I used to hear people tell me that all the time, but I kept putting it off. Well....

Last month the old hard drive kicked the bucket (and only after 2 years). It died. 1000's of pictures and song files, plus 100's of videos. Gone. We took it to our computer folks, no dice. They took it to their computer folks, no dice. They told us just about any hard drive is recoverable (good news) and it's hard to get it done under 1K (bad news) but it could be sent off and done. Well, it got done to the tune of $900.

So, if you're thinking about spending a dime or two on a backup drive, I'd go ahead and do it.

That's all.

Sorry to hear about that Tracy. It does duck when the computer goes down.

Target has an nice 320 GB external hard drive for $88 this week in their ad for those interested.

I got a similar drive at Best Buy for a similar price.  It's one thing to go and finally buy the drive (it took me awhile...I've been meaning to do this for close to a year), but quite another to actually take the time to back up your files.  I probably have 40,000 music files on my computer...probably half of them are organized, and I refuse to back anything up until it's organized, because then I'll have to go back and organize the original and the backup.  Needless to say I've been putting it off again.  If I ever lost my music though, I don't know what I would do.  It would take a LONG time to get it all back, between the downloading (legally of course ;) )and ripping all of my CD's again.  Anyway, yeah back up your shit :)
We could.

I just very recently backed up about 100 GBs of music and pictures to data DVDs. It took quite a while, but fortunately, all of it was already organized. That made it much easier.
