QuoteYeah, the elliptical is my second choice besides running. It's what saved my life. I dropped over 50 lbs from March 2000 to June 2001 by running like a possessed demon on one.

Playlist is done. Contains the following artists. I have my time goal and I have Dondante playing when I hope to cross the finish line.

The Go! Team
Arctic Monkeys
Awesome Color
Baroness
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Buckethead
Clutch
Dead Confederate
Electric Six
helmet
Jane's Addiction
Kasabian
Manic Street Preachers
MMJ
Massive Attack
NIN
Ministry
Pantera
Soundgarden

50 LBs whoa!  I have seen the speed demons on the eliptical, and so far I am not one of them - but maybe I will consider stepping it up a bit.

Nice playlist, and hope Dondante comes through for you - but either way, just crossing that finish line will be such a major major major accomplishment!

Well, the 2010 Jailbreak Triathalon is in the books.  We finished 13th out of 21, but had a great time.  I finished in 1:57 and my teammate came in at 2:20.  My splits were something like this (including transitions):

3.5 mile canoe: 50 minutes
8 mile mountain bike: 47 minutes
2.5 mile trail run: 20 minutes

I had a mechanical issue somewhere around mile 5 with my bike and essentially only had 3 gears (one of which is not even practical for trail riding), which was a real let down.  I pushed (literally, at times) through it, but I'm sure that it cost me a few minutes, which would've put us in the top 10.  Oh well.  We still had a great time.

Final observation: Canoeing sober is weird.

50F is cold? I see folks riding bikes and/or jogging in -10F weather on a yearly basis, although I think they are nuts.

picture 4 posts up was taken in low 40's temp. Unless there is a shit ton of snow and ice out, I'm running outside. I am one of those crazy ones. If it's -10, even I have the sense to stay inside though. Your bits are going to freeze off.

Running on cold winter days is one thing, but riding a bike is crazy given your tires can freeze and the roads are icy and/or covered in snow.

Riding a bike is just crazy to begin with. I have no faith in my abilities to stay upright.

Bike tune up, ultra reflective jacket with a flashing tailbone light, gloves, and a new pump. Bring it on!

Sweet.

I changed up my running yesterday with an interval workout.  It was about a 1+ minute uphill sprint (HR at 185+) and a jog (HR recovered back to 130s) back to the bottom.  Rinse and repeat.  Intervals are tough, but effective.

I have decided to pass on the half marathon to go to a mountain bike race instead.  It is an 8 hour endurance event, but I'm going with the 4 hour solo class instead.  This should be interesting.

I've played 7 hockey games now since my comeback after a 16-year layoff. And what I've noticed is (other than knowing it'll take a long time to work off 16-years of rink-rust) that when you are younger, hockey is a fun and completive sport, but when you are considerably older, it turns into a grueling anaerobic cardio workout. Hey, at least I've scored 3 goals so far.

QuoteDid my 3 miles today (with no stops) Yay!  My 5k is on 10/6!  Feeling encouraged, and wishing mjk and penny best wishes and good running weather!!!
You got it in the bag babe!

Making my plans for post race recovery to avoid injuries and depression, which apparently can set in. Taking a week off from running. I'll be walking a few days and then towards the end of the week start hitting the elliptical. Also, I'm popping Airborne like chiclets this week.

How is thte post race recovery going?  back on the eliptical today!  that was fun!

All I did from Monday to today was eat and sit on my ass due to working 12 hours almost everyday. I did get out and run 4 miles this morning. It felt good but my hammies are a little touchy right now. Hope to get a good nights rest and get a nice run in tomorrow (around 8 miles).
