**EDIT***
Updated 9-9-10. I wanted to add a few songs and replace a few songs with stuff I have found since I made this but I never got around to it. However since the links are dead, I re-uploaded them. Artwork is in the zip file. Tracks are all numbered and labeled.
So, a lot of new exciting stuff is going on these days with Evil Urges, new tour dates, etc, etc. so this just might get lost in the shuffle and that's OK. But I've been working on this for awhile, and I thought it could be a perfect distraction to help some of you get thru the waiting period until June 10th. It seems like a good point in time to wrap up the old and start a new collection!
I've found every available (that I know of) MMJ original song that was performed solo live (in or out of the studio) and tried to pick my favorite/best sounding version. 47 total tracks. It also follows basically the order at which the songs were released. If anyone knows of an original that is available solo and not represented here, please let me know! (I'm still waiting on the elusive Run Thru solo performance ;)) I think you all will enjoy this. I hope so.
Here they are, all of MMJ's top 40 hits of the seventies, eighties, nineties, zeroes and beyond! Timeless Classics such as.....

NOTE: If you decide to use the artwork, use the files in the downloads, not the ones attached to this post. Also, 90% of these tracks came from lossless flacs but I do not know how to create torrents so I had to zip them up as high quality mp3s to get them to fit.
YOU are a Bad MoFo! Thanks man! This looks like an awesome set to keep in my car!
Hey Dave, I started to download but I'd really like to get this losslessly... can I help you start up a torrent or get a copy from you and then torrent it?
thanks for the hard work!
Thanks man! This is very cool!
wow, how kind!
Merry Christmas! [smiley=dankk2.gif]
This is one hell of a comp! This should put up on DIME and bttree!! IMO. Thanks for your hard work on this. I can't wait to go through and see which performances you chose for each song.
DLing...
HOLY SHIT BALLS!!!!!!
The artwork is insanely amazing. This is so HOT!!!
Happy New Year. :-*
So these are all Jim solo performances, I gather. Too bad we didn't have the solo dondante in time. :(
Thanks again, Dave!

There is a solo Dondante and it's great! Listening to it right now. WOW! He must have added that as a secret track. Last one on disc 3.
Thanks again man!
hmm... you're right! What's that performance from, BH? it doesn't sound like the rud.
Holy Smokes BH - that looks fantastic. What a super thing to do! Why, it turns out you're not evil at all! Thanks mucho!

Wow! Thanks so much for compiling and sharing this!!!!
Holy crap, I forgot to put Dondante on the disc 3 artwork! Doh! I didn't intend for it to be a secret track but I guess it is now! Too late to fix, unless you guys want it, I can make a seperate download just for that one file. It's from Seattle, same show as Into the woods.
And Kory, yes, I would love to send you the lossless and have you host it!
Glad you all liked it!
:o This may manage to hold me over until June 10!
BH - your regular Mr. Rhino Records. 8-)
Thanks, this is awesome!
:o ;D
I've been wanting to make a Jim version of Z but this is even better. Thanks a whole lot!

dondante is THERE after knot comes loose. he just forgot to put it on the tracklist. ;) and it is a thing of beauty.
also really enjoying dancefloors.
Wow, thanks Dave...downloading them now. You asked me sometime ago if I ever needed anything to let you know. I'd say this is more than enough and I now owe you something...HA! Thanks again.
Darrin
There seems to be a lack of It Still Moves material here, at least in comparison to material from the other albums. Does he just not play those songs solo or have some of them just not been captured on tape?
QuoteThere seems to be a lack of It Still Moves material here, at least in comparison to material from the other albums. Does he just not play those songs solo or have some of them just not been captured on tape?
Right you are. I noticed the same thing. I'm sure it's because the big rockers don't translate very well to solo acoustic. OBH, Mahgeetah, Run Thru, Easy Morning Rebel.
Surprisingly though, I could never find a Just One Thing. And then Rolling Back, which they hardly ever did even as a band unfortunately.
One more thing I forgot to mention. I want it to be known that I used the concert poster from the Higher Ground in Vermont as a template for the bear/flying v . It was created by Dkvt (Dennis Kegler).
http://www.gigposters.com/designer/21104_Dkvt.html
I love this image and hopefully it is OK to use in this manner. If anyone thinks differently, do not hesitate to let me know, and I will make something different.
Check out this one by Dennis. Kind of looks like a moth or some kind of insect at first glance. Pretty cool stuff.....

