Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know your partll go fine.
Fly down to mexico.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-n-da-da and here I am,
The only living boy in new york.
I get the news I need on the weather report.
I can gather all the news I need on the weather report.
Hey, Ive got nothing to do today but smile.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da here I am
The only living boy in new york

Half of the time were gone but we dont know where,
And we dont know here.

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know youve been eager to fly now.
Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da
Like it shines on me
The only living boy in new york,
The only living boy in new york.

I was at a friend's house the other night and was sitting around waiting on her to get ready so that we could go out. Her TV was turned to the E! channel, which I guess is like 24-hour-bullshit-celebrity news. Anyway, I saw this E! station promo that featured the slogan "This revolution WILL be televised."

Nice. Kudos, E! I mean, everyone knows that the pertinence of who Lindsay Lohan is drinking lattes with is far superior than that of dated ideas like "equality" and "peace." Good job on realizing that cheapening valid and meaningful social statements is the key to commercial success. Gold star for you.

Ugh. Sarcasm aside, seeing that commercial pissed me off. Like... a lot.  :-[

 :) :) :) :) :)(this song makes me want to hug everyone)  :) :) :) :) :)

Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin'
Everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day.

Runnin' down the avenue,
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today.

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long where did we go wrong.

Hey there Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you.

Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race
A celebration Mr. Blue Sky's
Up there waitin' and today
Is the day we've waited for

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long where did we go wrong.

Hey there Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you.

Mr. Blue you did it right,
But soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin' over, now his
Hand is on your shoulder,
Never mind I'll remember you this way.

Mr. T.

To Beat The Devil

A couple of years back, I come across a great and wasted friend of mine in the hallway of a recording studio; and while he was reciting some poetry to me that he'd written, I saw that he was about a step away from dyin' and I couldn't help but wonder why.
And the lines of this song occurred to me. I'm happy to say he's no longer wasted and he's got him a good woman. And I'd like to dedicate this to John and June, who helped show me how to beat the devil.

It was winter time in Nashville, down on music city row.
And I was lookin' for a place to get myself out of the cold.
To warm the frozen feelin' that was eatin' at my soul.
Keep the chilly wind off my guitar.

My thirsty wanted whisky; my hungry needed beans,
But it'd been of month of paydays since I'd heard that eagle scream.
So with a stomach full of empty and a pocket full of dreams,
I left my pride and stepped inside a bar.

Actually, I guess you'd could call it a Tavern:
Cigarette smoke to the ceiling and sawdust on the floor;
Friendly shadows.

I saw that there was just one old man sittin' at the bar.
And in the mirror I could see him checkin' me and my guitar.
An' he turned and said: "Come up here boy, and show us what you are."
I said: "I'm dry." He bought me a beer.

He nodded at my guitar and said: "It's a tough life, ain't it?"
I just looked at him. He said: "You ain't makin' any money, are you?"
I said: "You've been readin' my mail."
He just smiled and said: "Let me see that guitar.
"I've got something you oughta hear."
Then he laid it on me:

"If you waste your time a-talkin' to the people who don't listen,
"To the things that you are sayin', who do you think's gonna hear.
"And if you should die explainin' how the things that they complain about,
"Are things they could be changin', who do you think's gonna care?"

There were other lonely singers in a world turned deaf and blind,
Who were crucified for what they tried to show.
And their voices have been scattered by the swirling winds of time.
'Cos the truth remains that no-one wants to know.

Well, the old man was a stranger, but I'd heard his song before,
Back when failure had me locked out on the wrong side of the door.
When no-one stood behind me but my shadow on the floor,
And lonesome was more than a state of mind.

You see, the devil haunts a hungry man,
If you don't wanna join him, you got to beat him.
I ain't sayin' I beat the devil, but I drank his beer for nothing.
Then I stole his song.

And you still can hear me singin' to the people who don't listen,
To the things that I am sayin', prayin' someone's gonna hear.
And I guess I'll die explaining how the things that they complain about,
Are things they could be changin', hopin' someone's gonna care.

