VIP is tempting as it's only about $150 for all the extras.  It looks like I'll be going solo to this show so the VIP might be a little awkward just hanging out by myself.

I think I am doing VIP GA alone. I want the early entry more than anything.

Weird experience. I too just saw ADA tickets and it said "none available," so I thought the whole thing had sold out, but then I was able to enter my code (which I pasted, because I forgot you had to type it in, and it still worked), and then everything opened up. But it was still weird, because my captcha was glitchy and fragmented, and I had to click continue on a separate dialog box even after selecting all the photos with a car in them. Luckily all's well that ends well, and I'll be boogyin' +3 on the floor!

over the last few months, i've been doing my best Eeyore impression over the future of the band and soured a bit as I really kinda stopped listening to Jacket (listened to the solo stuff of course but lil to no Jacket). But, man, this show and all the friends I've heard from that are going to travel to this has put a spring in my step so to speak and has got me back with the Jacket Fever.

We're going back to the place that hosted 3 of the most storied shows in the band's history and we're almost certainly going to hear songs performed that may NEVER be performed again. How cool is that?

Never been myself but I just looked at the train schedule from Port Chester to Grand Central and trains leave at 10:11, 10:41, 11:12, and 12:11.  The show is supposed to start at 8:00 and would be over at 10:00-10:30 I would guess.  The train station appears to be literally next door to the theater so getting back into the city shouldn't be much of an issue.

Yeah, didn't get tickets. Tried right at noon, then non-stop through 1:30pm, and on-and-off since. Working towards 4 GA as there's 4 of us going to FH. Strange little ticket site, it would show floor as an option, enter 4, no message, try again, floor not showing as an option, then it would pop up again.

Not stressing too much as it was going to be a 50/50 proposition anyway due to schedules and travel from DC and Vermont.

I've been many times. Awesome venue. Pete Shapiro runs a great great place.

The train to GC is the way to do it for sure. Runs regularly before and after the show and if you stay in the city it's super easy.

My favorite local place is Coals pizza which is walking distance. I hit it every time. So awesome. Get the duck bacon and Brussel sprouts.

Profit was the wrong word to use there. Get my money back and their fee from both buying and reselling. Is what I meant.

I was just so happy at the time of posting I didn't think my words out. It was a stressful day.

I have never even considered Stubhub for tickets until I didn't get this one. Which was after I bought a ticket to the other show just to get in the presale to have it not work out.

If it doesn't resell I am going to offer it to a friend at a substantial loss anyway.

The Cap is the best. Security getting in is a bit handsy and they are super strict about puffing even a vape inside so know that going in. Plenty of hotels within 10 min. I stayed at the Hilton Westchester last time I was there which worked out great. The Cap obviously has a storied history, especially with the Dead. Here's a great article which highlights that and the unique connection with the local fire station. The Mexican spot mentioned is a decent pre-show option as well. Can't make this one but will be at Forest Hills. Enjoy!

As mentioned the train is right there. Definitely the way to go up there from Manhattan. I usually stop here at the train station to get a beer or two and a pretzel for the ride: https://www.beertable.com. There's a ton of Mexican places near the venue, I haven't researched them to see which is "the best" but the 2 or 3 Ive been to were all solid.  Coals is indeed a good spot as mentioned, it's not pizza slices, rather a thin grilled pie. Saltaire is good if you're in the mood for seafood shack type stuff and good cocktails, a little on the higher end side but I e always enjoyed myself at the bar pre concert. Bar taco is also good, it gets pretty busy but they have outdoor space which is always a bonus.

I'm sure mmj is done before last train departs but a local cab will run between 80-100 back to Manhattan if I remember correctly, Uber probably a little more. The fun part about the cap is the bar downstairs stays open so it's not like a typical venue where you're shuffled out and you can't enjoy a wind down drink or two post show.

There is no way.  I was ready the second it hit 12pm EST and it said nothing available except $250 VIP.  This upselling for VIP and blood bath for tickets is getting really old.

yea, I can't fault them for maximizing their income on the VIP but tying the presale to another show seemed like a new wrinkle that I am not sure how to feel about.

This was going to be a hard ticket no matter what - smaller venue with a one-off type performance

Man, I don't need a copy of an album I already have preordered or a BBQ sandwich.  We just want tickets to the show, and it seems like the last year or two, so many tickets get held for these stupid upsale events.

I was at a work conference and wasn't able to use my code last week.  I guess we will be spending 2x on StubHub.

Ill also echo the sentiment above about security there when it comes to puffing/vaping etc. the security guys are militant in looking for smokers. They work in teams spying from the balcony on the floor, spotters, flashlights,  etc, it's quite annoying. The guy Shapiro that runs it tries to present this laid back music hippy persona but he has the place a semi police state.