By the Way, the following songs were also performed live solo, but I do not have any recordings of them.
Just One Thing 10-17-03 Waterloo Records Austin, TX
Come Closer 2-4-03 Upstairs At The Garage London, UK
How Could I Know This was performed at several of the MOF shows in Oct 04 but I couldn't find my copies.
And now, Wonderful the Way I Feel, which I will save for Disc 4 2008-2017. ;)
I decided I love the idea of the secret Dondante even though it was by mistake, so I will just leave it alone.

yeah, I've got all three. I guess I'll just add em up here tomorrow and people can do what they will with em.
Dylan, how about this, I think I can fit them all on disc three, which is about where they should go anyway. I will just re-do the back cover of disc three and give them track numbers (on the file names only) as follows so people know where to put them. What do you think?
0.5 Come Closer
4.5 Just One Thing
6.5 How Could I Know
Also, I am in the process of sending lossless to Kory, so can you either send him those if you have them, or upload them to me on sendspace or something so I can get them to him? If you only have mp3, that's fine, a few of mine are only mp3 as well.
Can someone tell me how long disc 3 is. I don't have them with me. I'm worried now that all three new track might not fit.
Here's the extras:

How Could I Know - don't really know the source on this one but it's a good one.
I also added the version of At Dawn from Waterloo because I think I prefer it, not trying to step on toes or nothing, just another extra goodie.
EDIT: they're all mp3. I keep few lossless files. i do have a lossless version of how could i know but i think this recording is better.
Cool! I will change the artwork tommorow. (Once I confirm that all three will fit.)
I'm glad I waited to download! 8-)

OK, I finally fixed everything.
First of all, everything on the original post is updated. The downloads that changed are shown in red.
These updates include two significant changes.
1) I've added the three tracks from Dylan to Disc 3. Thanks Dylan! That now makes a total of 47 originals represented. I have also updated the artwork for the back cover of Disc 3 to show these additional tracks.
For those of you who already downloaded here are copies of the updated links to make it easier to find.

2) The At Dawn track that I originally put on the comp was a mistake. It's a long story but I meant for it to be something else. The track that was in the first download was actually from the Demos disc. THIS DOES NOT BELONG! I apologize for this hastle, but please replace At Dawn with the new track I recieved from Dylan. I did not revise the back cover. A long story on the weird date and location but I have my reasons. Again, the original post has been fixed but for those of you who already downloaded, here is the revised link.

Bevil -
Thanks so much for all of your hard work! This is fantastic and much appreciated!
I'm sure the Jacket would be proud... :)
just incredible work, thank you so much for putting this together and I love the artwork, I'm ironing it onto a ringer, it looks fantastic.
I've been listening to these volumes constantly.
Just the fact that you guys are diggin' it is all the thanks I need.
Hey BH, this really is so great, so thanks again. But can you tell me what I'm doing wrong that I don't see any art at the download site? Is that a feature you get only if you're a member?
The files for the cover art are zipped up in the Part I portion of each download.
For example, JJ Top 40 Disc One Part I has the first several mp3 tracks of disc one as well as the disc one cover art all zipped up together.
Unless somthing got messed up. If so, let me know.
Oh, okay I see. I just started downloading them last night (and it takes me forever because I desperately need to buy some more memory). I didn't unzip the files yet, but I'm sure it's all good. Thanks brotha.
Damn Dave! These are awesome! I'll have to DL these when I get back back in town tomorrow. Many thanks will come in the form of frosty tasty beverages at Explosions next week. PM me if you are still planning on going and doing the Halo.