I was born a lonely singer, and I'm bound to die the same,
But I've got to feed the hunger in my soul.
And if I never have a nickle, I won't ever die ashamed.
'Cos I don't believe that no-one wants to know.
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Hey good looking, why the frown?
You always look better when it's upside down
You say you got nowhere that you're going to
Can I go nowhere with you?

I took the Dartmouth Ferry into the town,
Spent my pennies bumming around,
Tryin' to find a way to tear a strip off these boots,
Can I go nowhere with you?

Paid the cover, saw the show,
Sat at the bar where the drinks did flow.
Didn't see a single face that I knew,
'Till I went nowhere with you.

Can I tag along tonight?
We'll kill some time, it looks like you might
need a little company,
I'm so cheap I might as well be free.

Hey good looking, why the frown?
You always look better when it's upside down
You say you got nowhere that you're going to
Can I go nowhere with you?

nananana...
Can I go nowhere with you?
nananana...
Can I go nowhere with you?

Can I tag along tonight?
We'll kill some time, it looks like you might
need a little company,
I'm so cheap I might as well be free.

whoa whoa whoa whoa!

If you feel tired and want to go home,
I'm still wired, I can go it alone,
Same time next week at a quarter past ten?
And we can go nowhere again.
If you show up then, then you know I will too,
Can I go nowhere with...

Hey good looking, why the frown?
You always look better when it's upside down
You say you got nowhere that you're going to
Can I go nowhere with you?

naananana...(hey good looking)
Can I go nowhere with you?

You gonna look fine
Be primed for dancing
You're gonna trip and glide
All on the trembling plane
Your diamond hands
Will be stacked with roses
And wind and cars
And people of the past

I'll call you thing
Just when the moon sings
And place your face in stone
Upon the hill of stars
And gripped in the arms
Of the changeless madman
We'll dance our lives away
In the Ballrooms of Mars

You talk about day
I'm talking 'bout night time
When the monsters call out
The names of men
Bob Dylan knows
And I bet Alan Freed did
There are things in night
That are better not to behold

You dance
With your lizard leather boots on
And pull the strings
That change the faces of men
You diamond browed hag
You're a gutter-gaunt gangster
John Lennon knows your name
And I've seen his
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

The wicked king of clubs awoke
It was to his queen turned
His lips were laughing as they spoke
His eyes like bullets burned
The suns upon a gambling day
His queen smiled low and blissfully
Lets make some wretched fool to play
Plain it was she did agree

He send his deuce down into diamond
His four to hart, and his trey to spade
Three kings with their legions come
Preparations soon where made
They voted club the days commander
Gave him an army face and number
All but the outlaw jack of diamonds
And the aces in the sky

He give his sevens first instructions
Spirit me a game of stud
Stakes unscarred by limitation
tween a man named gold and man named mud
Club filled gold with greedy vapors
til his long, green eyes did glow
Mud was left with the sighs and trembles
Watching his hard earned money go

Flushes fell on gold like water
Tens they paired and paired again
But the aces only flew through heaven
And the diamond jack called no man friend
The diamond queen saw muds ordeal
Began to think of her long lost son
Fell to her knees with a mothers mercy
Prayed to the angels every one

The diamond queen, she prayed and prayed
And the diamond angel filled muds hole
The wicked king of clubs himself
Fell in face down in front of gold
Now three kings come to clubs command
But the angels from the sky did ride
Three kings up on the streets of gold
Three fireballs on the muddy side

The club queen heard her husbands call
But lord that queen of diamonds joy
When the outlaw in the heavenly hall
Turned out to be a wandering boy
Now mud he checked and gold bet all
And mud he raised and gold did call
And the smile just melted off his face
When mud turned over that diamond ace

Now heres what this storys told
If you feel like mud youll end up gold
If you feel like lost, youll end up found
So amigo, lay them raises down

i know he's talking about Minnesota.

