Best/Favorite Westerns

Haven't seen the original 3:10 To Yuma but I was really disappointed with the remake...

Glen Ford out-acts Russell Crowe, plain and simple. He makes his version of the character more subtly menacing and sexually creepy. The character development in the remake was full of implausibilities, which aren't there in the original.

BTW, Jack of All Trades is fucking hilarious. Bruce as a swashbuckling masked thief on a French-controlled island. Vern Troyer plays Napoleon.

Ive seen like 3 people at least list The Proposition....I didnt really like that one at all

Maybe it was because I was tired and kind of out of it, but I still dont think it was so good that id check it out again

Wasnt sure what to expect exactly with this, and heard mixed reviews as well. In the end, I enjoyed it a lot. Its not quite a psychological western or a shoot 'em up, but its engaging and effective throughout. Sometimes you dont know when someone is going to raise their firearm or not, but thats part of the suspense and intrigue. I think Viggo Mortensen is 1 of the best actors going (watch Eastern Promises if you think otherwise), and he's good as usual in this, but Ed Harris (as a verbally challenged town marshall who seems sure of himself but needs reassurance) and Jeremy Irons (as a wealthy member of the community who may or may not have killed the previous marshall) are even better. I found the characters interesting and the actors engaging the whole way through, but if the viewer cant, they probably wont enjoy the movie due to limited action. Great scenery (loved 1 towards the end where theyre at some sort of pueblo-ish hotel, sharp cinematography, and I liked the music backing it. If I remember correctly it was written and directed by Ed Harris too.

Pretty small part..Hes 1 of 3 wealthy guys who seem to basically run the town/say what goes. He hires Harris and Mortensen as the law the protect the town from Irons and his gang
