Rumours are swirling around the PJ fanbase  that My Morning Jacket will tour with Pearl Jam.  Anyone heard anything like this?  At first I thought to myself, "Self, I don't think My Morning Jacket needs to OPEN for ANYONE." But then, I realized that it would expose the band to a group of fans that is loyal to the band it follows, just like Jacket fans. Pearl Jam has lost most of it's "frat-boy" following over the years...It might not be a bad match-up...and since Pearl Jam is touring Europe....My Morning Jacket might be able to take care of some unfinished business along the way. Thoughts?

I love it.

Pearl Jam is my favorite band, and MMJ is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

News coming from PJ in 2 hours

solace

details for the new album (tracklist, title, etc.) are expected today at 1pm PST, along w/ touring info.

and yeah, MMJ are strongly rumored to open the first leg (east coast)

while i've probably seen PJ more than any other band, they will have their work cut out for them w/ MMJ opening  :)

If they open the East Coast tour I may loose my house.  I will literaly go broke following them around.  I'm trying not to get to excited about this but it's starting to look like a real possibility.  Looks like Ramen Noodles for dinner for the next few months.

My thread over at the Pearl Jam board..................

So, if My Morning Jacket does play with Pearl Jam does anyone have any good thoughts on what would be the perfect tag from a MMJ song for Eddie to include.

I go with - Phone Went West tagged onto Betterman

It's the same D-A-G chord progression the lyrics work with Betterman and they could jam the ever living hell out of the end of it just like MMJ does.

Meh. MMJ plays the goddamned Hawaii 5-0 theme. Please, don't let them soil PJ's stage on a tour.

That is a great response, thank you so much for reminding me why I don't waste my time here. Also I heard that PJ tried to get Ider Down to open for them but they were already headlining thier own World Tour. I wouldn't worry to much about My Morning Jacket soiling PJ's stage, I'd worry about PJ getting showed the fuck up by a band that plays the Hawaii 5-0 theme song

Ain't that the truth!

I sincerely hope this is true!!

Nice work on the PJ board too, that was a great response.
But seein you feels good, and its always understood.

Nice work at Synergy.  I don't hang out there anymore either.  It got to be a bit much.  That, and I was banned.  It really isn't a good barometer of PJ fans though.  Most aren't members of the message board.

If they open for Pearl Jam are we going to be able to get tix? I can see alot of people trying to get tix through the mmj fan club or whatever its called we joined up to circumvent the Paerl Jam fan club tix. Anybody have thoughts on how this will work. PJ sells out all the time up here in Jersey.

opinions here....does anyone think it will be co-headlining?  i cant really stand the thought of mmj playing second fiddle.  i went to the wilco show in louisville last year and left big time pissed, mainly because the show started so early, and i walked in at 8:03 with them 4 songs in to their set.  basically, is anyone besides me here unhappy at the thought of them opening for pearl jam?  i wont pay $30 or more to see them open, and i wont be going to the shows if they happen.  just saying.  good luck to the band regardless, it will be an amazing opportunity for them, just not my personal preference.  ill wait to hear for the announcement, but look like my money will be saved for bonnarroo.

peanut butter puddin surprise

just my humble opinion:  I don't think of it as "second fiddle" but as a HUGE, golden opportunity for them to open for a huge band like PJ.  Talk about taking it to another level....I'm certain PJ fans know all about MMJ, but perhaps a large portion of the audience might not know them and get enthralled with the boys like any of us did the first time we saw them live.  Imagine a sold out venue with hundreds of new fans, prepared to run out and buy records, join the messageboard, etc.

If this indeed does happen, it will be pretty friggin' awesome.  ;)

nah, i get what youre saying.  thats why i said it would be awesome for the band.  i wonder if they think they cant do anything more to further their legacy unless its opening for a well established band?  theres nothing wrong with that, i guess its just the purist in me wanting them to have their own tour and see them play twice or three times as long on any given night.  i guess another part is that ive tried and tried and tried to get in to pearl jam, even the later stuff, and i cant do it.  mmj & radiohead, im there!

sweatboard

Well, MMJ toured for Z and I'm sure they will headline for the next album.  This tour if it happens is just iceing on the cake.  They really don't have to do it.  John is right though the audience PJ draws these day are really die hard music fans that listen to alot of different music.  It will be a good opportunity for the band.  I think MMJ would benefit a great deal from touring with PJ for the simple fact that I think PJ would have alot of good advice on how to handle the music buisness side of it.  PJ has been through a whole lot and come out on top of it.  I really respect the way they run thier band and the way they treat thier fanbase.
