I come to you in a time of need. This summer, I need to do a project which involves an analysis of a piece of art. I'm looking for the most unique and amazing works of art or artists you know of.

Much obliged.

Also, I remember some time ago, I think it was on this forum that someone posted a website with some incredible art on it. The paintings were dark and grim and I remember there was one painting with wolves? If anyone remembers what artist that was, it would be appreciated.

Here's the link to that thread about the paintings below. It's hard to recommend artists to people who don't know much about art (witch i'm only assuming) because there are so many different styles of painting. Surrealism is probably the most interesting to analyze so maybe you could start there, in that case look up Salvador Dali. Personally, Dali and Van Gogh are my favorite artists.

The name of the painter is in this thread, I think his art would be a great subject to write about.

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

well I very much enjoy Stefan Sagmeister- it's more graphic arts than fine arts but he is an interesting fellow with unique work.  here is a couple short videos which i love:

I really like John Craig.  He does collage art, both digital and "traditional."   He did the cover for the Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

I'll have to post about another when I get home.  My roommate has this book of really dark, weird, alien-looking stuff that I thought was pretty cool...Geiger maybe?
We could.

If you're looking for crazy and weird look no further than "Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch!

Don't forget about Captain Beefheart.  He is reveered (sp?) as one of America's most profound painters.

Agreed- i don't feel like this kind of work is impressive (it may not be meant to be) I do appreciate the emotion of it, its almost spontaneous in its creation.  The problem- this style has been done and redone so much that the emotion almost gets lost.
