You should show all your love to people all days of the year instead of on a specific day.

Well, of course you should.  But that doesn't mean there can't be a day where everybody gets a little extra goofy.  I used to think like that, too, but I like Valentine's Day in the same way I like Christmas.  It's a place where everybody's on the same page.  It's the commercialism that's stupid, not the idea behind having a day where we universally (or, whichever countries partake) decide to celebrate love.
