Post by: Bigsky on Jul 14, 2010, 01:03 PM
My Morning Jacket to Play Long Awaited Hometown Show With Very Special Guests, The Louisville Youth Orchestra and Wax Fang
On Friday, October 29th, My Morning Jacket will be performing at University of Louisville's KFC Yum! Center. Supporting the band will be the Louisville Youth Orchestra (LYO) and Louisville band Wax Fang. One dollar from every ticket sold will be going to the Louisville Youth Orchestra Continuing Education Scholarship, which raises money for at-risk youth to be able to attend school. The LYO was founded with the mission to provide high quality musical experiences and the opportunity to perform for the benefit of the Louisville community and its young musicians regardless of race, creed or economic circumstances. It is one of the oldest and largest youth orchestras in the US. The show will also continue the tradition of creating a "Local Louisville Village" inside the KFC Yum! Center, providing locally based businesses and non-profit organizations with a presence at their show.

Tickets for the show go on sale to the public on Saturday, August 14th at 10AM. A limited amount of tickets will be available at Ear X-Tacy on Thursday August 12th at 10AM, in celebration of the store's 25th anniversary and its new location at 2226 Bardstown Road.  In addition, My Morning Jacket will also be hosting a pre-sale to fans beginning at the same time.  Check the MMJ shows page for information regarding the pre-sale, and other My Morning Jacket shows.

Yes, but Black & Endless has one of the greatest songs since Marquee Moon: Sweet Bloody Murder

I've found that when exposing friends to the fang they either become obsessed or make some comment like "his voice is annoying" or "is this sailor rock?" or "I thought rock operas died with American Idiot" even though they're all LIES DAMMIT

At the L'ville '08 show there were a number of booths set up for local businesses and organizations.  I think some had goods for sale and some just had information about their cause.

There is no point, but then again most GA venues have presales anyways. I don't understand why and I work for the ticketing company.

just read your PM, thanks for the info! I'm going to a black keys show the night before the presale. thats going to be a long night full of drinking and i'll be glad not to wake up early in the morning to go to the presale.  one more question though.... how do you know that the event is GA?

edit: because at the press-release someone said "we know how louisville love's their GA tickets" when talking about the presale

Does anyone have any close by hotel suggestions? I don't know the area at all and don't want to end up someplace I regret.

My searching only came up with the Crowne Plaza - 1.8 miles away and the Hyatt - 2.7 miles away. Don't know how accurate those distances are.

Any nice places closer to the Yum Center?

Thanks.

any hotel/motel that you find close to YUM is going to be a pretty quality place because it will be downtown louisville. when you get a few more miles out though it will start getting questionable for sure

The wife and I are strongly considering coming to the show.  It's on our bucket list - to see MMJ in their hometown.

I've only seen MMJ once in a small venue in Montreal (don't get up here in Ottawa or Montreal very often), so how does the GA lineup work?  Do a lot of people tend to camp out or arrive early in the morning?

I haven't found the presale code anywhere, though its a GA show w/over 10,000 "seats" so I would think you're okay waiting until general sale on Friday.

Y'know, I wasn't thinking.  I assume GA floor but don't go on my word.  I did presale for the Oct. Portland, ME show which is a small theater, than pulled another for the wife just a few days ago.  KFC Yum! is much bigger, but so is the MMJ fan base in L'ville, so I suppose tix will go fast.

Do we know for sure that the whole arena is ga, and not just the floor?

It's been a while since I've seen an arena all ga. Other than Phish @ Hampton, VA. in 09, I can't remember another recent one.

Last April's Nashville show was all GA.

I just checked the venue site, which indicated this show is reserved.  I thought someone mentioned this as a GA show.

:-/

So maybe the presale is a big deal.  I stand corrected.

EDIT: Then again, I found the post that started me on this line of thought...

No biggie johnny.

It's just that I have been hearing conflicting reports as to ga,and it would have surprised me to see a big arena all ga.

Stranger things have happened though ;)

Here's hoping we  get some presale codes either way.

Oh, I'm sure you will.  CC always comes through, sometimes within a day of the presale, but he or someone will come through (especially for a L'ville show, I'd think).  Hell, I'm not even going to this one and I'm pumped for presale codes, just for fun.  My guess- "finger licking".

Me too, except as johnny said, the Yum site has it listed as reserved. No mention of ga there at all, as of now.

I know it could change for MMJ, but the two seating charts I've seen have a reserved floor.

I think a part of the floor is GA and the rest is reserved.  I think the only presale is at Ear Xtacy on Thursday morning, cash only, in person, new location.  If there's an online presale I'm not aware of it.

I will be passing through Louisville on my way to Indy on Thursday so I could make the presale.  Do we assume that the 300 tickets are all GA floor or a mixture of GA floor and choice reserved seats?  Hmmm....

If I do make the presale, I will have one other person with me so I could get up to 8 tickets and I only need 4.  PM me if anyone needs a hook up and I MAY be able to help out.

