I refuse to buy this EP, simply because there is not enough music on it.  If I buy it, I will listen to those four songs until I run them into the ground.  I'll wait for the first LP.  These songs are wonderful, they just need to put some more stuff out before I buy into them.  I the kind of guy who will get absorbed in everything musical piece a band puts out and listen to them for weeks on end, but you can't really do that with just a single EP.
I don't understand this.  So you'll give a band your money when they are already established but not when they need it most?  I agree the four song EP is a great tease and the full length should be out soon no?

Not quite, I will support them once their first full length LP is released, which is a time they will need my support.  If I buy their EP now, I will listen to those four songs too much wishing they had more music out.  That in turn, will cause me to run those four songs into the ground where I may not want to listen to them again for a long while.  I'd rather have 10 songs to sift through and enjoy each a fair amount.  If the LP will be out soon, then I will be buying it and the EP.  In the meantime I will keep from buying the EP, because I don't want to burn out on the group.  There is just not enough material out yet to really support them.  4 songs, one of which is 2 minutes long (a damn good 2 minutes, but still just 2 minutes), is not enough yet.
I don't get it

I'm not aware of any LP coming out anytime soon guys, just sayin

From http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20121123/SCENE04/311230062/concert-Debut-Album-Tickets?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Home|s&nclick_check=1

"The band signed a deal with England's acclaimed Trade Records after only playing around 20 shows, and is following up an EP release by recording its debut album in Louisville with Kevin Ratterman. The album won't be released until next spring, but you can hear a few new songs Saturday at Headliners Music Hall."

Damn, thanks. Hyped!
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

I broke down and picked up this EP; their LP better show up within the next year!

They are playing tomorrow night in Indianapolis, too bad it is 21 and up...
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

Houndmouth seems to be following a similar path to Alabama Shakes although they lack the sheer rock star power of a Brittany Howard type.  Still with only a 4 song EP, opening for Grace Potter and DBT and then getting added to Newport.  Good for them.  Now back it up with a kick ass debut album already.

The members of Houndmouth assured me personally that they would be issuing a full-length LP this year, and that it would, indeed, kick ass.
"...the Bear, Heartbreakin' Man, Evelyn...I think we all know those."

Tired Eyes

I recently saw Houndmouth open 5 shows for the Drive-By Truckers.  I thought they were terrific each night.  I love the EP and look forward to the full-length album.

Jeff Murray

I saw them open for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals last Saturday and they were great.  You can see they all enjoy being on the stage just having fun.  Had to laugh when they kept saying they only got two more songs, and then joked that would make a great song title.  Hopefully they don't blow up too quick as I would like to see them play a show here in Harrisburg.  Looking forward to hearing more from them in the future.
Pretty please with peanut butter pudding surprise on top??

Fully

The new Houndmouth album  has leaked. It is awesome. I will say that I preferred the versions that were on the EP. This has a little slicker, more produced sound, but I still love this band's music. I can't wait to get this on vinyl. The release date is June 4. Also check out this blurb from Rollingstone.com.

LBSUNFLWR

Yeah, I have played it 4 times and am loving it so far!!!

Hawkeye

Anyone know where I can listen to the new LP?  I finally listened to the EP last night!  My cup of tea.
We could.

TheThird

Is the new LP up for preorder on vinyl yet? I briefly looked around last night but I couldn't come up with anything.

So all in all I like the new album.  Perfect for driving in the spring.  I do concur with Fully that it sounds overproduced and at times sounds way too bubble gum and sunshine for me.  I'm a huge fan of Matt Myers' songs so Illinois and Ludlow are two of my new faves.  Like everything changes mentioned before, wearing out the EP took away some luster from the listening experience.  Plus I love the Big Oil Spill and its a shame they cut it.

Looking forward to seeing them next weekend.

Honestly, the "gimmick" is tiresome to me. They're singing like they're Guthrie... over-worked lower class americans, casinos, cigarettes, drugs, johnny-law, etc. They're giving this "cool redneck" persona off in all their lyrics, when the truth is that theyre just some nerds from southern indiana (thats louisville's armpit). they dont have experience in any of the things they sing about, and it makes it entirely unrelatable to me. I like the music fine, and I think I will get over this, but I can't see them making major headway in the future if they make more music past this with the same shit. I realized it in the EP, and am shocked that they continued with it for 8 more songs or whatever

But I don't think the Avetts or Mumford Family came from the dust bowl era to usher in the era of hootenannies. I'm pretty sure Keith Richards and Jimmy Page weren't Mississippi delta cotton pickers either. Loving a type of music and playing it doesn't mean that you have to have lived it to be authentic.as long as there is some universality to it that you can relate to and you're good at it, then in this day it doesn't matter.

i spent about 450 miles on the road last week, and listened to this album the entire time.  it's one of my favorite releases of the year, and i couldn't agree more, it's perfect driving music.
some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later it all gets real.

That's some harsh words for where people come from huh?  For sake of argument, most song writers don't write all their songs about personal experiences and the 60's folk troubadours were no different.  They were story tellers first and foremost.  The nature of Houndmouth's lyrics fit more with their sound than singing about ipads, sexting, and loss of privacy. :cheesy:

Weren't you the one giving me heck about not wanting to pick up the EP so I could avoid that exact scenario you just mentioned from panning out?

It's all good though! Waiting for the album release, since I'm to afraid too download it.  I'm  not looking to grab any unwanted viruses.

I was giving you crap about not supporting a band when it's most important for them.  What's the fun of paying for a new Pink Floyd album when you can shuffle a couple of bucks and support in the direction of a band in their infant stages.
