Thanks to ALady and other forum folk I decided to check out Beach House. VERY glad I did. It's up there with the National and Deerhunter from last year for me. Every song is epic, but this one is just killing me.........
Beach House - silver soul (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIGvqxN--aY#)
So glad I came across The Fling bc they were an opener at a recent show. This album has flown near the top of my 2010 ranks after just a few listens.
Wanderingfoot - The Fling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0kD6_uU4Gs#)
Saw Interpol on Thursday, they pretty much rocked hard.

VALENTINES Aussie bubblegum Bon Scott AC/DC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ-45XG7n4k#)
Blowing my mind, but for reasons unrelated to the song itself.

thanks so much for posting this video of the fling.... i listened to that song and then a bunch others on youtube.... they are awesome
Abba Zaba - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUE_OSxeUPI#)
Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger (live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EU_12ZKLZck#ws)
Please, remember me
Happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin
A time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range,
A piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention
And
Please, remember me
Fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then
They went on to say
That the pearly gates
Have such eloquent graffiti
Like 'We'll meet again'
And 'Fuck the man'
And 'Tell my mother not to worry'
And angels with their great
Handshakes
But always done in such a hurry
And
Please, remember me
At Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white
By midnight
We'd forgotten one another
And when the morning came
I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world
And then returned
And now you're lit up by the city
And
Please, remember me
Mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower call
Then pass us by
But much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour
Gleem and resonate
Just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like 'Lost and Found' and 'Don't Look Down'
And 'Someone Save Temptation'
And
Please, remember me
As in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees
And fast asleep
Aside the lions and the ladies
That call you what you like
And even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see
A trapeze
Swinger as high as any savior
And
Please, remember me
My misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain
And chasing trains
The colored birds above there running
In circles round the well
To where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter's
So bright on cinder gray
In spray paint
'Who the hell can see forever?'
And
Please, remember me
Seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hands between your knees
You turn from me
And said 'The trapeze act was wonderful
But never meant to last'
The clown's that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs
The parking lot
It had an element of danger
And
Please, remember me
Finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear
But if i make
The pearly gates
I'll do my best to make a drawing
Of G-d and Lucifer
A boy and girl
An angel kissin on a sinner
A monkey and a man
A marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swinger
Na-na
Na-na-na
Na-na
Na-na...
thanks sweatboard...... great song
On a real Church binge at the moment. For anyone that love guitar driven pop/rock with a dash of psych check this clip below out. I can't get enough of it. Then go buy a greatest hits and realise they are one of the greatest bands to completely fall through the cracks. Apart from Under The Milky Way they're pretty much unheard of. Even in Australia they have pretty much gone unnoticed for the last 20 years...
This is Tantalized from their performance after being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame with a 60 piece orchestra. Fucking phenomenal...

SB, I fucking love the Trapeze Swinger as well.

Agreed, of course, but that was at least like 10 years ago. I think he mightve had an album a year or 2 after that, but that was it. That song with Everlast was actually decent as well. All I remember is being like 16 and my boy's sister drove us to the show that tour and we got hammered with them and his parents (his mom was a riot). Show was ok, but he closed with like Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Jingo, Soul Sacrifice, and Evil Ways, IIRC (sadly, no Fried Neckbones). Crowd blew up.
Not an edit but: Checked on things, he actually released 3 albums after Supernatural, all went Top 5, including 1 from last year. Can't say I ever remember hearing about the other 2 (nor am I interested). Wiki also says Supernatural has gone 15X platinum. At least the guy made some kind of good call. (Off topic: dont #1 albums these days only sell like maybe 1mill first week and huge album go like 4-5X platinum?! Crazy. More downloaders than youd think I guess).

I know it had been awhile since Supernatural but it seemed like he didn't do anything since then, I didn't know about the 2 albums either. It's good he was able to make some money and live comfortably, but I don't really have respect for those songs.
Taylor Hollingsworth "Westfalia" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RotCZarK2Ik#ws)
Used to play in the Mystic Valley Band with Oberst, and I just saw him play his own incredible stuff the other night. None of his albums are really related to one another, but they're all pretty cool "Folk Art Rock n Roll Punk Blues." Life With a Slow Ear is my favorite.

Another excellent song from Jonathan Wilson:
IATP FLIGHTS Jonathan Wilson - Desert Raven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVmGXs5U6l0#)
4/5 in Mojo, 8/10 in NME
"It's never fair to prejudge a singer-songwriters by their titles, but with Jonathan Wilson's astonishing debut, full of tracks called things like
'Ballad Of The Pines' and 'Canyon In The Rain', the fact he's a Laurel Canyon-leaning, old-guard LA acoustician is blindingly obvious. What you don't get from the names, though, is quite how well he pulls off his CSNY, James Taylor and Matthews' Southern Comfort-inspired grooves, chucking in healthy shakes of Pink Floyd, Elliott Smith and sunset psychedelia to create some of the most luxurious folk of the year. As California dreamin' goes, this is almost as good as heading for the hills, reaching for a hand-tooled native American bong and calling yourself Moon Unit."

I saw Derek a year before this joining the Allmans for a few songs including "Southbound". Warren beamed from ear to ear.
Trucks was a heavy touring pro well before he was a teenager.