QuoteA limited amount of tickets will be available at Ear X-Tacy on Thursday August 12th at 10AM, in celebration of the store's 25th anniversary and its new location at 2226 Bardstown Road.  In addition, My Morning Jacket will also be hosting a pre-sale to fans beginning at the same time.  Check the MMJ shows page for information regarding the pre-sale, and other My Morning Jacket shows.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone can help clarify. There will be tickets available at Ear X-Tacy Thursday, but for us other folk who don't live in the fine city of Louisville, there's an online presale at the same time? Is that what I'm reading? Hope so.

"standing room only" means all of a venue's seats have sold and there is nothing left but room to stand.

there will be plenty of standing room on the floor for fans of GA, and plenty of nice cushy seats for the lazier folks among us......though i can't imagine actually sitting down during the show.

now to figure out how i'm going to be home in front of my computer at 10:00am thursday.

"Standing room only" could mean two things.  One, could mean that certain section (e.g., GA) is standing room only.

Second, it could mean that the entire facility will be only standing - no seats.  And since tickets haven't gone on sale yet, such a statement suggested that the entire show would be standing room only.  I found that statement surprising since the KFC Yum Centre has seats in the lower and upper bowls.

Regardless, that statement has been removed from the TM website.

You should just order the tickets online.  You'll likely have a better chance at getting tickets.  There will also likely be a limit for the presale, so get one or two friends to order tickets.

If you want to coordinate your efforts, then have one guy down at Ear X Tacy and have one or two of you on the computer.

Yum Center -  www.arenaauthority.com

The show is up on the events page, and I agree with you. I wish we had more official info on seating, but so far the "reserved seating " on the Yum site seems to be the official word.

I believe there is a 4 ticket limit on the 1st day of sale.

What seating chart are you looking at, and where did you find it?  I haven't seen a Yum one yet with a ga section. Just an end stage and 1/2 arena, both with reserved floor.

edit:
The Yum site now has a seating chart up for this show and according to that, the whole floor is ga.

The seating chart link must have just been put up there today.I didn't see it there yesterday or even this morning.

you gotta realize nashville was about 6000 seats and this place is 22000.  they may not sell any tickets in the second level at all.  it just depends on demand.  i think they are saying that the floor and lower level are about 10000 and they are looking to sell that and maybe open more up if it becomes necessary.

For those of you with reserved seating you can click this link, enter your section and row and get a 360 degree 3D view from your seats.
You'll just have to imagine the stage rather than a basketball goal and the seats behind the goal.

Well I know earxtacy was trying to score 200 more tix. And I also know that they're now selling floor tickets on TM til they sell out, they were discounted at ext though. So I'm sure everyone who cares enough to buy tickets today will get the floor tickets

QuoteDecided to do reserved seats for this one. Figure I might need it after the T5 run.

Got better seats on the phone than online. Lucked out with 105 row C!

The reserved seats were too far out for my liking. GA tixs were not available after 15 mins into the presale but by 10:30 I lucked up with 2 on the floor. Now they are sold out again!? What is up with that??

Curious to know how many the floor seats? I didn't have much of a problem, then again, I was refreshing like a madman at 9:59.

Oh, and like a couple others, this will also be my maiden voyage to Louisville. Can't wait.

For most shows, only a certain number of tickets are made available for each section during the presale.  This way, there will be tickets available during the public sale.

I'll be looking forward to getting some bar/restaurant recommendations from you, as we get closer to the day of the show.

Btw, for shits and giggles I checked Ticketmaster and they are selling upper level seats.Pulled section 324 row A. I hope they fill a bunch of the upper sections.

Any advice on where to stay, what to see, and where to eat would be greatly appreciated.  Also, when do you think people will start lining up outside the arena?

I got to EarXtacy at 9:00 and was 45th in line.  I couldn't believe it.  I got two on the floor.  Saw Flyguy who was further back in line but was able to get tickets.  John Timmons made a point to say that it was only because the band is so great that they were able to do a presale at the store, ticketmaster doesn't allow anywhere but ticketmaster outlets (normally).  I thought that was cool.  I'm looking forward to seeing how many tickets get sold.

FYI:

I just got a room at The Brown for $99 plus fees on Hotwire.  This is a pretty good deal considering that rooms start at $209 plus fees on The Brown's website.  It is a Four Diamond AAA hotel and is pretty swanky if you like to roll like that every once and a while...

I got there right at 9:30 and was 67th in line (give or take).  By the time I bought mine there was still a two inch stack of tickets on the counter.  I also thought that it was great that John Timmons let us start buying well before 10.

My girlfriend and I will be coming down from Chicago to Louisville for the first time and were hoping that the locals or those familiar with the area could give us some suggestions about where to stay, what to see, etc..