If you're traveling in the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was the true love of mine.

If you go when the snowflakes storm
When the rivers freeze and summer ends
Please see if she's a coat so warm
To keep her from the howlin' winds.

Please see if her hair hangs long
If it rolls and flows all down her breast
Please see from me if her hair hangs long
That's the way I remember her best.

I'm a-wonderin' if she remember me at all
Many times I've often prayed
In the darkness of my night
In the brightness of my day.

So if you're travelin' in the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine.
Much Greater Than Science Fiction

I was slipping through the cracks
Of a stolen jewel
I was tightrope
Walking in two ton shoes
Now somebody is talking about a
Third world war
And the police said this was normal control
And the candle was burning yesterday
Like somebody's best friend died
And I've been caught in a mind riot
I was crying from my eye teeth and
Bleeding from my soul
And I sharpened my wits on a dead man's skull
I built an elevator from his bones
Had to climb to the top floor just
To stamp out the coals
And the candle was burning yesterday
Like somebody's best friend died
And I've been caught in a mind riot
I'm tied within
I'm luck's last match struck
In the pouring down wind
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

LABYRINTHIAN POMP by OF MONTREAL
how you wanna drag my style
I am so superior
how you wanna hate a thing
when you are so inferior

how you wanna mess
how you wanna mess
my spotless interim

let's just say
you are not the destroyer

I got my bright girl near me
she's so much taller
with a crisp endorsement
from the CCAA booty patrol

she's a meta reference and all
shares my strange urge to smash a window
on every house on our block

delinquent days are here again...

how you wanna drag my style
I am so superior
how you wanna hate a thing
when you are so inferior

how you wanna mess
how you wanna mess
my spotless interim

oh, oh
let's just say
you are not the destroyer

I got my Georgie Fruit on
he's a dark mutation
from my demented past-time
giving replicators somewhere to go

but we're authentic
you can test my talent
against your cursive body

the controller's fears have disappeared
and it hurts

delinquent days are here again...

(I'd just lke to disappear forever, but
I'm not afraid)

this de Gaulle's for everyone
1, 2 gods for the beast
and our dead, oh
ah, deflates our edge on latitude
on one degree I trusted you
no, don't explain

moving in plaid tempos
making sad dreams of the flag appearing
crazy how the symbolism works
don't look at them

Up in the morning
Work like a dog
Is better than sitting
Like a bump on a log
Mind all your manners
Be quiet as a mouse
Some day you'll own a home
That's as big as a house

I know a fella
He eats like a horse
Knocks his old balls
Round the old golf course
You oughta see his wife
She's a cute little dish
She smokes like a chimney
And drinks like a fish

There's a big old goofy man
Dancing with a big old goofy girl
Ooh baby
It's a big old goofy world

Now Elvis had a woman
With a head like a rock
I wished I had a woman
That made my knees knock
She'd sing like an angel
And eat like a bird
And if I wrote a song
She'd know ever single word

Kiss a little baby
Give the world a smile
If you take an inch
Give 'em back a mile
Cause if you lie like a rug
And you don't give a damn
You're never gonna be
As happy as a clam

So I'm sitting in a hotel
Trying to write a song
My head is just as empty
As the day is long
Why it's clear as a bell
I should have gone to school
I'd be wise as an owl
Stead of stubborn as a mule.

Without further adieu, I present to you my favourite song of the past few years:

Years from now, they will make water from the reservoirs of our idiot tempers.
Soon enough, work and love will make a man out of you.  Through and through.
Your gentleman father would pray for a daughter, as he walked from room to room saying, "Women are winning the tournament of hearts.  Somebody's got to lose..."
Soon enough, work and love will make a man out of you.  Through and through.

You Make Loving Fun
Fleetwood Mac

Sweet wonderful you,
You make me happy with the things you do,
Oh, can it be so?
This feeling follows me wherever I go.