I rolled solo for final night of Phils Lesh's 79th B-day bash.  Flew in from Bham, AL.

I had never been to the Capitol before. Incredible venue and I'm sure you'll be surrounded by super nice super fans. Lots of cool little places to eat and drink. You can basically stay wherever you want downtown since the venue is a short block away from the station. For reference, it's about a 35-40 minute ride to Times Square by train.  We'll take good care of you Dex! :-)

Desperately looking for 4 tickets to Port Chester.  Was there for all 3 nights in 2012 and am travelling from Dublin, Ireland to try and catch lightning in a bottle one more time.  I bought tickets on AXS for the Forest Hill show and then the code wasn't working on the presale so got shut out there and then again for general onsale.  Help would be much appreciated.

Also, first time back on the boards in a while.  Nice to be back : )

really wish the band didn't release tickets like this...really bums me out from the band itself to be honest, like come on ...give EVERYONE a chance to get a ticket. I get that EVERYONE won't be able to go, it isn't feasible numbers wise, I get that, but maaaan is it tailored to people who have more than enough money on hand at a moment's notice.

You can't pin that on the band.  Life is tailored to people who have more than enough money on hand at a moment's notice.

Exactly why our society needs to change. I fucked myself out of tickets though and I thank everyone for the offers, it just sucks cause NOW I have the money hahaha wish the money had been there when they were released. Just a bitter Jacket vet.

i'm going to save every penny this way comes just in case. If I can't make it, I can't, but I'm going to stay open to every opportunity.
There were some incredibly amazing and nice people on here who offered me tickets earlier: Rkwedge, sillybooby, a few others who were just so goddamn nice that I didn't wanna string them along and waste their time (and i'm sure i did already).
I'm Just so glad this band is back, the Tennessee Fire is getting the reissue it always deserved and this band will be cranking out rarities on all four of these shows (or is it just 3???).

I love all of you guys.

So I've been reading about how militant and tight the security is at the Cap Theatre and I've never been to an MMJ show where I wasn't able to partake.  It seems like toking up in the GA crowd will be very risky, so do you folks have any suggestions other than just don't do it?  What about the smoking area outside that I've heard about?  Is it possible to pull it off without being harassed in the smoking area?

idk, can you get a vape pen where you're at? that's my plan but then it will likely just be outside bc its not big enough GA area to get lost in the crowd

Usually for these inside theater shows my group will have a big sesh somewhere outside before hand and get nice an ripped. One of us will jock a Vape pen and kinda just sneak hits when you can(bathrooms, waiting in beer line ect). Def not worth lighting one up inside and getting tossed.

At Forrest hills last time we were in GA and had no issues sparking many a J.

Yeah I'm not too worried about Forest Hills since it's outdoors, but the Cap Theatre will be tough too pull off I think.  This would be a good show for edible and a vape, but I don't have access.

The Cap is tough as far as that goes and on the 3-night end of year run they did there, we had a forum member almost get tossed for lighting up. We all thought he was definitely on his way out but fortunately he managed to stay.

Probably one of those had to be there things but for those of us who were, the whole thing was funny as hell and made even better by him not getting tossed out.

I received my VIP pair about a week and a half ago. The postmark was July 15, fyi.

For anyone who needs a pair for the Cap, I have two in the balcony, bought before I grabbed the VIP pair.  Wanted to get friends to go as part of my recent evangelical MMJ mission, but they can't make it due to work or other silly excuses.  Face without the fees, PM if interested.

First post, but have been reading the forum for a couple years. Appreciate the info, insights and most of all the passion.  Relatively late to the game (July 2015 first show, didn't know a single song and walked out stunned). Five more shows since.  In for all four of these. Spent many dollars at Amoeba Records (CA folks know that place!) digging out the secondary releases.

Easily in my top five ever. Gonna be top 1 when they hit the stage Friday at RR.

There is no smoking of any sort inside of the building.  If you get caught they will remove you from the show, take what you have and let you back in a song or two later.  There is a very nice court yard open t/o the show and you can do almost anything there.  If you have an oil pen then you can do that inside to a certain degree.  You need to be super stealth.  Otherwise I wouldn't risk missing a moment.  Just mosey outside for 3 minutes.  A pull isn't worth missing two songs!

I also have a theory: if Jim did a live stream of the solo show from the Cap, the Flaming Lips just did one with the Claypool Lennon Delirium for the Relix Channel,  my question is: will the band live stream the Cap show??? And if they do, will i need adult diapers to get through the moment?