Is downtown a good area to get a hotel and where are good the places to go out?  We are staying for the weekend to enjoy the city so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

downtown is a good place to stay. the venue is downtown, first off. it would be cheaper to get a hotel outside of downtown, but i can't think of a hotel in louisville that isnt downtown or 20 minutes outside of downtown. so if location is important, which it should be if you're going out, then stay downtown. there are several hotels downtown. the best stretch of bars in louisville is on baxter avenue. baxter avenue would only be a few dollars in a taxi from downtown. other than bars, the best restaurants and stores in louisville are on baxter avenue/bardstown road (same street, kind of. they turn into eachother). theres about a mile stretch of bardstown road that is all independently owned stores and restaurants (where ear x tacy used to be - RIP old eXt building). this mile stretch is just past the bars, so again a short drive. this area of town is called the highlands - (where jims parents live  :) ) the closest hotels to the highlands are downtown. i hope my rambling and lack of punctuation helps.

in my opinion, a great place to meet would be the monkey wrench or molly malones, both are great bars in the highlands not too far from the venue. there are bars downtown in walking distance of the show tho too. maybe the bar inside the Slugger Stadium. hell i think theres a bar inside the YUM center

Thanks so much for the info. I really know nothing about the area, so your advice is much appreciated.  I will definitely book a Hotel in the downtown area and hit up Baxter Ave for some drinks pre and post show.

What do you Louisville guys think the ticket scene outside Yum will be like?

We have ours but was checking for some friends who aren't crazy about what's available on TM.

Should they just get sect 110 on TM, or hope for better outside before the show?

Thanks.

Going to start another fight at home....again. I'm not confident I'll win as I rarely do. If I do, I need a cheap (free preferably) place to crash for a few hours after the show just to get some sleep before the 5-6 hour drive back home. Driveways are fine as I could sleep in my car. I haven't been paying attention, but is the show sold out? Do I need to bust a few kneecaps to get a ticket? I would prolly just be one unless I can convice her to let me bring the boy which would be just awesome. Me and a 12 year old on the rail with penny and crazylove.

yeah, me crashing at your hotel will get me banned from shows for life I would thinks.

I would only want GA unless they allow reserved folks to hit the floor. I do not want a reserved spot at an arena show...unless it's on the floor where I can can get sweated on.

QuoteSorry I couldn't be of more assistance to you, Penny and MJK.  It looks like I won't have an extra ticket and usually I say mi casa su casa but the house will be on the market by then and with any luck, under contract.  I hope you both can make it!

thanks for trying, Dylan..and good luck with the house!
MLK--in no way is this letting you off the hook for coming...Teo will never forgive you.

to you folks worried about floor seats, it does not appear that it will be difficult to make your way down there.

so just buy tix and then find your way.

rmpotsy--are you sure all 85 of your friends are going to make it?!! i mean i have trouble getting 1 person to go to a show with me. how did you manage that! i'm kind of in awe of you...

as for THAT, things like that never work for me. i'd most likely get stopped by security and i don't want the added anxiety of that. i don't even know what it would be like to see MMJ and not be in the first 3 rows. that hasn't happened since 2005. lol.

I really hope that everyone doesn't crowd into the floor.  If they do I may just sit in the seats.  Maybe I'm getting old but I've seen my share of Jacket shows on the rail, time to give someone else a turn.

At my first Jacket show at Headliners I was the only person on the rail.  I felt a little weird being the only one up there but I knew I wasn't going to have that opportunity forever.

well its only 56, and as far as i know they will all be there.  if one comes up thats not being used, i will let you know.  you hafta realize that we are ville folk and we love our hometown heroes.  all my friends are into music and we love the jacket.  there was probably an additional 10-15 people who were too stupid or too slow to get their money in on time and didnt get tix with us.

as far as getting caught going down, if at first you dont succeed, try try again.    ;)

and if you do go and you are solo, i know 56 people that would love to party with you in sec 116, the first 4 rows.

second this. at first, my plan was to sneak down if i didnt get GA. i'm still cool with sneaking  people sneaking down, but what did I go through the trouble of getting a GA ticket for if they're gonna let everyone down. I don't want to have to fight for the rail with people who didn't go to ear-x-tacy at 630 in the morning and wait.

no my hook up preferred that we didnt get GA.  plus with that many people, we figured some would want seats, some would want GA, some would want both.  so we just went with the seats.  we also wanted a good rally point, so seats seemed like the best way to go.

i think GA says GA (no sec. #), but i am not sure.

A change of heart, I see, whtgb.  That's good.

I'm with you, D.  If my group of four with GA tickets gets crowded, we will bow out to those who are, in my opinion, selfishly sneaking onto the floor.

GA ticket sales are limited for a reason.

It could mean a couple of things.

Almost all arena shows I've been to with a floor ga have a section or seat number on the tix. It's really just a way for TM or whoever to keep track of the amount of ga tix sold.

At some other ga shows there was a "ga pit" which would actually be the front ga section, then the rest of the floor was just ga. I don't believe the KFC show has a "pit", and haven't heard anyone say they have pit tix.

