$27 CAD. The price for the highest quality mp3 version of the latest Red Rocks show.
And worth it just for that recording of Phone Went West alone.
I have never listened to a live version of that song online, and hardly remember it from Echo Beach in 2012 since I was just getting into the band at that time. But, I'll be damned; this version of Phone Went West is one of the best MMJ recordings I have ever heard. It takes the song to a whole new level and no track on this album even comes close (although I'm a fan of combining Steam and Only Memories).
5:55 into the song gets me every time. It just throws me in a trance I can't get out of no matter where I am.
Not to mention, it's incredible how Jim James has a whole new sound in songs like Spring and Tropics, then on a dime can sound like the 22-year-old from 2001 all over again.
I don't know if I can ever choose to listen to the studio version over this ever again.

Thoughts? What's your favourite version of this song?
i totally agree. people didnt love the whole Steam/Memories thing, and i get why (not messing with a masterpiece), but i absolutely couldnt get enough of the second half of steams -> phone. that jam with the sax and jim teasing PWW until it finally came in was rediculous
PWW RR 2012>PWW RR 2015
(I wasn't at either, just my .02)

$27 for MP3? Say it ain't so...
I'm afraid to ask how much the HD-FLAC is in CAD.

Oh damn, that's what I got haha I'm not tech-saavy. I thought HD-FLAC was still considered an "mp3". Just meant to say I got it digitally lol

That's reassuring...I've heard the Canadian dollar has taken a hit lately, but I didn't think it was that bad! lol
Steam - Memories - Steam - Phone is probably my favorite run I've ever heard.
I'm going to have to agree that steamy memories went west is one of the best things I've heard the boys do! I probably listen to that whole sequence once a day. Has MMJ ever played phone went west like that before??

This indeed, is my jam. I have some friends who are into a lot of the same bands as me, but for some reason they never dug MMJ. After I played this for them (one drug induced night), they immediately bought tickets to both nights in Austin.
i'll pass on those Bob Marley covers. Give me something that's not on Legend and I'd be ok with it.

In most other settings, I would agree. But with the vibe of the playa and the flow of the sets, it was perfection!

Agree 1000%!
I prefer the Red Rocks 2012 but that one a month ago was BLISS
Steam>Only Memories>Steam>Phone remains my favorite 25 minutes in music I think
The PWW at the Beacon was other wordly and remains the best version of it I've ever seen or heard. RR was great too but not Beacon great,IMO.
RR2012 WAS DEFINITIVE ;) IMHO
it doesn't get any better than this right here.

I think this Beacon version would be my favorite also if we could get a soundboard recording of it. Don't get me wrong, this guys phone video and audio isn't bad but man if we had this in the sound quality of Red Rocks 2012. :cheesy:
I want those Beacon recordings!!!!

No question, a soundboard recording of this would be great to have. Fingers crossed we get it and the rest of the four shows as well.

I still like the RR2012 vibe and execution and tempo more but still that Beacon version is the best Phone I've heard (along with RR2015) since 2012.

Port Chester is right up there among my favorites too, as is the Philly Mann Center one in 11.

Phone is my jam, I've seen a lot of Phones but this is the Phone that sent me on a cloud behind a rainbow with a Unicorn flying by... I can never get enough of this Phone! Eric M rocking out during the Phone and Tom smiling in recognition of our rock out, definitely adds to the power of the Phone :)
And I will concur on my live Phones- Capital and Mann '11 were also stellar! Wiltern Phone rocked my socks off too!
My two cents on the Phones from a forum member who occasionally chimes in (love this forum for obvious reasons, jacket fans are the coolest people on the planet). Anyway, I've been listening to the Beacon Phone Went West '15 version these last couple of days to see if it could top my favorite version: the Red Rocks 2012 version, which I hold atop the pedestal. I must say I still lean towards the Rocks version for two main reasons. 1. Bo's keyboard work around the 4:30 mark almost induces bad ass man tears every time I hear it--it's hauntingly beautiful indeed....and 2. I feel like Jim absolutely nails the vocals during the climax. That last "They'll be a Knock at wohhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhh" = goosebumps ery time. I don't know I think it was definitely one of those moments when all 5 bandmates were channeling some sort of higher power that they often talk about.
But that Beacon Phone guitar work by JJ at the 7 minute mark is divine. I'd like to add that in to the RR Phone '12 version to make the ultimate Phone Went West. And perhaps figure out a way to add in the old Johnny Quaid hardcore outtro circa 2003 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn0GsF2MGAc ). Man, I guess I'm jonesin for some live jacket, looking forward to some good times this summer.

Amen! Post more!
Here's the tail end of live Phone circa 2003, from the last few minutes of the It Still Moves EPK (Electronic Press Kit). It fuckin' rocks!
Starts at 7:47.
wow - hardly recognizable honestly. PWW evolution really took place 2011-2012 to what it is today
That is amazing, I've seen this before, but its been a long time. Makes me a little sad to be 3 years late to the party as I would of loved seeing this lineup of jacket perform. Not knocking Bo and Carl at all, but look at all that young, raw, energy its awesome.