Oh yes. Oh god yes.

The demo version appearing on TTF 20 anniversary makes me feel like it is possible. If it is played I bet only a handful of people will recognize it.

I wish I was going to Friday. The Terminal Five TTF show is still a favorite MMJ show for me.

been looking at some setlists and checking out some shows from 99-00 to see other "songs from that era" could be in the mix and I had never heard them tuning and warming up with a "cover" of White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.  It sounds pretty great, some funny Jim commentary about having some red KoolAid after the show "if you know what I mean"

https://relisten.net/mmj/2000/01/29/tuning-guitars-white-rabbit-jefferson-airplane?source=60142

Covers from that era definitely incl Tyrone and Rocket Man. I'm totally ok with either of those tomorrow. Suspicious Minds would kill too.

I wonder how much from At Dawn we will get...

Quote from: parkervb on Aug 08, 2019, 10:54 AMbeen looking at some setlists and checking out some shows from 99-00 to see other "songs from that era" could be in the mix and I had never heard them tuning and warming up with a "cover" of White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.

Nailed it!

What a treat that was last night. To be able to get that and then probably a hits fest tonight back to back will be a great dose of mmj.

I thought they jammed and extended a lot of these songs tonight and the sound (where I was at least) was pretty awesome. I can't go through song by song because I lost track of each time a song got me "there", but it was a lot.

I wasn't at T5 but I did see this album at OBH and it was night and day I thought. OBH has SO much talking, I guess people were amped up in beach party mode and weren't expecting that, and I also don't remember them extending the songs as much/at all in the DR. Last night people were pretty dialed in, with about 1/10th the chatter. Also it was funny seeing the entire left half of the front row head banging (when appropriate) in unison, women too. Awesome. Not afraid to admit I was peeking at the track listing on the wall from time to time when I'd lose my place ha.

And then the encore was just a great cherry on top. What a perfect way to end the show and stay in the era. I left extremely satiated.

I liked Jim's comment about it being 20 years later, and trying to remember who you were back then and bring that part of these songs back, but also be true to yourself in the now. Got me thinking I was 22 and probably did more stupid than good things back then, but it's still the same person. Eh I'll stop now. He said it better than me.

While I always enjoy myself at that venue I just wish they weren't so hypocritical. They run with the hippy/dead vibe because it suits them financially but will go after someone like el chapo if they see them smoking a joint. Didn't see anyone smoking. (Smartly so, who wants to get kicked out of that show). Had to be extremely careful even with a pen.  Garcia's afterwards was the most crowded I've ever seen it after a show. Place was going off.

I didn't feel like waiting in a merch line but there was some pretty cool stuff to mark the occasion. Kinda bummed but my merch days are pretty much over anyway, but still woulda wanted something.

Congrats to all those that attended. What a treat. See you this eve!

Listening to the show this morning and it's a great recording. The recordist thanked Ryan Pickett so I'm assuming he was right at soundboard.

What an amazing show, so many great moments but They Ran was perfection. Jim's voice and Bo's keys. Wow. War Begun was on another level. Twilight. Holy Metal Jacket. Rocket Man was THE perfect encore opener.

Reiterate what dexter said about the crowd too! Made it even more special

Glad to see ya robb, APR, and the other familiar forum faces. Say hi tonight

I'll echo the other fellas' sentiments: that was a special performance. I was at T5 and OBH and this was pretty easily the best I've seen them do TTF. Carl was the MVP of the night for me - dude had nothing to do with writing any of these songs but he was throwing lightning bolts all night long. For my money he's never been better.

Sadly my crowd experience was not the same. dexter - I wish I was wherever you were brother because the crowd around me near the back of the floor was TERRIBLE. Felt like I was surrounded by dozens of chatty Cathys all night long. I can't fathom why anyone would buy a ticket to THIS show and then spend the whole night flapping their yapper. That was a bummer. Regardless, the boys on the stage more than made up for it. Glad I was there.

Sorry to read tourist , that's a bummer. We were in the loge and was reasonably quiet up there. I don't get the full on drunk convos during something like this.  A few quiet words here or there with a neighbor is fine, but OBH itnwas like people weren't even at a concert.

this absolutely angers me. how the fuck could you talk over THIS album? absolutely worst album to talk over. The music is quiet and when it explodes you've earned it from the quiet moments and they play off each other with ultra-fantastic dynamics that were obvious even when that album came out but are only better NOW. AND YOU TALK OVER A 10 MINUTE TWILIGHT? GET OUT!!!
Sorry Tourist!

