Someone posted an auction on eBay for a supposed demo tape from 1996.  Curious what folks think about authenticity.  I'm not interested in bidding, unless it stays low, but would love to hear it.  Anyone with knowledge of this tape?

Note song titles: Evelyn is Not a Real Person, The Phone Went Dead, etc.

I noticed another post about this auction under "Other Music" from MMJNashvilleFan, a new member.  I wonder if this is the guy selling the tape, trying to foment bidding.

No offense to MMJNashvilleFan if I'm wrong.

I don't have this, I want it.  That's Jim's handwriting, so it's probably real. I'd heard Alabama Come Clean, but I can't put my finger on where I came across it.  Looking into this...

I'll share if I win, so please don't outbid me people!

Okay, a little research shows that "Alabama Come Clean" is the name of the hidden track on Tennessee Fire. "Rid of You" is likely an early version of Just Because I Do but I can't guarantee it.

Also, from the same site, the following quote under "At Dawn"-

"Phone Went West" is listed as "Phone Went Dead" in the lyrics.

I concur.  I want someone who deserves to have this tape, and aMD qualifies.  I'm a newbie and appreciate the longtimers for all they do here and elsewhere.

Would that be the "Untitled Instrumental" (2:42) on my digital copy of Tennessee Fire?

Yep, that's the one.

Something about that tune reminds me of something else.  I wonder if they recycled the melody in a later song. Does anyone else recognize it?

I just renamed the track.  I love shit like this.

(I have a copy of the original demo tape for the band Boston, which was titled "We Found it in the Trashcan, honest!".   Apparently, it was mistakenly tossed in the trash but recovered.  My boss at the time, working at a camera store, got a copy from Tom Scholz when he did some portrait photography.  Its great, with alternate lyrics to a bunch of classic Boston tunes.  I should get it onto the computer.)

Johnny, you HAVE to digitize that Boston tape! And I want Dylan to get that demo!

Apparently, the Boston demo tape, which I got in 1987 second generation from Tommy Scholz himself, is now a fairly popular bootleg in the Boston fan community.  I'm currently running a slow torrent download of it and will post a link soon as I can.

Dude, if you want to bid, you should. If you win, we hope you'd share. Don't let a message board tell you what to do.
