almost 2 AM with T'storms rolling through Nashville, spooking Sparky, got me out of bed.

I should be nice and toasty for my 8 AM meeting.

peace all  :)

In Blackwater Woods by Mary Oliver

Look, the trees
are turning
their own bodies
into pillars
of light,
are giving off the rich
fragrance of cinnamon
and fulfillment,
the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away over
the blue shoulders
of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
name is, is
nameless now.
Every year
everything
I have ever learned
in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side
is salvation,
whose meaning
none of us will ever know.
To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:

to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.

Brings back memories of a weekend we spent at Garden of the Gods in Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois.  We camped at the edge of a cliff overlooking the glacier formed valleys below.  We had consumed some Shiitakes when a huge storm rolled in.  We sat at the edge of the cliffs with our legs dangling in the pitch darkness waiting for lightning to strike.  When it did, it would illuminate the silhouettes of the trees in the valley for a split second before returning to pitch darkness.  In many ways, the most beautiful hour of my life. :)

Sorry it got you up Tracy.
Love thunder. It's sort of hypnotic to me....until all hells breaks loose and sirens are wailing and there is some serious windage.

thunderstorms rolled in right after I was done planting my sweet corn last night. Perfect!