I would tend to lean towards the tix you've seen as just having section/rows as tracking numbers... but if they actually said "pit" on them, that's the one I would grab! ;)

i haven't followed this whole conversation, so this might be totally off what you all are trying to say, but I've never noticed my tickets saying any section/row/seat number. I'm pretty sure it says GA in the section spot. I got mine from ear-x-tacy though, so it could be different.

Are they a typical looking Ticketmaster ticket? If they're more of a "special" type ticket sold only at ear-x-tacy, then it's possible they knew exactly how many they had and no need to track the number sold.

I'm just going off past experiences with TM ga tix. Almost always have some type of seat/sect # on their ga's. It's definitely possible they've changed they're "tracking" system, but it sounds like at least some ga's have #'s on them.

On a side note - Has anyone here taken a tour of KFC-YUM?

I was wondering how they plan on seperating the floor from the reserved seats. I haven't seen any barrier type things on the arenaauthority webcam. Since it's mostly for bball, there isn't any hockey boards like in an arena that hosts both.

I'm sure they'll have something setup, just curious if anyone's seen anything.

ok, here's my theory:

click this link, it's a virtual seating thingy for louisville basketball.

http://www.seats3d.com/ncaa/university_louisville/mens_basketball/

type in section 117, row E.

notice the "wall" there at your feet.   is it possible that the first 6 rows  are removable/retractable for concerts and other events?  if so, that would leave that alleged wall as the dividing line between GA floor and reserved seats.

i mean, there HAS to be something to separate the seats from the floor....it would be anarchy otherwise.  i'm in row A of setion 117, i was hoping for a nice, raised, unobstructed view of the proceedings.

thanks to a free ticket from my big sis, i'm going to see the eagles at the YUM! this saturday.  i'll look around and report any findings sunday.

i've seen that phenomenon but only at smaller venues (like the Variety in Atl)...for a bigger size venue, there would have to be enforcement of the GA/seats. ...just my .02

I was looking at my tickets for the show and just noticed it says no cameras or recorders. :(. So does this mean I'll never get to hear the show again after I leave it?? Ooor the more positive outlook, the band doesn't want any bootlegs out because they are going to release it officially?!?!

I have a feeling that since this is a new venue, security will probably be overkill.  Hope not though, as I like recordings and some ganja smoke.

So hyped about this show,  looked at LYO schedule last night.  They have been rehearsing mmj songs.   And have a 3 hour rehearsal with the band on the 27th according to they're schedule.

i'll be bringing some in, but i'll wait for someone else to light up before i do.

and they MUST play "i will sing you songs" with the LYO.  i'll be most disappointed if they don't.

well, the eagles had reserved seats on the floor, so the seats on the side went right down to the floor, no barrier could be seen from where i was.

however it works out, i'm thrilled with the seats i have.  best spot in the house that's not on the floor.

btw, the eagles didn't suck.  joe walsh is a madman.

and the arena is sooooo freakin' sweet.  downtown bars and restaurants were rocking long before and long after the show.  can't wait for the 29th.

the new bbc (right across from the arena) is a restaurant/brewpub.  im sure they wouldnt have a problem with a 12 yr old and his mom.  that also happens to be where the forum meet up is.

there is a lot at the arena.  i think under it maybe, not sure havnt been there.  there is also a lot of surface parking in the immediate vicinity.  the galt house hotel is a block or so away and they have a big lot underneath both sides as well.  if you get there at the right time, im sure it wont be a problem.

Possibly, I need to have them in hand and make sure they entail everything. I don't know anything about backstage passes or whatever so when I see them I'll let you know first

Looking forward to this one! Last time I saw them was the historic 2008 Waterfront Park show. Me and my girlfriend and one of her friends are going. Staying the night in Louisville. Any good pubs to go to after the show?

I just booked my flight.
Please let me know, I might have found some section 118 tix to purchase but I'd like to find something closer, or GA!
Oh congrats on the win!

there are some nice places within a block or two of the arena. the whole area around there should be hopping, you'll have no trouble stumbling onto something to your liking.

across the street the BBC (bluegrass brewing company) is a great place, o'shea's is 1/2 block away, impellizari's pizza........it's all good.

if you don't mind traveling a few miles, bardstown rd. is loaded with places to imbibe.

whatever you choose, just don't go to fourth street live.

seriously, DO NOT go to 4th street live. terrible place. my suggestion is two things - the Monkey Wrench on Barret and Winter (not too far) or any bars on Baxter Avenue. The Baxter bars imo are better than Monkey Wrench only because there are so many so close to travel to.  My gal and i and our parties will probably be hittin Flanagans on Baxter. We should make a post show meet up for all us fans tho.

im pretty sure my crew will be hitting the monkey wrench after.  the owner is a great friend and a huge jacket fan.  he and his girl are at T5 right now.

