Bitchin'
I fucking grew up listening to Month of Sundays (as all the east end rockers). This makes me happy and i can't wait to hear this record.
Ho Lee Shit.
I was just listening to them the other day. Strolling down memory lane, as it were. My only complaint about the old records was the production. Very tinny on the 12" and slightly less so on the School's Out 7". I always regretted that I didn't have anything that better reflected their live sound.
Now, listening to what they did with these tracks, I am very excited indeed. I've been waiting to hear this for a long time.
Jackson

:D
I love it: 'Why did it take....?We dont know.' classic Jacket humor ;D
sweet :D Diggin it, always wondered what they sounded like.
The first 5 seconds of Two Shotguns = the Beastie's Sabotage.
QuoteThe first 5 seconds of Two Shotguns = the Beastie's Sabotage.
I'm listening to Two Shotguns right now, and came on here to post just that comment. It rocks hard.
awesomeness
This is the first I'm heard any of this. Two Shotguns and Space Beast are freakin' fantastic. I also listened to Hotel Roy for the first time about a month ago. I didn't realize that some of these older projects were this good. You'll have to excuse my lack of prior MMJ knowledge, but are there any other previous projects that any of the guys played with that have been released? Like I said, all I know about is Hotel Roy and now Month of Sundays.

Check the pre-MMJ section at "From Nashville To Kentucky (http://www.gerpotze.com/mymorningjacket/)."
Great news indeed!
Anyone else think that Two Shotguns sounds like Sabotage? ;)
Can't wait for this one! I thought this was going to be a comp of month of sunday unreleased material but it looks like a full album recorded after Aaron Todovich left the band. These guys have so much unreleased material they could keep us happy for a long time without released a new studio project.

QuoteIs this only available at those think indie stores you list? None of those stores are very close to me. Will I be able to order somehow?
Likely, yes. I'm sure some of these stores will sell over the internet, fax or phone.
Now I totally want to order something via fax.
this is what happens when i'm away from the forum for a few days... :D

Dynamite Explosion may be the best pre-jacket song out there! There are tiny hints of the tennessee fire peeking out from there somewhere.
And yeah... I'm pretty sure that's what I heard too...
these tracks are the mad note.
i can't wait for this.
Space Beast sounds like a prototype for The Bear. 8-)
Has anyone been able to get this yet? None of the Indie shops in GA even know about it? They all said they are unable to get it. If anyone has gotten it, please let me know where.
Thanks

any idea how much it will cost to get in to this?
free I think...
Month Of Sundays is a waaay cooler band name.
I remember when I saw an interview w/ JJ when he mentioned that was the name of his old band and I thought it was the coolest band name, ever.
Why is it Mont De Sundua, instead?
Anyone?
I'm so excited, though!
This is some reat news!
another band started calling themselves "Month of Sundayz" and the real MoS changed their name to "Two Shotguns" I believe, then eventually went with Mont De Sundua. We recently posted over at our website that it was also printed on the back of their first album cover way back in 95.
http://37flood.blogspot.com/2007/03/mont-de-sundua.html
this is tomorrow, people. i'll see you there. if you see me, come by and say hi. i'll be nice enough to let you buy me a drink. ;D
What's the scoop??? How was the dance party???
good times were had by all. we got to see some video footage of m.o.s. circa 1998, and let me tell you people... get the cd. good stuff.
the dance party was killer. i stayed until last call, and some killer jams were spun.
more details needed!!!
Quotemore details needed!!!
what else would you like to know? i feel like i need guidance. otherwise, you'll get this:
i drank some. i wore a skirt. i met some fun new people. i danced for four hours with a crowd that included two mmj members. dudes from vhs or beta, too.

regulator/ warren g
bring it on home to me/ sam cooke
natural woman/ aretha franklin

i also remember hearing some prince, snoop, madonna, cyndi lauper, and 50 cent in da mix. don't remeber which ones.
some dude from velocity was there taking pictures. i guess he was doing a write-up about it. if anyone gets that issue and he put those pictures of me in there, i would like a copy. please. :)

what MMJ members were there (besides Jim of course)?

Wish I could've been there for the big party!
Just called my local record store and they have ONE copy and set it aside for me! Shout out to Strictly Discs for having it in stock! http://www.strictlydiscs.com/
[smiley=grin2.gif]
Is it possible to order this online somwhere? Point me in the right direction. I know i kind of asked this earlier, none of the think indie stores in PA even list in on their website, and non of them are close anyway.

This feels like The Acoustic Chorale all over again. I ended up losing money trying to order that from one of the independent stores listed at the time. In the end I payed a
shit load for it...
I've been trying to find somewhere that will ship this out to me with no luck.
Can't it be sold here or with the merchandise?
I'm sorry to ruin the party but this really pisses me off.
I have original copies of all of the bands albums, the early recordings, EPs & a couple of singles, both the Elizabethtown soundtracks + The Brown Hotel EP, the Band tribute album, the Bloodshot compilation etc. Here I am trying to buy everything I can by Jim James & MMJ but I can't because I don't live in the US :-/
Why doesn't Jim not want my money?!!
I can hook you up in a week or so db, I just have to wait til I get back to Louisville...