Yes, and the song clip is a still from the Singles album cover. The biggest single from that album was Westerberg's "Dyslexic Heart". His two songs ruled that album and made it one of the best soundtracks of the '90s. Also, these songs were significant because they are Westerberg's first solo material after the breakup of the Replacements. Also, Paul did the score for the film too.

Down By The Water - The Decemberists (HQ + Lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrLx-duQWE0#)
There's a few Dulli lovers around these parts. The Whigs never got big, but don't tell Mr. Dulli that. One of my top 5 shows ever - Congregation era Whigs at a small bottle club in Pensacola. I guess this song sat around for years before it ended up on Gentlemen - doesn't sound right with Dulli singing and I guess this is the only live recording with Marcy Mays singing. She kills it.

ya know, this is really the best part about music festivals to me. the legends are there that I see just because they're legends. artists i usually wouldnt see at their own show, then they end up being the best concerts ever. Paul Simon at Hangout, Stevie Wonder at Bonnaroo. Jay-Z at Bonnaroo, Toots and the Maytals at Wakarusa.

I'm an idiot for not getting into these guys in the '90s (and following decade). But thanks to Boardwalk Empire, I've become a fast-fan. There is no question that Antone is a giant raging douchbag. However, I've seen him perform flawlessly and sound incredible and I've seen him be that Antone on stage and start a fight with the club owner. It's a not miss experience.

Thank God For Mental Illness, Give It Back, and Strung Out In Heaven are excellent albums also.
Mark my words: I'll own them all soon enough.
And watch Dig!. It's a fascinating documentary.
that movie turned me off on this band, no desires to get into them after seeing how big of an asshole the singer was.
There is no question that Antone is a giant raging douchbag. However, I've seen him perform flawlessly and sound incredible and I've seen him be that Antone on stage and start a fight with the club owner. It's a not miss experience.
Once you start delving into the personalities and biographies of most of the lead singers in music, I'll wager a healthy number are major assholes. Let the music do the talking. By comparison, how many actors do we admire off-screen? For me, not many and I don't care for the most part.

Huge Deftones fan and when I heard frontman Chino was teaming up with his buddy Shaun Lopez from Far, I was stoked to hear this side project. Now that they have released the second EP, I think it is even better than the first one they released last August. Loving the sound, really great when you listen to it on headphones.

Out of here yesterday
Dove cuesto, mi dolce?
Your driver called, it's time to go
Your driver's waiting for you
And I caught a fever, a holy fire
'Til I was crawling on the ceiling
Come out of your hole
I know you know
You know I know
I wanna go
Such a pretty thing, I've never seen
Someone so perfectly deceive
I loved her smile
And her beguiling way with me
She smelled exciting, I wanted some
Your drivers' gone
Like everybody
And that's why I need ya to catch on fire
I want you to burn me 'til I feel it
I know you know which way to go
I wantcha to show me, so I can steal it
Where should we go? Where should we go?
I know you know that I'm gonna need it
I know you know which way to go
I know you know, I wanna go

Yes, this is much better than I thought it would be. The original sounds like it was written by a man from a female perspective. Kim actually pulls it off, it seems like she actually wrote it from her perspective as a female....... instead of just covering a song written by a male, from a female perspective.
If that makes sense. If not, Oh well, Whatever, Nevermind.

I mean, who produced this shit? The sound is out of this ass galaxy.
What I'm trying to say here...
if your brain was connected to this music, and then your brain was also connected to your ass. Then this music would shoot straight through your brain, come out of your ass, and explode into a giant black ass hole. Fact!
Been meaning to check out Lower Dens, thanks for the reminder...
Today while I was writing, Menomena's Ghostship came up on the big playlist I've dedicated to the novel I'm working on. I've known this song for a long while but listening to it with headphones blew me away all over again.
I absolutely love the way they build their songs on loops, and I love this song's bass, whispery vocal harmonies and eerie piano subtlety. The whistling teakettle puts it over the top. I'm still bummed that they split up.

Love the Bmore love with Wye Oak and Beach House at Forecastle. Now just add da Bizniss. Wye Oak are a remarkably powerful live duo. Jen Wasner is a commanding presence and though that video gives him no love, Andy Stack is an extraordinary simultaneous multi-instrumentalist. Definitely recommend their live show if their music interests you in the slightest.

Thanks Ruckus! Yeah, I just did a little reading about them and it mentioned Stack doing the drums with his right hand and foot, and the keyboards with his left? Whoa, that's talent. I was surprised that it was just a duo from listening. Good stuff, good stuff! I am just listening for the first time, and I'm in. I enjoy her voice.

Unapologetically borrowing from the guitar melodies and tone of the Byrds with a dash of the Dead along with distant lazy vocals somewhat reminiscent of a quieter Jesus and Mary Chain. That song is great. The whole album is lyrically great. The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apt. Is my favorite in the lyric category.

I legit lol'd when I heard these lyrics:
Oh, I just love the kind of woman who can walk over a man
I mean like a god damn marching band
She says, like literally, music is the air she breathes
And the malaprops make me want to fucking scream
I wonder if she even knows what that word means
Well, it's literally not that
