The first show of the evening was a spirited performance by Kentucky's My Morning Jacket. I spent part of the set discussing the various merits of the band with Radiogram's Ken Beattie. Ken is himself a very accomplished musician but seemed in genuine awe of in their skill. The band seemed really glad to be playing and came across far more upbeat and lively than they do on their albums. My Morning Jacket should be awarded the longest hair in rock award as I don't think I saw any of their faces the entire time they were on stage. The set took on a powerful, yet somber atmosphere when lead singer Jim James was left on stage solo for several songs. Eventually the whole band returned and they finished off the set with a few rousing encore songs. Overall it a pretty impressive set and a great way to begin the night.
