Title: The Hype
Post by: peanut butter puddin surprise on Aug 25, 2003, 01:57 PM
Is it just me, or do you all sense a growing sea of good vibes about the upcoming release?

I sense a swell of impeccably written reviews, a barrage of media outlets coming together as one to exclaim to the world-this is My Morning Jacket, the best fucking rock band you'll see come this way in years, and here's their new record-you are gonna love this!!

Is it just me?  Help me out here...it seems like we're building to an extreme crescendo!

It does feel like there is a tremendous, unstoppable momentum right now.  I'm actually afraid to read the reviews right now.  I'm too susceptible to letting them shape my perception of the music.

I heard the studio version of Dancefloors for the first time on the radio today(KCRW).  It was quite a thrilling moment!

I predict that for the first time the jacket will get a review (and a good one) in two flemish magazines, namely focus knack and humo (for the belgians amongst us).  If not, I'm going to write a vicious letter to those magazines and explain to them who my morning jacket is.  Let's see if it's all come true.  Like this maybe all the people to which I talked about the jacket, but who weren't convinced, will now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Hallelujah

The Blender review was lame but it's just a men's magazine pretending to be about music.

Yeah, Ifish, Humo should write about them. Though they did have an article on them in 2000, if I remember correctly.

I think all the excitement about the new record is mainly because they're on a bigger label that has money to promote their records correctly. When a big label sends promo copies, some magazines will take more notice to it then if it came from some small label that nobody knows (though Darla isn't THAT small, ofcourse, but you get the point). So I'm afraid part of it comes down to simple marketing. On the other end, that album IS going to be fucking great, as we all know...   ;D

Even BIG BUSINESS is taking note. There's mention in INC magazine today:

http://www.inc.com/magazine/20030901/quickpicks.html

1. It Still Moves , My Morning Jacket (BMG) Jim James may sing like Neil Young, and the rest of the band may play like Crazy Horse, but Louisville's My Morning Jacket's songs are lusher, warmer, and more contemporary. It's the kind of record that makes you want to pick up a pal, choose a direction, and drive until dawn. Rowan West

Thanks for the cool link.  Seeing MMJ and Seal and Frank Black in the same review column was exciting!

Their fan base is spreading like wildfire. Because everyone likes them so much, they can't help telling people how kick ass this band is. It's happening as we speak...All over.

Think how many people you've told..and then think when the last time you told that many people about a band. It's crazy.

I feel like the people that know MMJ are so passionate about them that they spread it just as much as they can.  I know that, for myself, I spread the word about them more than almost any other band I am into because they are relatively unknown (at least around the circles in which I hang...)  I plug At Dawn so much you'd think I knew the band.
I first heard about them in an article I found in Q Magazine, written about At Dawn...  and I'm so gladly I did.  ;D

Yeah, we sure spread the word. Recently I just asked to my friends if they would like to see another mmj gig here in Brussels (belgium) [the last concert we saw from the guys was very recently, namely in march this year]. I thought that they wouldn't want to go because they saw the band just recently and they weren't into the jacket like I am,  but no, they were enthusiast as hell. And it's very nice if you can spread the word and afterwards you can hear that people are extremely satisfied.  So all you guys here on the net, spread the word and open people's eyes and make them believe.  Hallelujah!
