I'm a little surprised more people haven't mentioned Z.  That definitely qualifies as a perfect album in my book.  Others that come to mind:

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Radiohead - OK Computer and Kid A
Neil Young - Tonight's the Night
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Tool - Lateralus
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Son Volt - Trace
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run and Wild, Innocent, E St. Shuffle
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Richard and Linda Thompson - I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love

I would choose Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea as PJ Harvey's 10
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Most of my 10's have already been listed (MJK's list had me constantly nodding in agreement) but I would add:

Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
REM - Automatic for the People.

I'll further throw out there that Follow the River may be the best closing song on an already perfect album that I've heard.

You totally stole my Sig, you Juggalo you.

Whoop Whoop!

Screw this perfect album crap, what about perfect music video.  Best viewed after consuming mass quantities of Faygo-flavored meth:

Insane Clown Posse - Miracles

On a more serious note, I've really enjoyed reading this and seeing what makes people's lists.  Many others I've seen I agree with that didn't make the list I did off the top of my head.

A couple others I would add that I don't think I've seen yet:

Bob Mould - Workbook
The Stooges - Funhouse
Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator)
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

I think with PJ Harvey, you could make a case for any of Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love, and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea being perfect 10s.  It's just a matter of which one speaks to you the most.

completely agree with this too.

R.E.M. always had a knack of ending their albums with the perfect song. Electrolite is another that comes to mind.
At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

I agree that Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville should be on the list as well.

Also makes me think, Liz Phair has had about the most dissapointing career arc of any artist I can think of.

QuoteSaying evil urges has more of an "album factor" than anything makes me question if you even know what that means. Sorry, I actually love eu, but it might be the most all over the place album I've ever heard in my life, by anyone.

Exactly right, and so well said.  I will say I would put the first 3 mmj records as 10's.  Z - was a great record but it was also their first fork in the road leading to what they are now.  I still love the band, and Jim, but I just can't say with all my heart that I'm loving the direction they've taken on the last two albums.

At Dawn was a sprawling masterpiece, EU was a sprawling mess.  Circuital was a perfect ALBUM, I'm just not convinced that it was slaved over.....the first three records sound like they were Slaved over, like they were just ingrained in Jim's soul.  Circuital sounds like it was somewhat produced.  Of course I've also had many great times with Circuital and Evil Urges....drumming on a ceiling fan to "Evil Urges".....Singing at the top of my lungs to "outta my system", Losing My Mind To "Highly Suspicious" etc. etc.

Jim is the best producer the bands ever had.

TN FIRE - Saw God
At Dawn - Felt God
It Still Moves - Touched God

Slow, Slow and Movin Away are two of my favorite songs they've written, so I'm still really looking forward to the next chapter.  :-*

I just hope Jim takes over the production again.....also can't wait for the solo album.

oh, and....

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Explosions In The Sky - Those Who Tell The Truth...
The National - Alligator
Galaxie 500 - On Fire
Iron and Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean
There's Still Time.........

Yes, that is awesome.  I would add to these descriptions:

Evil Urges - Shagged God in the backseat of a Camero
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Jaimoe

As since my name is Jaimoe, aka Jai Johanny Johanson, I'd be amiss not to mention a few 10s from my band:

The Allman Brothers Band
Idlewild South
At the Fillmore East
Eat a Peach

Here's four more random picks. And yes they are live, but all were official releases at the time (and must owns)...

Live at Leeds
Kick Out the Jams
Band of Gypsies
Live Dead (way better than Europe 72)

Whippy and Tracy, you have both just summarized one of my high school dating experiences. Camaros are not roomy, mind you. Also, God didn't quite live up to the hype.
