My wife won cool points for having a Lucinda Williams CD (pretty much an unknown artist here in Japan) but then lost them all for having a couple of Boni Jovi CDs  :-/
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

haha, awesome. actually, my lady's into some pretty decent stuff. got me into nickel creek a little bit. but, being a darn good musician, i figured i'd not dock points, since she knows what she's doing.

:)

plus, she went to that jacket show with me, out of her own free will. and is open to enjoying them. that said, she doesn't experience that same love for them as i do, but she does appreciate em, which is always frickin great.

on the other hand, she listens to country in the summer, which is questionable. but then again, understandable as background music for good times in the summer. plus, she works on a dude ranch. so it kind of comes with the territory.

jeez welfllet, I get no creds for having a girl's name?

goldengirl

Quotei'm probably the only one of my circle of female friends that is what i would call "passionate" about music (ie slightly obsessive)... but they all really love music... i don't know, maybe its just me, i've always considered myself a bit of a music freak....

I would have to say you sound like me. I think compared to a lot of my female friends I am more into music than them. Except my friend Lindsey is just as into MMJ as me. She is my only close friend that I know really likes them. So we can talk about them for hours. But if it wasn't for me, she would not know who they are. God bless myself :)
Besides her I have one other girlfriend Cori who is probably just as into music as much as me.
I think I am so into music because of my home environment. My dad listens to great music.  I grew up to Led Zepplin, Sabbath, Old and Good Van Halen, Aerosmith, Allman Brothers, Doobie Brothers...stuff like that. I have played him some Jacket and he liked it. I guess my perfect summer would be filled with concerts. If I could afford that and had the flexibility with my job that is all I would do.  That would be fantastic!  :D

It is hard to find a woman/girl who is really, deeply passionate about music, enough to go out and see several shows a month and discuss music, etc. If ya'll have friends like that, hold on to 'em....at least until they get married! Only half kidding there...

Then you have to find people from forums like this who are just as wild as you are about the music!! :)
But seein you feels good, and its always understood.
That anything much sweeter would make me die.

Quotejeez welfllet, I get no creds for having a girl's name?

actually, i had this theory that posited that dudes with chick-sounding names (tracy, morgan, jody, etc...) turn into football players, cops or bikers to make up for the parent-inflicted humiliation. it's funny though, because those names started as boys' names. but the toughest bastard i know is a hockey player named jody and he's an a-hole 'cause he got teased for it as a kid...

also... a bit off-topic, but i was watching FX's "rescue me" on dvd and the chick firefighter gets called a "stupid twat" by a fellow firefighter who felt she had put him in danger. my husband says she has no right to cry foul and file a complaint because the guy could have died. *i* say that if he'd called her a "stupid moron" instead of a "twat" it would have all been good. i thought it was unacceptable to attach performance on the job to her gender...
what do you guys think?
everything sucks. really.

is it an american thing to name boys jody etc? i've never seen that here.... its probably more the other way around, with more girls having what would traditionally be "boy" names.... friday brain-drain though, can't seem to think of any examples right now...

wellfleet - i always thought "twat" was just a word for someone who was being stupid (slightly more stupid than being a twit), not actually something you would associate with gender...?
love a song for the way it makes you feel

geez, you sound like ME!!! i've been taking every opportunity (birthdays, christmas etc) to give out mmj cds to my friends in the hope that someone will go nuts about them as much as me.... still trying!

sad, but true.

if only we were all in the same country, it'd be great!!!!

i'll take 74 tracy's please.  with extra fries. :)

my girlfriends like music.  i don't fit in this thread.

and tom, your jokes are getting dangerous and i might have to give you a goddamn smack.  that, my friend, is not a joke.

wellfleet

ali... yeah, twat is a vulgar term for female genitals. i think in north america it would have the same impact of "cunt" whereas in the UK that's used openly to describe a jerk, male or female, i believe...
i dunno... i would definitely be upset if someone called me a twat at work.
then again, last night when i took my husband out for a drink on his birthday, some guy reached and grabbed my right boobie as he was walking out the door and i was walking in. i turned around and punched him between the shoulder blades and uttered a death threat, but was amazed that his friends didn't even react to it... it bummed me out... i'm someone's daughter, sister, wife... would that guy like it if his mom was groped like that?
anyway...
everything sucks. really.

ratsprayer

good god, i cant imagine being so forward as to physically grabbing a woman.  i wont say what my mind thinks in certain instances, but to actually go through with it, thats just another ball game....

im admittedly pretty physically weak, but rest assured if someone did that to my wife, there would be a fight.

dragonboy

Shit Wellfleet, real sorry to hear that.
It happens all the time here in Japan on the trains. The subway in my city has a 'pink car' for ladies only.
Fucking disgraceful  >:(
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

ali

hmmm i'll have to keep that in mind when i eventually visit the US... twat is just how you'd describe someone who's being stupid here. no gender issues, its not really rude at all. crap is probably a stronger word than twat!!!

love a song for the way it makes you feel

ali

wellfleet - that is TERRIBLE!!! i don't understand how some guy could even think that is even remotely acceptable behaviour, or that you wouldn't have a problem with that!

love a song for the way it makes you feel

i'm sorry about that for wellfleet, too.  i'm sorry that japan needs pink cars and that we need a similar system for women travelling alone.

i'm glad you punched him.  should've rammed a baseball bat between his legs, too, and see how he liked "groping".  fuck.

I would have to agree with the thought that girls aren't as into music.  I my personal experience girls just don't dig on it like guys.  Like my ex-girlfriend had a stellar CD collection, but it was all stuff that was burned and given to her by her father and old boyfriends, I myself would burn her cd's all the time at work (all 4 MMJ albums along with Acoustic Citsuoca included).  She would come to shows with me all the time, but it was only when I would introduce the band to her in a way that I knew she would get.

She'd have a blast at the shows, but it always seemed on a different level, and when talking about music she just didn't understand it or have the right vocabulary or something like that.

But then again my good friend Alli has one of the most stellar vinal collections that i have ever seen, and we just kick it and listen to music together all the time.  So who knows what does it...does it for me.
