Ho Lee Shit.

I was just listening to them the other day.  Strolling down memory lane, as it were.  My only complaint about the old records was the production.  Very tinny on the 12" and slightly less so on the School's Out 7".  I always regretted that I didn't have anything that better reflected their live sound.

Now, listening to what they did with these tracks, I am very excited indeed.  I've been waiting to hear this for a long time.

This is the first I'm heard any of this. Two Shotguns and Space Beast are freakin' fantastic. I also listened to Hotel Roy for the first time about a month ago. I didn't realize that some of these older projects were this good. You'll have to excuse my lack of prior MMJ knowledge, but are there any other previous projects that any of the guys played with that have been released? Like I said, all I know about is Hotel Roy and now Month of Sundays.

Can't wait for this one!  I thought this was going to be a comp of month of sunday unreleased material but it looks like a full album recorded after Aaron Todovich left the band.   These guys have so much unreleased material they could keep us happy for a long time without released a new studio project.

Month Of Sundays is a waaay cooler band name.
I remember when I saw an interview w/ JJ when he mentioned that was the name of his old band and I thought it was the coolest band name, ever.
Why is it Mont De Sundua, instead?

Anyone?

I'm so excited, though!
This is some reat news!

another band started calling themselves "Month of Sundayz" and the real MoS changed their name to "Two Shotguns" I believe, then eventually went with Mont De Sundua. We recently posted over at our website that it was also printed on the back of their first album cover way back in 95.

This feels like The Acoustic Chorale all over again. I ended up losing money trying to order that from one of the independent stores listed at the time. In the end I payed a shit load for it...

I've been trying to find somewhere that will ship this out to me with no luck.
Can't it be sold here or with the merchandise?

I'm sorry to ruin the party but this really pisses me off.
I have original copies of all of the bands albums, the early recordings, EPs & a couple of singles, both the Elizabethtown soundtracks + The Brown Hotel EP,  the Band tribute album, the Bloodshot compilation etc. Here I am trying to buy everything I can by Jim James & MMJ but I can't because I don't live in the US  :-/

Well, I just spent the last little while doing MINDLESS filing at my desk and took out my headphones and rocked out to the new MDS disc.  For a girl who likes a little more low and slow groovy in her music and nice little respites from frenetic crazy rockin',  I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.  Particularly, the last six tracks.  Okay, that's kind of a broad range, but it's true.  My first reaction is that is sounds like a bunch of teenagers having a good musical masterbation session. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not my thing.  But the more I listened to it I realized I was actually enjoying the raw fever of it (a nice compliment to drudgery in the office!).  You can hear JJ's voice a lot more in the closing tracks and it's interesting to see how his voice has matured over time.  Anyway, I hesitate to write any sort of music review because it's such a personal thing so I won't go on, but after the first listen I have to say that it'll spend a bit of time in the player - a lot more than I thought it would.

That's good news, because they did not ship outside the US, Canada and Mexico for a long time (not even after asking very polite, they simply refused)!

BUT ... I just tried to order, but there's no possibilty to choose another country than (again) the US, Canada and Mexico!

Anyhow. newburycomics.com is working (and it's cheaper, one dollar for the disc and two for shipping ;-) ).

Recieved mine in the mail today from Ear X-tacy! In the shipping instructions I put "please feel free to throw in any freebies, anything you have laying around" and I got six sampler cds! So thanks to whoever packed my order, if by chance you ever read this.
cd's are the following
John Butler Trio: Funky Tonight (4 songs)
Kristin Hersh (3 songs)
The Bravery (2 songs)
JJ Grey & Mofro: Country Ghetto (full album, 12 songs)
The Cat Empire (EP, 6 songs and 3 videos)
Dangerbird Records sampler (8 songs, Silversun Pickups are the only band I'm familiar with on here)
I haven't heard most of these bands so I'm looking forward to this.

The Mont De Sundua disc is pretty damn good so far.

QuoteRecieved mine in the mail today from Ear X-tacy!

I'm really digging JJ grey & Mofro. Haven't gotten to the others yet.

Does anyone know if Aaron Todovich was involved in any of these recordings. I would assume he was. But no where was his name listed in the album.

I must say that I'm really diggin' this album.  The vocals aren't really strong, but the whole album has a cool heavy vibe going on that is really awesome.  I'd definately recommend picking it up at a local store or ordering it directly from darla records (like I did).

Quote from: jefferoo on May 16, 2007, 10:45 PMMonth Of Sundays is a waaay cooler band name.
I remember when I saw an interview w/ JJ when he mentioned that was the name of his old band and I thought it was the coolest band name, ever.
Why is it Mont De Sundua, instead?

Anyone?

I'm so excited, though!
This is some reat news!

So I'm curious if anyone knows where the name 'Month Of Sundays' came from.  I know it's a somewhat common phrase, but I'm curious if maybe they plucked the name from the song 'I Am The Resurrection' by The Stone Roses (released in 1989).

Here are the lyrics I'm referencing:
I'd like to leave the country
For a month of Sundays
Burn the town where I was born
If only she'd believe me
Bellona belladonna
Burn me out or bring me home