I'm way behind on the board, as usual, but I taped this 10/17/03, and you probably already have it by now but if not, holler, and I'll send it to you. That was a great show. I believe that he did Masterplan there as well, but you probably have it somewhere else. I need to make some trades with someone for this, I still can't download anything. Anyone out there want to burn this and use the USPS (the old-fashioned way) to trade with me? Killer compilation, dude!

I think I just shat myself...this is amazing. The track list is unbelievable, and these songs are so different than when played as MMJ. I have realized once again how incredibly talented JJ is.
BH, thank you so much for this present. It goes to show you that the gifts that are created with someone's heart and soul are the best. The graphics compliment the music wonderfully.
Thanks BigSky!
Don't forget however, that the true thanks need to go to #1) of course JJ himself for not only making amazing art but also allowing us to tape and spread it legally! and #2) Guys like Ger, Kory, Brian, Dylan and others who, if it wasn't for their hard work taping, uploading, etc, I wouldn't have any music to put together in the first place!

Maybe sometime soon. I don't have the capability to do that. I can probably mail you a copy next time I get a chance to burn a few.
aside - I remember when I first heard The Heavenly Music Corporation by Fripp and Eno years ago. It was from a blank tape recorded from a radio station from Philly, with tad bit of static. The tape was probably a couple of years old. It sounded awesome.
Have disc 3 on at work, thanks again 4 compiling this Big D!
:) Blank Tapes.
I remember as a kid standing in my room next to my boom box just waiting for my favorite song to come on the radio so I could press the record button. Actually, I would first hit "pause" then press record, and then when I was ready, I would release the "pause" button. That way, I would be sure to not fuck up the record/play button combo. ;D Come on, you've all been there. (Well anyone over 30 anyway)

Such a fond memory. I almost think it is a defining part of all our lives. (again, those over 30, possibly 27 as the wife recalls this behavior as well)
I remember when "dual cassette decks" came out, and it was like, damn! I'm never going to need to buy music again! I will record all of my friends tapes and I will listen to them forever! This must be a real blow to the music industry! What are they going to do!
So, since once again, nobody pays attention to history, I will go ahead and solve the problem for these "poor" music industry suits.
Step One: Create a new format. I'm thinking a jump drive device similar to the special edition jump drives that the White Stripes sold a few months back. That way, you get the best of both worlds, a digital recording, and a hard package that comes with liner notes, artwork, and that new jump drive smell. ::)
Step Two: Make it 5.1 audio. That way, you can talk about how great it is, and tell everyone they are crazy if they listen to anything else but 5.1. "Oh, you have 128 k mp3? *turns nose up as if something died* How can you even subject your poor ears to that?" Also, even if it is digital and easy to put on your computer, it's 120 gazillion gigs, so it won't be easily transferable thru the interweb.
Step Three: You can put videos, artwork, messages, concert ticket coupons, all on the same jump drive.
Step Four: Make the dumb end of the jump drive look like something. For instance, Z would be the top half of a Panda. At Dawn, maybe a flying V. How sweet would that be? "Hey Joe, pass me the At Dawn Jump." "Which one is it?" "The flying V dumbass, duh?" (My friend Joe is kind of slow.)
Step Five: Sell jump drive music cases to keep them in, commemoritive additions, jump drive cleaners and all kinds of other bullshit that I would probably get sucked into.

You would think he's done Picture of You solo wouldn't you. But no. Well, it's never shown up on any solo show setlist that is available. (I still havn't gotten around to cross referencing all of the new setlists that Riny put up so maybe it will show up.) It's definately not on any available recording.
I think maybe the drums are too important to that song, kind of like I Will Sing You Songs. Both soft and beautiful, yet difficult to do them justice with just an acoustic?
Got it. Awesome work man!