so, if anyone wants to do that, you will have at least 56 friends there.

penny, glad to see you pulled the trigger.  was there ever any doubt?

i'm staying at the Hyatt so whatever is within walking distance.

i still need a ticket but i think i found 2 to buy off mcgriff? (or the dudes up here from Lexington this week) if i don't get them, i'm going to be hitting you up to see if any of your 56 friends backed out.

i think we are organizing the tix tonight, so i should hopefully know something tomorrow.

you should get outta downtown for the after show.  unless everyone is going back to the bbc.  head to the highlands (baxter ave or the monkey wrench) to get a better feel for this incredible town.

well i am a little biased because my friend owns it and its about the only place i drink, but the monkey wrench is the best bar in the city.  dennie (the owner) is a huge fan and a great guy.  they have an awesome roof deck if its nice out, good food, and a great beer/liquor selection.  great crowd, kinda older, no frat boys, very eclectic, great vibe, and if we want, we can run the music.

The Lebowski fest show is one of my favorite listens.

Okay so I just got back from the Louisville basketball scrimmage at the yum center and there's no barrier or any kind of wall seperating the lower level from the ga area so It should be possible to sneak into ga if you want to, unless security stops it....

I really don't want to be a hacksaw here and am kind of torn on this quote. I don't want GA to get jammed up where you can't move, and it sucks for the people who waited outside to get these seats or got up super-early online.

Again, kind of torn, but I imagine there will be security. Curious to know what the estimate is of GA? Like what the capacity would be?

seating for basketball games is not the same as for concerts and other events.

it is still my contention that the first 6 rows on either side are removable, there's no way they can have the seats going down to the floor and still hope to separate GA from the reserved seating.

my post from a few pages back:

ok, here's my theory:

click this link, it's a virtual seating thingy for louisville basketball.

http://www.seats3d.com/ncaa/university_louisville/mens_basketball/

type in section 117, row E.

notice the "wall" there at your feet.   is it possible that the first 6 rows  are removable/retractable for concerts and other events?  if so, that would leave that alleged wall as the dividing line between GA floor and reserved seats.

i mean, there HAS to be something to separate the seats from the floor....it would be anarchy otherwise.  i'm in row A of setion 117, i was hoping for a nice, raised, unobstructed view of the proceedings.

I don't really know what to expect.  I have lower level seats in Row D.  I am assuming Row D = Row 4.  I have seen tickets on stubhub for Rows A, B, & C, which means they aren't removing  the seats down low.  It is confusing at this point but I guess we will find out soon enough.

I'll have my 12 yr old son and I'm thinking he might not be able to see from GA anyhow.I might take him down closer toward the end if it wasn't too crowded.I wanted him to see the guys really close up but couldn't get tix until after GA sold out.I do think he'll have a better view from the seats.Maybe in the not so distant future I'll get a chance to take him to another venue where he can get a little closer. The wildest thing he's ever seen is Bob Dylan so I'm psyched to see him enter the face melting zone for the first time.

So close! I just finished all my homeowrk, work, studying and everything else for the week. All I have to do is show up to class and relax between now until this! A few things I've been thinking about

Its been pretty much confirmed that LYO is playing TWTHS, OBH, and Move On Up right? And they're playing 9 songs with them? I predict a 9 song encore right now, which would be a pretty awesomely sized encore. Between LYO, tv commercial, press conference, new arena, WFPK interviews, KET interviews.... this is going to be an insane night.

does anyone know when doors are? I'm trying to get to BBC or the venue at 5 at the latest , depending on weather people are going to BBC or not.

I posted it in two threads last night. This one and the and the one about "nice seats available on TM".

I saw them on TM about 5:30pm Eastern, and they were there until about 7:30-8:00pm. The 1st time they came up after selecting best available, and later you had to select ga. I only found them as singles.

I don't think there were all that many. The first ones I saw had a seat # of 1023, and the last one I saw was # 1040.

I'd say keep checking back, because they're releasing seats all over. I'd bet there are some more to come.

If you don't find a ga for your sis, I have a nice reserved in 105 row A, for sale.

Good luck

QuoteHi, I finally convinced my wife that MMJ in louisville would be a noble trip.

looking for a  pair,  staying in Jeffersonville? and need something to do nightlife wise Sat night...nice dinner and ???

any help would be aprreciated

what kind of nice dinner are you looking for?  expensive?  moderate?  ethnic?  where are you from?

Nicer, but still casual, we tend to like the local scenes and unique places.

