just seeing fairly reliable outlets posting updates that the band has confirmed no US touring in 2018 - hoping I have an excuse to get over to Europe next year....
http://www.jambands.com/news/2017/11/13/my-morning-jacket-say-new-year-s-run-will-be-final-u-s-tour-dates-until-2019/
didn't see that coming.

been some murmurs from "people who know a guy who knows a girl"-type stuff on the Facebook pages. Hopefully this all just part of "proper band maintenance" and that they are able to get in the studio time they'd like to make an epic album.
time to start saving for OBH5 in 2020 for my 40th blowout...
Wow... this caught me off guard.
The anticipation for NYE builds and very curious about their plans for 2019.
This sounds like a new Jim solo album in 2019, outside of Tribute To 2.
I'm taking this news as "no 2018 dates other than OBH", not "2018 Euro tour". The wording was probably used to 1) sell some more tickets to Denver and 2) ensure people that OBH ain't in danger.
This is actually kinda good news in my mind. They'll have a whole year to work on other projects and most importantly, record and mix that new album. 2019 tour could be huge.
I'm reading this very carefully - it says no US tour in 2018 (not 2019), so they may hit select fests or tour in Europe next year.
Even if this is a full year break, then I agree that they should have time to get to that elusive Album and go back on the road hard in 2019 (with OBH5 in early '19 - I'm assuming 3 year contract as will HRHRM)
All good, but this harkens back to the 2013 "starve" - the Americanarama 10 song sets were brutally short - it's gonna be rough going 9-12 months with no live Jacket
honestly this is much better than what i was hearing from some folks directly in the know. chatter around the ville was more of an "extended break/possible break-up" after OBH.

That is some depressing chatter. So yeah, this is clearly better than that.
I was not expecting this type of announcement at all. The way I read this is that there will be a US tour in 2019, and other continents are not ruled out for 2018.
I too would love an excuse to get to Europe..... there are already strong rumors of Pearl Jam in Europe June/July, and if MMJ happens to be there, then I'll be looking for both bands and you too millerjustin.

It's a date APR!!
Just glad to have the 3 NYE shows and OBH4 nailed down. It's going to be a long dry spell to see them as MMJ after that.
Drag...
Well, shit it looks like I should have gone to NYE and/or OBH after all.

still can
Don't want to gossip but I would be shocked at a possible hiatus/breakup!!! I mean, this is one.of the most incestuous bands in the business. And I really mean that in the best possible context. They all seem really engaged in the band and participaing in each other's various side projects.
DONT YOU EVER TURN IT OFF!!!
Does this mean we'll get another large Jim tour in 2018? Could we possibly see some new Monsters of Folk????? I would LOVE another album from that group
I'll tell you what it means...
I'm going to Colorado next month!

Now that's the best news in this thread!
Looking forward to seeing ya John.
Looks like a similar blueprint to 2014, gearing up for a big 2015. Hoping this just means a massive 2019!

hell yes! great news, Yac!
Shit, y'all are depressing me. Glad I'm going to OBH at least.
This was some less than optimal news to wake up to. Selfishly hoping the reason behind this is a new album, but nothing would surprise me. Hope all is well in Jacket land.

hell yeah!
Kind of sucks but on the same note maybe a good thing.
Folks around here have been down on their "stale" setlists recently, hopefully this year off gives them time to get in the studio and mix things up a bit.
i'll definitely miss them next year though.
I am upset that the band can't let us fans know this news directly. They are a band that doesn't really mingle with their fans.
I hope after this time off they can interact with their fans more.
Honestly I don't mind if they take next year off. I think Jack White will be touring and that will preoccupy me with MMJ off.

I've never interacted with anyone in the band other than Bo & Tom on Twitter (RIP @sometomguy), but I know many people who have met & talked to the guys, even seen pics of Jim doing singalongs at Newport after parties with fans. Not sure if you have a higher expectation for them to "mingle" but I think it's pretty rad that they even interact as much they seem to based on the pics I've seen on FB or here.

I've met and spoken to them all at various shows (theirs and others) - they are totally approachable and quite honestly the most open book and humble band I've ever interacted with.
I am not talking about in person as I have talked to all of them in person. I am talking about the band being more interactive with their fans overall. I compare it to what Umphrey's does with their fans. They do livestreams, some for free. Always active on socials. Has ton of events. Tons of merch.
Just looking for more.

comparing is natural & we all do it, but not always fair to those being compared. If you're looking for MMJ to be more like UM in that way, you're probably going to continue to be disappointed and that's not the band's fault.
MMJ is an open book compared to Pearl Jam!
Yeah its 2017. I expect pretty much full on access to all band members. I think they should periscope everything. They also need to do a youtube show (and a podcast), and I don't mean daily--just two to four times a week. Really not a lot to aks.

lol - they should all send you clips of them taking a dump every Tuesday morning, farting on Thursdays, and waiting in line for coffee on Saturday mornings. (well, maybe the pizza shop with Tommy)
Haha, the dump cam would be great for this band and its "brand".
I mean no offense with the exaggerations but one thing I like about certain bands/artists is elusiveness or mysteriousness. Led Zeppelin was my favorite band growing up and I never knew much about them besides their music. I think this added to their mystique, their power, etc.

Jim James agrees 100% with you and has said as such in multiple interviews. Part of why they are the way they are and I dig it. True rock star mystique that is missing from almost all modern artists as we get to know everything about them

The Zep mystique was real in the 70's. Brilliant marketing. Jimmy page set out to intentionally make the biggest band in the world, and he micromanaged every aspect of it, to brilliant success.

so true and i love the hell outta Zepp. the Jacket have kept that mystery going, theyve opened the door ajar but thats it
I would rather they focus on making and playing great music than to interact with me. Online exchanges between celebs and fans are mostly superficial and meaningless.
