Half way through the year, seems like a good time for this thread...
Strand of Oaks - Hard Love
Hurray For the Riff Raff - The Navigator
Craig Finn - We All Want the Same Things
...A lot I still need to listen to. Help Me Out!

The Drums
Beach Fossils
Kacey Johansing
Fazerdaze
Methyl Ethel
Her's
Bedouine's self titled debut is a real stunner. Definitely going to be on my top 10
The Lees of Memory put the best album of the year out today.
All other albums should step aside and bow their heads in reverence to its greatness.
Album has 24 tracks and costs $10 digitally. If you are a fan of rock music, this is a no-brainer.

Kevin Morby - City Music. Pretty decent but not quite on the level of Singing Saw.
The more I listen to John Moreland Big Bad Luv, the more I think this is the best album of the year!!!
I'll also add the new CRB to my shortlist.

I keep hearing about it and waiting to see it but it still hasn't been released yet -- it's due on Sept. 8.
never heard of him. will have to investigate.
It leaked the other day. Definitely check out his back catalog. One of my favorite artists of the last decade or so.
Also
Futurebirds- Portico II (ep)
Turnover- Good Nature
I think WOD can solidly be added to the best of 2017 list...
War on Drugs - Deeper Understanding
Turnover - Good Nature
Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface
Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds from Another Planet
Chastity Belt - I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone
Nick Hakim- Green Twins

Brand New - Science Fiction
Neil Young - Hitchhiker
Lees of Memory - Blinding White of Nothing at All
Manchester Orchestra - Black Mike to the Surface

The Districts - Popular Manipulations is the best mid-2000s indie rock to come out of 2017 and I'm all over it. Definitely check it out. If Before I Wake, the first track, is insanely catchy. Thunderous drums, flying guitars, awesome vocals. Don't miss out on them
Wow...just joined the forum..been a Jacket fan forever, read the forum all the time and finally took the plunge...
Black Pistol Fire (who I do not believe have ever been mentioned in this forum) releasing new album at end of this month called Deadbeat Graffiti...and although i cannot guarantee it will be on my list of top albums of 2017 I would be surprised if it was not. Recently discovered this band and have been plowing through their back catalog. Highly recommend these guys...check them out.

Welcome aboard. I seen them on KEXP a few years back, not bad at all. If I recall it was just two guys.
I'm very excited to hear the new Josh Ritter album. It comes out next week and is currently streaming on NPR. Hoping to hear it this afternoon.
I'm gonna need a few more listens of the new Ritter. A little different.
Thanks for the welcome... I must say that I have received so many great musical recommendations on this forum that I feel indebted to those that take the time to post here. It's such a magical thing to seek out and find other fantastic music that becomes a part of and enhances my life in so many ways. Beng a veteran Jacket fan and knowing the good vibes and kindness that emanates from you all not only from this forum but also from personal interactions at many shows (my wife and I attended the previous two One Big Holidays just to mention a few) I can't say thank you enough. Even though I never posted here before I always felt like I belonged. Sharing good music is akin to giving a great gift. Many of all your recommendations have put a big smile on my face. I know it sounds sappy but it's how I feel.
Anyway yes... LBSUNFLWR ... Just two guys in the band... But man they rock. Like much if the best music they take a few listens... Just spend a little time with them and they will grow on you .
Ok... I guess that's all... Sorry about the long post... Just had to say something to reflect my gratitude.

Welcome indeed. And thanks for the tip. I just listened to a few songs..... a little Black Keys/White Stripes type of sound, which isn't my favorite. But I also have been turned on to so much good music from this forum, and I trust MMJ fans so I'll give a few more listens.
If you like their sound.......which seems like fuzzy, rocking guitars more so than the singer songwriter alt country stuff, definitely check out Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. Awful band name, but awesome music (especially High Visceral Part 1).
Despite new albums by some of my all-time favorites this year: Ryan Adams, Jason Isbell, Chris Robinson, etc... I really think my top album this year will be John Moreland. He's just so good.

me too, for sure. I heard a couple of beauties in there though. A lot of his songs are growers.
After only one listen... Jessica Lee Mayfield - Sorry is Gone
Has anyone heard the Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett album yet?? I haven't had a chance to listen
I haven't played it yet either, but I will. ^^
The new CRB is really great. been listening to it all week and it will definitely be up in my top 3.
War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
Fleet Foxes - Crack Up
Barr Brothers - Queens of the Breakers
Queens of the Stone Age - Villains

also surprised based on the Isbell and Moreland tracks that no Tyler Childers made the year end list.
there's a lot that I just never listened to this year. I have heard that name a few times but never heard him. I will look and see if I have his album and hopefully get around to playing it!