I am from St. Louis....and still looking for a decent pair for the show :o

My wife and I met some forum folks at Baxter Station and had a good time.  The food was really good, but it still had a nice laid back atmosphere.

http://www.baxterstation.com/index.html

This 100-year-old neighborhood tavern has evolved into a comfortable, casual bistro. It is recognized by The Courier-Journal as one of Louisville's 20 best. Enjoy the comfortable atmosphere by the fireplace or on the heated enclosed deck. Share the good times and come dine with us for fun, food and spirits. Baxter Station t-shirts and gift certificates make great gifts!
Baxter Station opened in the fall of 1989 in the historic setting of Irish Hill, just a few minutes from downtown. The menu features a melting pot of International and regional American cuisine. Baxter Station offers a great selection of import and specialty beers on tap and an excellent wine list at a very attractive price. Discover the fresh, innovative style of Louisville's most popular neighborhood eatery.

My gal just got confirmation that she doesn't have to come into work Friday. Everyone in my party is officially going to be ready at 2pm on Friday. Soooo happy.

I know theres a thread of this, but it didn't really go anywhere so...
What are everyone's post-show plans? Monkey Wrench? Baxter Avenue? Deja Vu?

QuoteAny word on a poster for the show and where to pick up one?

Done by Cricket Press out of Lexington KY.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is different poster for the night of the show.  Or maybe just a bigger version of the steamboat.

Anyone have a guess as to when MMJ is coming out?  Will the LYO play by themselves or only with MMJ?
Title: Re: Long Awaited Hometown Show
Post by: e_wind on Oct 27, 2010, 07:38 PM
LYO is playing their own set before Fang, then with Jacket. I would guess jacket starts about 9 or 930. That's two hours after the show starts and there are two openers.

so you have a car and can get out of jeffersonville?

on that side of the river both in new albany:

bank street brew house - great local beer and good food.  not real nice but comfortable.

la rosita - great authentic mexican.  real stuff, all fresh ingredients and hand made prep.  really good stuff, great place for lunch on saturday.

in the ville (all within 15 minutes of jeff):

the blind pig - new, great, pork based restaurant.  they have other things as well.  nice but casual, cool atmosphere.

723 social - little more expensive, great menu, great food, great drinks.  great atmosphere, its very small and crowded, with some communal tables.

jack frys - if you wanna blow it out, this is it.

if you let me know what else youd like to do, i can probably help.

that wouldbe awesome :-*

Oh and i saw tons of cameras out during it, so we should see a video

The show was amazing.  I'll try to post pictures later in the week, but I forgot my camera cable.

Steam Engine was crossed off the setlist and was never played tonight (my wife and I were able to get a setlist as well, but after some investigating).  I think the delay with Wax Fang's set, plus their 18-minute finale, probably resulted in the band canceling one of the songs.  Otherwise, the show ended just shy of 3 hours.  It was an unbelievable show, and the people of Louisville were loud, proud, and extremely energetic.

We also met some wonderful people from the city and nearby.  They welcomed us with open us, and almost everyone we met wanted to shake our hands since we had travelled a long way to see MMJ.  I'm glad we did.  This show is one I'll never forget.

The show was nothing short of amazing.  After making a mad dash once everyone was let upstairs (to get to the floor) I was the first on the floor and positioned myself right in front of jim.  I currently have no voice and necks a little sore.  And one more thing... there was an awful lot of professional filming going on...

Just made it home.WOW!We had colonels and chickens, an extra long and best ever Mahgeeta,a riled up crowd, and the best live band on the planet onstage. The guys were tight and gave 110%.Jim kept thanking the LYSO and commending them on a job well done.I talked to one of the puppeteers before the show and ask her if they would be joining the band onstage like they did at Waterfront 08 and she said,"Maybe".Then I asked her if it would be during a OBH finale and again she said,"Maybe".Then she added the LYSO might also be onstage for the "possible" grand finale.HAHAHAHA! Nothing like getting the lowdown from a puppeteer before the show.I felt a little smug with my little secret as we went into  the arena. Before the encore Jim left the stage first, then one by one the guys put down their instruments and left the stage until finally there was no one but Patrick jamming out on the drums.Perfect!
My 12 yr old son was in awe.I loved looking over and seeing him rocking out in his ISM's bear shirt and panda ears.I really have the coolest MMJ lovin' kid ever. When I tucked him in he told me he wanted to rock out like that one day.LOL Now I can't wait to see his face when he sees his guitar on Christmas morning.Priceless night of sweet perfection.
Favorite moments were,Bermuda Hwy,Mahgeeta,Off The Record and Highly Suspicious.I saw a Librarian, two mushrooms,a Gumby,Osama Bin Laden,a robot,I even saw one girl dressed like a "hit of acid".My daughter was a pink panda but one guy called her a sheep which made for more laughter and an evening full of Baaaaaahs everytime she looked my way. ;D
I'm  anxious to see everyone's reviews and pics over the next couple of days and I truly wish you all could've been there.

Apparently, someone is shooting a documentary about the band.  Someone told me it's being done by their first drummer who's now a filmmaker.  My wife works for the mayor in Louisville, and they taped an interview with him last week for the doc.  Sounds interesting for sure.

Yep, I heard the exact same thing. I have a friend who works at The Bard's Town restaurant, and the film crew/old drummer came in last Sunday night to eat. Exciting shit....

