Sunrides and the girls scream

As far as anyone can tell, it's an intro or an idea for a different song that he felt fit the beginning perfectly. It's officially available as I Will Be There When You Die (2-Meter Session) on Chapter 2, which you can pick up in the iTunes store if you like.

I always thought it was perfect as an intro for the song, and haven't seen it surface anywhere else, though I'm certain some of the completists like aMD or Dylan could help solidify details on that one...

Sunrides and the girls scream
Walk high on the I-Beam
Your lovely soul
But only God knows it's over
Don't forget to hold
your head when you let go...

The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

Oh whoa. This is a totally different recorded version. I apologize for the bad info. Is there a way to download this?

Sorry for triple posting. Here's the mp3 of the song for download from the show on April 8, 2000:

Well if no one else is going to be totally blown away by this right now with me, I'll be blown alone...

:-/
Seriously though, this is way different than the 2-meter session, mainly due to the extended length of the sunrides intro. Very incredible. I'm going to be digging through the 200 tour archives now for more of these. See if I can catch an evolution. Thank you for this thread!

So it's not a different song?

Shoot.

You're welcome =p

As far as anyone can tell, it's an addition or an intro to the song that was scrapped at some point on that tour. I don't know what the deal is behind that, but it might be interesting interview fodder at some point.

I think I got those lyrics wrong though. I think it might be:

You're a lovely soul
but only God knows it's so...
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

Thanks for uncovering a gem!

It's definitely Sunrides and the Girls Scream, which is the intro part of IWBTWYD that Jim performed mainly in 99 and 00 most notably on the 2 meter sessions.  This is an extended version from April 8, 2000 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. Here's more info and a picture of the blue guitar:

Sounds like a great recording I'd like to hear the rest of the show.

Wow, thank you for doing that research. How? I must say, that's impressive. Thank you!

I can't believe no one else here seems to have this show.  I'll up it after the feast if no one else beats me to it.

The last six chord changes on the baby blue guitar! ;D  Classic.

There was another version of this whole show out there somewhere but it didn't sound quite as good as the shortened version on archive.org.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Very cool version...I must say, I've never seen MMJ live, I'm relatively fresh in the game, but very hardcore at the same time...as in, bought At Dawn about a year ago, loved it, and bought every recording they legitimately released within weeks, and hunted down every bootleg i could find.  I've never heard Jim talk that much live! There are some bands that are known for their on stage banter, but at least judging by Okonokos, Acoustica Circuosa and all the live bootlegs I've checked out I've never heard so many words out of Jim James's mouth. I love this version though. I love how when the guy yells "smash it" Jim just humbly and politely replies "I can't. It's not mine."
