quick story:

so I was at the neil young concert at the nokia theater in LA last night (free tix, yay.  shitty venue, boo), and an older gent was sitting in front of me with a new bridge school benefit t-shirt on.  during intermission, i tapped him on the shoulder to ask him about it, and he had been to sunday's show.  my only question was, "did you catch my morning jacket's set?"  the second i said that, he spun around and excitedly shook my hand (that's how neil's old-school fans give high-5, i guess).  he said he'd never heard of them before, but was blown away.  (obvi).  he proceeded to pepper me with questions:  who's the singer?!  how many albums?!  what should I buy?!  etc, etc.  then the lights came back down and neil rocked into his electric set...

At the Sunday Bridge School show, all of the people around us noticed that we were Jacket fans (during yet another stellar set) and asked us all about them. It seems as though many Neil Young fans took notice of MMJ and were totally blown away. It's about time more people get to know them!

I think my answer went something like:

"Oh, man... let's see.  Well, damn... they're all so good.  Um... just start at the beginning, I guess, especially if you're a Neil Young fan."

And then, once I realized he was a little sauced and wasn't going to retain much of what I said:

"Just get them all, you'll be glad you did."

If he could afford those tix to the Neil show, he shouldn't have any problem plunking down $50-60 for the 4 LPs.