Sorry I'm extremely hung over but a few things that stick out:

They played the laylow jam backwards. Took a min to realize but it was mind blowing.

Penny said to me when dondante started... We won't get a 20 min version like last week.. But holy shit it was long and 100% different

The colonel sanders bit was hilarious

They had a whole bunch of balloons up in the ceiling of the arena that they released during OBH and when it happened the energy level increased exponentially on both ends.

Will write more later we I get home

what. a. night.

Damn! That was what I needed!  They hit my rock bone as Mr. Scott Carney would say.

Too bad they scratched Steam Engine, I would've loved to of heard it.  I ended up rocking out in the stands with Potsy and his crew most of the night.

Met some more forum folk.  It should go without saying at this point that they were good people.  Met a girl who travelled solo from Arkansas and didn't really know they're catalogue very well.  She was blown away!  How could you not be?

My highlights were Mahgeeta and Phone Went West.  And everything the LYO did!

Wax Fang's set was riddled with feedback unfortunately but they always bring it!

Closing with "The Phone Went West" was out of this world and a great surprise.  I couldn't stop grinning during that song.  It was also one of my highlights.

I really liked the band opening with "Wordless Chorus".  It was a great way to get the entire arena standing and singing.

I was surprised to hear "Librarian", and I cannot say it's one of my favourite songs, but still it was nice to hear.  I would have preferred "Steam Engine", but that's the only complaint that I have.

Actually, the other complaint I have is with the delay getting into the arena.  We were told the doors would open at 6:00 but we didn't get in until 6:45.  When we were getting our tickets scanned, the one ladies' scanner wasn't working causing more delays.  A special thank you to the woman who allowed my wife, a couple of others we met in line, and myself to cut in front of her to get our tickets scanned.

After getting into the arena, we had to wait another 20 minutes or so at the bottom of the stairs.  It was completely bizarre. There was a camera at the top as mentioned before, which does make one wonder.

Anyway, back to the positives.  Loved the black cats on the side of the stage.  They were a great treat.  The puppets were terrific as well.

The endings to "Magheeta" and "Dondante" were new.  My wife and I had heard the new ending to "Dondante" (rather the extra long jam) in Canandaigua, but last night's was different.  Actually, it wasn't even the ending.  After the chorus, the band changed the flow of the slow with a long, guitar-driven rift and concluding with Carl on the sax.  It was great.

We missed the balloons coming down because we were very close to the front.  I looked back after "OBH", and the balloons had already fallen. I would have loved to have seen that moment.  Anyone take a photo?

What an outstanding show.  It was the closest I've been to the band being right up front at the rail.  Non-stop energy.  Jim has some great rock moves dancing around the stage.  Like people have said the entire show was caught on professional video camera.  Photographer said it was for a documentary of everything leading up to this show.  I agree with others that Mahgeetah was absolutely mind-blowing.  Definitely the highlite for me and Phone Went West was great.  I'm definitely sore today, and my ears hurt.  Can't wait to see them again whenever that may be.

Fucking amazing night! Being 15 feet away from the band and looking back during OBH and seeing an entire arena filled with thousands of people jammin was surreal. No one was being still all night from what I can tell. PWW was my highlight. And Evelyn cause I've never seen it. I decided I was gonna film one song last night and I just chose randomly. It was Evelyn and it's a bad ass video. At one point they all
Froze like robots for a good 30 seconds. I'll up load later.  I didn't like that they played Librarian, but with LYO it was awesome. There was a kid playin stand up bass with hair that probably out does Patricks and he was  JAMMIN the whole time. Nothing about this show was less than incredible. Definitely a special night that I believe will be talked about with Roo and NYE shows.

I was like "second row" behind the rail. Jims side wearing a Bear costume. Did I meet any of you all?

Ohhh and my girlfriend and I got posters that are bad!! Limited edition out of 55 signed and numbered. I'll upload that too

best phone went west ever.

what a night.  the atmosphere was unstoppable, the crowd was undeniable and the band was just firing on all cylinders.  you could really tell how much fun they were having and how proud they felt.  they put so much energy into every song.  it seems they rocked out hard on everything, even the slow songs.  carl seemed possessed, he was all over the place with windmills and guitar flourishes.  cicuital was everything i hoped it to be, backwards lay low, new magheeta, new new dondante, the list could go on and on.  it was nice meeting all the forum folks, cant wait till our next reunion.

i however did not need to see that setlist with steam engine on it

the kid bassist with the hair was AWESOME.

hows that hand holding up darkglow?

I have just posted 8 videos, ("Intro/Wordless Chorus", "Evil Urges", "Anytime",  "Mahgeetah", "Phone Went West", Jim James addressing the crowd, "Move On Up" and "One Big Holiday") from the show last night on YouTube.  Not the greatest quality, as they were shot on a digital camera, but worth watching.  Enjoy!