Also: what I love is how every time they put Twilight into their setlist now it says TWILIGHT SERIES. you know why? because they made a setlist for the first show I ever saw them do, 8/2/2012 called the TwilightConcert Series. Why the fuck else would it keep saying that, every year i've seen it in a setlist it says Twilight Series. Very bizarre but probably an auto correct issue but one they've kept leaving.

Love the ode to my first show.
Shit I need more. Devastated to miss these shows.
Whoever was talking at this show and was in the same room while they played Tonite I want 2 and Weeks go by Like Days needs to be crucified
LONG IS THE ROAD WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD HOW LONG DOES ONE MAN WAIT FOR WEEKS GO BY LIKE DAYS?
I guess it's 9 years (played it in 2001, then played it in 2010, played it again in 2019)

Thanks parker for posting that audio.  It sounds excellent!

I loved that show so much.  Hearing some of those songs in that environment was special.  The crowd was great and full of die hards as tons of people were singing the lyrics to what many would consider obscure songs.

A big part of wanting to go in early was increasing the odds of being surrounded by non-talkers.  I didn't hear much chatter at all.  Except for a little and too loud conversation during By My Car...... and of course it was the guy who, an hour before the show started, asked everyone around to be quiet during the night.  I seconded his request and jokingly told him we were in a no-talking section.

Weeks Go By was a really awesome surprise.  Twilight was off the charts rocking metal.  And the jam at the end of The Dark was a nice bonus.  It can't get much better than War Begun and Picture of You back to back though.  Even though we've heard those before, I can hear those at every show and be content.  The Beat was brilliant.

I don't think I have ever seen Bo smile as much during a show.  Carl was on fire all night as usual.  Jim talking to the crowd was great too.  He said his grandmother died within the last year and dedicated what was her favor song, Evelyn Is Not Real, to her.  I always think of my grandmother (who died years ago) during that song, as her name was Evelyn.

that was a special fucking dedication. Makes me think of every time they've played that song live. Lucky to have seen it my first show, along with a War Begun. But you fuckers at the Cap were so lucky. Weeks Go By Like Days...see ya every 9 years!

yea, I was very happy that the crowd was super respectful to Jim sharing some of the backstory on Above the Cadillac Studios and how much his Mermer (?) meant to him and to what has become the band that we all love so much.

I got to share this really special show with some really great friends, 2 of whom live a combined 10k miles away from me that I have known since the 8th grade (we're 40). Loads of memories made.

Just a quick line to tip the hat for a most special evening. A whirlwind 30 hour solo trip up from NC & I couldn't have had a better time if I tried to recreate that over again. Met many super friendly folks at the VIP celebration & in our section - a reminder that this fanbase is truly the best in the game. The CAP certainly runs a tight ship - but if the results are an experience like Friday thats totally worth the squeeze. The sound was as amazing as ive heard - the performance was tight as it could've been. Having had to bail on t5 & not having been to Mexico - this felt redemptive in a sense - at least hearing many of the fav's. Having been around for 15 plus - hearing 8 tunes for the first time was beyond a treat & nearly all I had heard before were likely best versions. Just a special special night. An all timer. See y'all down the road!

Patrick showed up at the FH bbq and I was still in the afterglow of that show and I thanked him and asked if it felt as special for tha band as those in attendance. He hesitated and said "it was tough, a lot of emotions." Sounded like good and bad and it makes you think. You know they're humans but onstage they're some other form.

Man, I looove the outro after 'Butch Cassidy.'  So special, the acoustic over the pedal steel.  Into a massive 'Hell'.  Will be one of my favorite Jacket live moments for a long time.

The jam on Old Sept. Blues is incredible. Jim's solos normally fall into pretty similar patterns overall but he really seemed to let loose on that one with some real gnarly stuff. + he seems to really love that flanger (I think? maybe its a phaser but they're pretty similar) pedal this run, I've never heard that be a part of his rig before but it was in there a lot this time around and was pretty cool in this jam.

Yes it IS a phaser!!! Ive heard it on many things this run too and mentioned that on the Facebook forum but nobody knew what I was talking about, he's definitely using one and you hear it clearly on Old September.

Man that was easily that song's greatest version but also one of the best moments of the night. You're absolutely right on Jim's soloing there going to another level. He just went for it and just like his crazy solo on "Melissa / Beautiful Ones", his riff on "Thank U Fa Lettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin", his vocals on "Older Guys" etc upon etc it's absolutely note for note perfection.

It's extremely interesting to hear Patrick say "yes and no". Could mean so many things. It could be Patrick riding or dying back there with violent diarrhea or the songs physically scared them or Jim was farting repeatedly with Patrick as the centrally-placed "benefactor"...all of these are leads