I never did believe in miracles,
But I've a feeling it's time to try,
I never did believe in the ways of magic,
But I'm beginning to wonder why.

Don't, don't break the spell,
It would be different and you know it will,
You, you make loving fun,
And I don't have to tell you,
But you're the only one.

You make loving fun.
You make loving fun.

I dedicated this here jam to someone extra-special while at work today...  ;)

(See, I told you I would...) :D

Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
If you said goodbye to me tonight
There would still be music left to write
What else could I do
Im so inspired by you
That hasnt happened for the longest time

Once I thought my innocence was gone
Now I know that happiness goes on
Thats where you found me
When you put your arms around me
I havent been there for the longest time

Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest
Im that voice youre hearing in the hall
And the greatest miracle of all
Is how I need you
And how you needed me too
That hasnt happened for the longest time

Maybe this wont last very long
But you feel so right
And I could be wrong
Maybe Ive been hoping too hard
But Ive gone this far
And its more than I hoped for

Who knows how much further well go on
Maybe Ill be sorry when youre gone
Ill take my chances
I forgot how nice romance is
I havent been there for the longest time

I had second thoughts at the start
I said to myself
Hold on to your heart
Now I know the woman that you are
Youre wonderful so far
And its more than I hoped for

I dont care what consequence it brings
I have been a fool for lesser things
I want you so bad
I think you ought to know that
I intend to hold you for the longest time

This goes out to Brad and Meg

Here we are, the two of us together
Takin' this crazy chance to be all alone
We both know that we should not be together
'Cause if we're found out, it could mess up
Both our happy homes

I hate to think about us all meeting up together
'Cause as soon as I look at you it will show on my face, yeah
Then they'll know that we've been loving each other
We can't let 'em know, no, no, no
We can't leave a trace

Secret lovers, yeah, that's what we are
We should not be together
But we can't let go, no, no
'Cause we love each other so

Ooh...ooh...

Sittin' at home, I do nothin' all day
But I think about you and hope that you're okay
Hopin' you'll call before anyone gets home
I wait anxiously alone by the phone

How could something so wrong be so right
I wish we didn't have to keep our love out of sight, yeah
Living two lives just ain't easy at all
But we gotta hang on in there or fall

Secret lovers, yeah, that's what we are
We should not be together
But we can't let go, no, no
'Cause we love each other so

Secret lovers, yeah, that's what we are
Tryin' so hard to hide the way we feel
'Cause we both belong to someone else
But we can't let go
'Cause what we feel is, oh, so real
So real, so real

You and me, are we friends
Is this cool or do we care
Can they tell what's in our minds
Maybe they've had secret loves all of the time

In the middle of making love we notice the time
We both get nervous 'cause it's way after nine
Even though we hate it, we know it's time that we go
We gotta be careful so that no one will know

Secret lovers, yeah, that's what we are
Trying so hard to hide the way we feel
'Cause we both belong to someone else
But we can't let go
'Cause what we feel is, oh, so real
So real, so real, so real, so real

thanks for the dedication.  ;)

among other things, i have been on a john lennon kick lately...

So sgt. Pepper took you by surprise
You better see right through that mother's eyes
Those freaks was right when they said you was you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head
How do you sleep?
Ah how do you sleep at night?

You live with straights who tell you you was king
Jum when your mamma tell you anything
The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you've gone it's just another day
How do you sleep?
Ah how do you sleep at night?

A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something all those years
How do you sleep?
Ah how do you sleep at night?

Many lights up today
Many lights up this way

What is this road here,
Where have I come?

I am a rich man
I am a very rich man
I have good pants on
Stitched and stitched;
I am in stitches
I am laughing at you
I am in britches

I've written books for you
I held my own for you
Where is my tongue?

I am no more workhorse
I am no more workhorse
I am no more workhorse
I am no more workhorse

I am a grazing horse
I am a grazing horse
I am your favorite horse
I was a big old bear once.