Quotewhat a great night!
nice especially to meet slappymoe, mrs and mr. taterbug!!.
phone went west was my favorite.
crazylove is the best concert friend, we made fools of ourselves in front of lp again but the YUM center looked pretty cool
what a great way to top off my jacket week.

Wow I must be a really awesome concert friend, since someone as famous as Penny Lane is posting for me as me!

I wonder if Johnny Quaid's appearance at T5 has anything to do with that.  As much as I love Carl, he doesn't have the effortless stage charisma of Johnny.  Maybe seeing Johnny has caused Carl to step up his game from a stage presence perspective.

I don't mean to be so riled up all over the board here, but it's Halloween now and I don't think I can much help it.... what a beautiful video!!! I love how Chicken just nods gently through the song...... and the big Cheshire cat(s) on the right... man I bet that was a big psychedelic PLATTER of an evening! Thanks for sharing! (And stober, are you "theboognish1" on youtube I'm assuming? Just had to  [smiley=thumbup.gif] real quick if so!)

You lucky ducks who got to be there!!! I hope to see some costume pho-toes!! It sounds like pure magic through and through.

wow.

took a day for my brain to un-scramble.  what a night.

great show, so nice to meet some forum folks at the BBC.  it was pure coincidence that my buddy and his wife got a table right next to you guys, and that i just happened to spot the only person i would have recognized...pennylane.    it was fate, i tell 'ya.

it's only natural that a band with such a great bunch of guys would attract such a great bunch of fans.  i hope it was worth the trip for all you out-of-towners.

and now to see the taping is already available.....so sweet, thanks stober.

MMJ is the gift that keeps on giving.

listening to carried away right now.

i remember hearing it in nashville in april, thinking, "why is carl singing?"  took me a while to warm up to the song itself and the idea in general.

but it really doesn't suck, and carl's solo guitar work is just absolutely gorgeous.

Just like the show, I wish the LYO could be heard louder on the recording. But definitely one of the best shows I've seen.

I apologize for posting under Crazylove's screenname last night.
They kept me pretty hammered on cider apple wine concoction all weekend, so I can't be held responsible. I WILL say that the show was terrific, especially PWW (did I saw that before?) but the real blessing was the weekend at Teo's and Crazy's place. I haven't laughed that hard in years..or decades.

Can't wait to hear the recording for this one, Ky says it's purty great.

it wasn't the same without you being up there on the rail...and me resenting you for it.

Remember Gene the stagehand from NYC? he handed me the setlist on Fri..it pays to be loud, annoying, and persistent sometimes.

To all the people of Louisville, my wife and I would like to say thank you for the hospitality and the warm, extremely friendly welcoming you gave to us.  We met a lot of great, incredible people who treated us as if we were just like one of the family.  We had a great, albeit short, time in Louisville and we look forward to visiting your quirky, eccentric, yet wonderful city soon.

Sadly, I met no one from theses boards, BUT I couldn't agree more with you. Loved your city and you. And the fairly priced beers at the venue. Loved our day trip to Lexington, those equestrian estates, horse #8 in the second at Keeneland, Burgoo, and the people again. Loved our dinner at Ramsi's and our server Bianca(you should go and ask for her) loved walking the Cherokeee Triangle area and into the park.

It's really a great city.

Great to hear Rufus, we are very proud of this town and the folks in it and from it and we love to share with others! Let's hope the boys get this album done and get back in front of us all as soon as possible!

They dressed as the ghostbusters on a previous Halloween show.  I'm sure they didn't want to give away their costume and just used that pic.  Wouldn't call it a hoax.

QuoteOh and while the youth orchestra was opening the show they played into the woods it was crazyyy! my hands are still shaking....
we were strolling the concourse checking the place out.....suddenly, i hear the familiar sounds of into the woods......hurried inside with my little ipod nano video camera and caught the last 3 minutes or so.

it's my first-ever youtube upload, just for those who would like to hear the LYO version.  the video is pretty useless (we were at the far end of the arena at the time) but the sound is decent.

The wife and I took a pee pee break before the encore and while on our way we ran into Paul Dimeo from ABC's Home makeover edition.  We didn't talk to him because I had to pee really bad. He was just standing there all by himself and lookin kinda lonely.
Here is a picture of him  if you don't know who he is.

Tonight marks the 8 year anniversary of this show.

It's also the day I discovered My Morning Jacket for myself. I took a chance and went to the show as a spur-of-the-moment thing after having stayed late for an event at work that night up in Louisville (I commute there for work). I missed the opening acts (Louisville Youth Orchestra and Wax Fang) but got there about 15 to 20 minutes before MMJ took the stage. I was on the floor (General Admission) and worked my way to between 15 and 20 rows of people back from the center of the stage. As the show progressed, I started feeling like I had discovered something I could get into and get into deep. I was right.

Looking forward to many, many more years from this killer live band and each of its wonderfully talented musicians.