That's extremely kind of you Kory, thank you very much indeed :)
I just ordered a copy from www.newburycomics.com. Looks like they do some international shipping.
http://www.earx-tacy.com/ sells it on-line too. worldwide shipping.
Thanks for the heads up Red & CC.
I use newbury comics sometimes via amazon.

Haha, that was hilarious!
How's about I send him some DVDs of Japanese Anime & then he can hook me up with Jim's 'only available in the US' releases ;)
So there are still no comments on the new album? Does nobody have it yet? I know since gas is $3.00/gallon I had to order mine online from like 15 miles away cuz the shipping was cheaper than the gas.... Hopefully I'll get it by Friday.
Somebody who has this album already needs to start a new thread.
My local indie store (Music Millenium) has 20 copies - well 19 now. If anybody needs me to get one for them just say the word (and send a check!).
I havn't got mine in the mail yet, but I have heard it and you guys are gonna be real happy.....
Well, I just spent the last little while doing MINDLESS filing at my desk and took out my headphones and rocked out to the new MDS disc. For a girl who likes a little more low and slow groovy in her music and nice little respites from frenetic crazy rockin', I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Particularly, the last six tracks. Okay, that's kind of a broad range, but it's true. My first reaction is that is sounds like a bunch of teenagers having a good musical masterbation session. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not my thing. But the more I listened to it I realized I was actually enjoying the raw fever of it (a nice compliment to drudgery in the office!). You can hear JJ's voice a lot more in the closing tracks and it's interesting to see how his voice has matured over time. Anyway, I hesitate to write any sort of music review because it's such a personal thing so I won't go on, but after the first listen I have to say that it'll spend a bit of time in the player - a lot more than I thought it would.
I need to pick this up. The songs on the myspaces page RAWK!
Funny about the shipping vs. gas price Chico. Unfu*c&ing believable.
i've been listening to the CD for 3 days and i love it. my poor husband was like....can we listen to a different CD. I was like, ah, NO. he's so understanding.
Quotehttp://www.earx-tacy.com/ sells it on-line too. worldwide shipping.
That's good news, because they did not ship outside the US, Canada and Mexico for a long time (not even after asking very polite, they simply refused)!
BUT ... I just tried to order, but there's no possibilty to choose another country than (again) the US, Canada and Mexico!
Anyhow. newburycomics.com is working (and it's cheaper, one dollar for the disc and two for shipping ;-) ).
Recieved mine in the mail today from Ear X-tacy! In the shipping instructions I put "please feel free to throw in any freebies, anything you have laying around" and I got six sampler cds! So thanks to whoever packed my order, if by chance you ever read this.
cd's are the following
John Butler Trio: Funky Tonight (4 songs)
Kristin Hersh (3 songs)
The Bravery (2 songs)
JJ Grey & Mofro: Country Ghetto (full album, 12 songs)
The Cat Empire (EP, 6 songs and 3 videos)
Dangerbird Records sampler (8 songs, Silversun Pickups are the only band I'm familiar with on here)
I haven't heard most of these bands so I'm looking forward to this.
The Mont De Sundua disc is pretty damn good so far.

I'm really digging JJ grey & Mofro. Haven't gotten to the others yet.
Does anyone know if Aaron Todovich was involved in any of these recordings. I would assume he was. But no where was his name listed in the album.
nope. they are post-aaron
newburycomics doesn´t accept paypal... >:(
I must say that I'm really diggin' this album. The vocals aren't really strong, but the whole album has a cool heavy vibe going on that is really awesome. I'd definately recommend picking it up at a local store or ordering it directly from darla records (like I did).
Cool its been two years since the last post!!! :D... I lost my copy when my computer crashed :'(
QuoteCool its been two years since the last post!!! :D... I lost my copy when my computer crashed :'(

Just ordered it from Amazon for less than 6 bucks shipped! :-)
Just got the disc today. After skimming through the tracks, one immeduiately caught my attention. Dynamite Explosion! Ive got it on repeat. I think itll take a few listens for the rest to sink in, but I have a good feeling im gonna enjoy this :-)

This is some reat news!
So I'm curious if anyone knows where the name 'Month Of Sundays' came from. I know it's a somewhat common phrase, but I'm curious if maybe they plucked the name from the song 'I Am The Resurrection' by The Stone Roses (released in 1989).
Here are the lyrics I'm referencing:
I'd like to leave the country
For a month of SundaysBurn the town where I was born
If only she'd believe me
Bellona belladonna
Burn me out or bring me home
