I have seen MMJ five times live now.  Three inside and two outside.  I was wondering whether you all prefer them inside or outside live?  Obviously the concerts kick-ass either way and they put on a good show regardless.  It seems like when they are outside they are more limited by time (i.e. festivals) than when they are headlining at an indoor venue.  However, some songs to me (Golden and At Dawn especially) feel like they were meant to be played outside.

good question.  both are excellent, but i see what you mean by certain songs being "outside" songs.

soundwise, being somewhat of a purist, inside has advantages.  but outside is a different vibe, somehow more free.

i'd say you've uncovered the toss up question of the day!
just to add another variable, how about time of day...what is better, day or night?

After doing Bonnaroo (day) and Lebowski (night)--I would go with night.  But that probably had alot to do with the scenic backdrop of the river and the fireworks.

My favourite time to see them would be morning. Otherwise they'd be called my evening jacket or my noon jacket or something.

At night in the open air would be great indeed... But then again, I think the accoustic songs might do better inside. Hmm, tricky one!

I can't wait to see more outside shows. Jim's voice carries so well, it's a shame that anything should confine it.

Although, inside is intense when the room fills and people start really gettin into it.

I'll say outside.
