I can't believe how long this is. I'm bored, dont judge! This was an incredible year for new music. Hopefully 2014 is just as good.

The cream of the crop:

The Deep Dark Woods - Jubilee
Jason Isbell - Southeastern (saw this year)
Water Liars - Wyoming
Phosphorescent - Muchacho (saw this year)

The rest:

White Demin - Corsicana Lemonade (saw this year)
Deer Tick - Negativity (saw this year)
Rose Windows - The Sun Dogs (saw this year)
Okkervil River - The Silver Gymnasium
J. Roddy Walkston & The Business - Essential Tremors (saw this year)
Futurbirds - Baba Yaga
Steve Gunn - Time Off (saw this year)
The Moondoggies - Adios I'm a Ghost (saw this year)
Mavis Staples - One True Vine
Kurt Vile - Wakin' On A Pretty Daze (saw this year)
Jim James - Regions of Light and Sound of God (saw this year)
Foxygen - We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors Of Peace & Magic (saw this year)
Josh Ritter - The Beast in It's Tracks (saw this year)
Hollis Brown - Ride On The Train

Dr. Dog - B-Room - while this is in no way a bad record it is my least favorite of theirs. I never really felt the urge to listen to this.

Album I know would be on this list had a bought it. I'll own it eventually:
Bill Callahan - Dream River

Shit I didn't discover until 2013 that was released in 2012:
J. Roddy Walkston & The Business - s/t (edit: actually this is probably older than '12)
Diamond Rugs - s/t
alt -J - An Awesome Wave
The Districts - Telephone (saw this year)
Father John Misty - Fear Fun (saw this year)

ajclements004

JJ Grey and Mofro - This River.

Northern Neighbour

Rich (FiddleCastro) and I are counting down our favourite albums of 2013.  Here's the first five.

GO4IT

I guess because of his last name, we'll have to wait until your last post to hear about the #1 overlooked album of 2013:
http://www.popmatters.com/feature/176824-the-top-10-overlooked-albums-of-2013/

This is definitely on my list of best albums of 2013 and thanks, NN, for turning me on to Zach.  This is on heavy rotation, now with my new Ortofon cartridge, at the GO4IT household!  The vinyl I picked up at his show is a real fine pressing.

That's a cool list, GO4IT, and I'm happy to see that I've actually heard one of those, Speck Mountain, thanks to Rich, I believe. And Mr. Cale obviously did not make The Revue's cut, else he would have been listed before Clutch.

Northern Neighbour

You'll have to wait and see if Zachary Cale made it since we're doing this alphabetically by band name and first name (just easier that way).  Glad to hear that you enjoyed the album, though, GO4IT.

In the meantime, here are ten more of our favourite albums:

18. Kvelertak – Meir

I saw Kverlertak this year at a festival in Norway.  They were great, but apparently the Norwegians don't much like a mosh pit as security told me to stop jumping around.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

Shit, I forgot to add Son Volt to my list.

Nice!
Glad to see you did the right thing and included Zachary in your list, batting cleanup, and with some kind words.
I'm going to wear that album out pretty soon.

PS - I'll try to go easier on you during TWTHS, NN, but no promises.

Agreed about the Windhand record.  2013 has been an incredible year for metal releases, probably the best year ever since I've been paying attention.

Come join us in the metal thread, Wolof7, its gets a little lonely in there sometimes.
