Since Joan has just released a new studio album, I thought it might be time to give her a thread of her own.

Her new album is Electric Ursa. It came out on September 30, 2014. I saw her open up for Daniel Martin Moore last night in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I picked up a copy of the album on vinyl for myself (comes with an MP3 download) and on CD for a present for my parents (they went to the show too). Here is the link to her new Interweb page. http://joanshelley.flavors.me/

Here are a few videos I have recorded of her performing solo and with Maiden Radio.

I got to see Joan Shelley last night (10/24/2014) at Zanzabar in Louisville. This is "Sure As Night" from her first album, Ginko. She had to cut her set a bit short because of her voice going. This performance is still very good. It also features Cheyenne Marie Mize on violin.

I went to see Joan Shelley perform at the Clifton Center in Louisville, Kentucky last night (Jan. 14, 2015). She was opening for somebody I had never heard of at a free event put on by WFPK called Winter Wednesdays (I had to leave right after her set and didn't even hear him play). She played for about 40 to 45 minutes. Here she is performing the song "Your Doll" from her 2012 album Ginko. Mr. Dan Dorff accompanies Joan on keyboards.

Maiden Radio (Joan Shelley, Julia Purcell, and Cheyenne Mize) put on a very special show for backers of their new album (and for anyone else who wanted to attend) this past Saturday (1/24/2015) at Dreamland off Market Street in Louisville, Kentucky. The band had set up a fundraiser on the Interweb to help pay for the recording session that already took place up in Maine last month. At the beginning of the show, they announced that with all the money pledged and with some other contributions they received, the band reached their goal. They had one of their collaborators open the show for them, Nathan Salsburg. He plays acoustic guitar, and I was very impressed with his playing. I picked up his 2013 album Hard For To Win and Can't Be Won on vinyl. Here is a video I recorded of Maiden Radio (featuring Nathan Salsburg) performing the traditional bluegrass song, "My Home's Across The Blue Ridge Mountains".

Maiden Radio performed a few songs last night at the Clifton Center in Louisville, Kentucky (April 24, 2015). Here is the traditional song, "Green Icy Mountain".

(The camera work is a bit shaky since I was sitting in the very back with my back against the wall trying to zoom in and hold it still. The sound isn't too bad though.)

I went to see Maiden Radio (Joan Shelley, Julia Purcell, & Cheyenne Marie Mize) perform at the Clifton Center in Louisville, Kentucky last night (Friday, June 19, 2015). This show was their album release show. Their new album is called, Wolvering. Last night was an amazing night for Joan Shelley and all of her local (Louisville/Kentucky) fans. Joan performed in front of her largest ever Louisville (hometown) audience. This show was my 12th time to see her in concert (not counting the time she stepped on stage with Jim, Daniel Martin Moore, Ben Sollee, and Dan Dorff for the encore at the KFTC Benefit Show at the Brown Theatre on 12/29/2011). This show last night was her album release show for her new release, "Over and Even". Elephant Micah opened for her and were joined on stage for a song by Louisville's own Will Oldham and for another song by Joan Shelley herself. When Joan took the stage, she incorporated many, many of her collaborators for different songs. Here is a partial list of those who performed with Joan: Will Oldham, Nathan Salsburg, Rachel Grimes, and fellow members of Maiden Radio (Cheyenne Marie Mize & Julia Purcell). There were several other musicians/friends in the house that evening as well. Daniel Martin Moore was there taking photos (I said hello to him as he passed me going up the steps), and Jim James was there hanging out with Daniel. I saw Jim and Daniel in the tunnel that leads to the stage keeping a low profile. He was there all the way through the show. Here is a video of the song, "Jenny Come In" with Will Oldham on backing vocals and Nathan Salsburg on guitar.
