since last year, before any word of tour there was like 5,500ish registered members of the forum.  now there are like 7,036 or something.  pretty awesome increase for such a short amount of time.
good work forum, you are a beast.

Well, it goes back to my question in another thread about whether MMJ are getting more popular or not.

My gut was no, based on low profile, no album in 2 yrs, etc.... but your data point there is an interesting one.

It's hard to say. They've gotten very little buzz on the various music blogs I check in on in response to the current tour/performances, but seem to be getting a lot of press in local newspapers.

Perhaps that's an audience thing and MMJ is moving more towards an AAA/Adult Contemporary demographic, but then again, the influx of assholes at shows seems to indicate otherwise

Or, the online mags I check in on are too busy obsessing over the new MGMT and other derivative acts to give a shit about anything that doesn't incorporate a heavy synth in the background or go on rambling emotional tirades to sleepy boring music.

maybe 5000 to 7000 members just indicates old geezers (myself included at 40) are getting more familiar with forums, not that the fanbase is growing!

I laugh at these conversations about assholes at shows.   I've seen Tool 5 or 6 times.   Now THAT crowd has idiots.

Like I said in the other asshole discussion, I think for me it's a tie between QOTSA and Ween for worst fans.

I'm no science or physics major, but can something really blow up slowly?

Jim brings all his love, passion, energy and mystery to the stage and says, "I'm right here."

Badass. Does that answer your question Mr. Smarty Pants?

I thought that stuff was pretty cool.  It reminds me of the television show Time Warp.  I especially liked the pineapple.

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Low profile with MMJ, but maybe Monsters of Folk made some people look up MMJ?  ::)

I had two seperate friends tell me that they d/led mmj's discography after seeing the american dad episode. This is after I told them for years that mmj was the shit. They didn't listen to me, but did listen to a cartoon. I'm sure the show introduced mmj to a ton more people than their actual music.

Well, I dunno. Although it was cool seeing the clock, mug o' beer, birthday cake, baked goose, fax machine, laptop, alarm clock, plate of corn dogs & tots, cell phone/charger, heart shaped pillow, pineapple, can o' beer, root beer float, Starship Enterprise, porcelain rooster, stuffed cocker spaniel, puppy in a hat, chihuahua in a bag, trophy, and stuffed bear get blown up, I am under the suspicion that the art of slow motion camerary is to balme for such blowing up in a slow fashion. Which leads me back to my original question:

Can something blow up slowly?

Maybe this place is erupting?

I would go with erupting.

We need to start a seperate YouTube thread just for video of slow motion explosions/eruptions.  Pretty cool, but I guess that it could get old.

Indeed and I think this chart from google trend confirms that theory:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=my+morning+jacket&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0

With the search volume index being higher after the appearance on the show. Then again, might be something else, but looks like American Dad helped  ::)

it's an interesting question.  The first correlation that comes to mind when thinking deeply about the phrase "slowly blowing up" is either a.) a Balloon, or b.) a Penis.

You can blow both of those up slowly if you feel like it.

This is time lapse but I don't give a fuck this movie blew my mind once.  It made me convinced humans are in fact a herpe destroying mother earth:

it gets awesome at like 1:55 when the clouds part starts.

QuoteOn the topic of slow-motion explosive awesome:

The first 30 seconds of Apollo 11 expanded into 8 1/2 minutes

That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

SBB, you are on fire!  I thought I was bad!  Are you a computer?  Are you Karen, Plankton's wife?  Quick, find me a picture of a duck on the back of a dog.  You have 2 hours...
