Ok. Looks like it's not going to be a big deal to renew. It asked if I wanted to import the settings from last year's league or create custom settings. So what do you guys think?

I'll go back and renew it once we figure out what we want to do with it.

aMillionDreams

I would go ahead and renew.  You can always change the settings later.  I vote for team DEF

We're renewed. You guys should be getting notifications.

This is the date I entered for the draft. Of course, it can change if we need it to:
Thu Aug 27 6:00pm CDT

I'm not so sure about DEF players, seems like a crap shoot.  Maybe one league could use team DEF and the other not.

Team D is actually more hit or miss IMO even if you have a good one. Plus, I dont think the scoring system for it is all that great, i.e. you D could give up 6 points put only get you like 5 fantasy points.

If you have LB's who annually amass a lot of tackles, DE's who get a lot of sacks, etc., theyre pretty consistent. Its much less of a crapshoot than Team D. The first year I played in my buddy's league I didnt like the idea of it, but now I never play Team D if its up to me.

My point is that if you have a decent DEF you can count on about 5-20 points from that category each week.  However, even if you have a great DE like Osi, there's going to be 4 or 5 games when he gets no points.  I don't know what the scoring is like for individual DEF but if Osi explodes for 6 sacks, which he's capable of, that's probably a lot of points. I just hate for each week to hinge of whether or not maybe DEF has a good week. Plus, it screws up my drafting strategy!

5-20 points is a big point range  ;D

I almost never take DE's because of what you said and LB's are included in the DLine category, so its not mandatory to have a DE on your roster. Your example of 6 sacks is fairly unrealistic, but if thats what he got and only that, in my money league's scoring that would equate to 27 points (and if he forced a fumble, more than that).

If youre starting 2 starter-worthy LBs and a DB who gets tackles, youre probably getting 15-20 points at worst with a normal ceiling of 30-35.

Drafting strategy is minimal (basically like team D - the best guys will start to go after your offensive starters are filled, good IDPs a few rounds after), and every year there are always guys who come out of nowhere and can be gotten off the WW. Guys like Barrett Ruud, Chad Greenway, and Jerod Mayo are perfect examples. Where people go wrong in fantasy with IDP's is going by name and thinking Urlacher or Derrick Brooks would be great, however those 3 guys I named are all better fantasy wise.

I think anyone who has played with IDP's before will agree with me on this. Im not trying to sway you, just inform you. I find IDP's to be a lot more fun too. I find myself actually switching to games on DirecTV during commercials etc. just because I have a LB on that team  ;D  I think most fantasy guys do this with WRs, RBs, etc, but having a guy on a defense has become the same thing for me. I thinked I switched to as many Lions games as Saints games last year, just to watch Megatron and Jonathan Vilma.

There's no enjoyment in Team D for me, I enjoy picking/paying attention to kickers more than fantasy team defenses. If youre as hardcore fantasy football as you seem, I think youd like having defensive players.

In the league I commish I added special teams categories to team DEF so you get points for return yards and special teams TDs.  That makes it more interesting.  I have a hard time believing that your team DEF getting a pick-six means nothing to you.  I also imagine it's easier to score a pick-six when you have a whole team playing for you.

But I've never done it so maybe I just fear change. It sounds interesting but changes the face of our league.  What does everyone else think?

Ruckus

I'm with you AMD in that I've actually never played with IDPs though many of my friends have.  They seem to enjoy it a lot.  But that's neither here nor there because I'm not in the league.

Corey,

Please PM me with league info if there is an open spot.

Thanks :)

I'm kinda liking the idea of a single DEF player. There's my $.02.

Was there someone else in line to get in our league? I need to check. If not, then Ruckus is in.

EDIT: I just read back through the last several pages. Ruckus was first in line. Since K isn't on the board anymore, I'll send you the info.

Also, when it gets closer to time, we'll probably need to start a separate thread about the Fantasy league so that people that want to actually discuss football don't have to read through all of our BS about the fantasy league.  :)

I don't see the appeal of doing just one defensive player.  That really seems like a crap shoot.  If we do it i think we ought to go all out.

Capt almost has me convinced. If you all want to do it, I'm down.

I agree. Ive played 3 IDP's in every league Ive done it in, and if we do IDP's I say do 3 (although I wouldnt be opposed to 1 more either).

The 3 fantasy positions Ive always used are: DL, LB, and DB.

DLine includes DE's, DT's, NT's, and LB's. You could make it just D (a defensive flex instead), but no one will start more than the necessary DB's in all liklihood, so its pointless.

I think it's all BS, she's just trying to get some money.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Yeah True, I think it's BS. I really don't think any pro has to work at getting some.

I'm getting excited for Farve to come to camp. Training camp is held here in Mankato, and I'm sure there will be a media circus.  8-)

I don't know what to think of the whole Favre thing.  In a way I want him to come back, because it would just make the division that much more interesting...but, Sage Rosenfels is from my home town so I really wanna see him play too.  I think if he was given a whole season to start he would turn into a really solid QB.  He's been really solid as a backup, besides a few bonehead plays.
We could.

Vick to the Eagles. This hasn't been discussed yet.

Also... for aMD, are you watching the Bengals on Hard Knocks on HBO?  b

No! I don't have HBO right now and it's killing me.  Tell me everything!  Please!

I saw a trailer online and it looked good and bad.  The preseason game is a bit of the same.   I don't know what will happen this year but it WILL be interesting.

It's interesting so far. I figured they'd spend a good deal of time discussing Palmer and his injury from last year and trying to come back from that, but they didn't.
They talked about the horrible year the team had and stuff like that. Spent about 5 minutes (maybe a little less) discussing how Andre Smith still wasn't in camp*. They detailed Ocho Cinco's obsession with Twitter and Ustream and he gave an explanation of "Child, Please" for the folks that don't know what it means. :)

*I'm really pissed off about this. Rookies need some sort of salary cap so they can't go in making demands when they haven't proven themselves in the pros. It's really frustrating to watch. He's a Bama boy and I want to see him do well, but he's acting like a baby.
