Steelers trade Holmes to Jets! I don't get the reasoning, it says in the article that it wasn't Holmes who threw that glass. And all we get is a 5th round pick!

That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

The reasoning is Tone isnt a "Steelers guy". Considering he apparently just failed the league drug test (im guessing for hippie lettuce), he's almost certainly going to get a 4 game suspension. With all of this swirling around him being in a contract year, rumor was the Steelers were wary of giving him a LTC and expected him to demand more per year than they felt he was worth.

With all that said, I have been pretty pissed about this ever since I heard about. A few friends I texted as soon as I heard about this all thought I was lying because of how suddenly it happened and that we only got a 5th. Even despite his off the field issues, Im amazed we couldnt get at least a 3rd round pick for him. If a team like the Jets who already have Cotchery and Edwards were willing to give up a 5th for him, youre telling me someone in more need of a WR wouldnt make a better offer?! If it does in fact turn out to only be a 5th round pick, IMO this smells like the Steelers jumping the gun on getting rid of him and not trying to get more in return. Rooney & Colbert: you better get your shit together for the draft and fumbling on this deal.

Ruckus - enjoy Tone!

I got a Tone jersey his rookie year and would have been stuck without a current player's jersey, but ironically I also bought a Antwaan Randle El jersey his rookie year, so now that he's back in da Burgh, so Im still good. ;D

I don't know what to think of this deal.  I fear that we think we are so close to being a Super Bowl contender that we are straying from a long term plan.  That said, whether I really believe that Holmes will help or not, it will help to consolidate and narrow down our needs in the draft.  I guess it makes more sense for Cotch to move to the slot.  Shoot, he's slower than Chrebet in his 30s.

The Dolphins are finally making moves again.  They just got Brandon Marshall for two second round picks.  We need a big receiver with good hands
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

Really?! Youre not sure? I think he instantly becomes your #1 WR.  I dont know why you wouldnt be ecstatic about this deal. Its basically no risk since all you gave up was a 5th round pick and likely big reward assuming you re-sign him. I think his biggest issues are disappearing during games, dropped balls, and most of all just being inconsistent. However, he has Top 15 WR talent and when he's on, Holmes is one of the best playmakers in the league.

Im still angry about this trade and if we take a WR in the 1st round I'll be even moreso

Just another thing that shows we got hosed on the Santonio Holmes deal by only getting a 5th round pick. I think Marshall is undoubtedly a better WR, and wont be missing the first 4 games of the year (although when the Holmes deal was trying to be made teams werent aware of this), but theyre the same age, in the last year of their contract, and Marshall makes 4 times more money than Holmes this year.

Damnit.

By the sound of Art Rooney's press conference that just ended, we arent going to be trading Roeth...thank god

I'm not blinded by black and gold my friend.  Holmes is kinda of your does everything pretty well receiver.  He's OK, but he doesn't blow me away.  Mind you, any receiver in that system since Ben has gotten comfortable has done quite well.  Also, I don't place much value WRs, particularly douchebag, OSU/Steeler receivers.

I just have to accept him but I'm a Cotchery man thru and thru.  He will not be the reason that we either flame out or make it to the Super Bowl.

Well, I just became quarter owner in season tickets for New England!  A friend of my sister's moved to NC and we're taking them over!  I've got two games, not sure which one's yet.  I went to last season's home opener, a Monday night game against Buffalo that was a real nail biter.  Something to look forward to after the spring and summer concert seasons...  FOOTBALL!

I dont think he'd be the reason the Jets have a dropoff this year, but he very well could be a key in getting to the super bowl. He was instrumental in the Steelers conference run and winning it in SB XLIII

He probably wont put up huge numbers for the Jets unless they really take the reins off Sanchez, but he was 7th in the league in receiving yards. Id say he does a few things better than "pretty well"

Me too, but it starts smack in the middle of my southeast MMJ tour, so I'll read about it later.  The 2010 NFL schedule comes out 2 hours before showtime in Birmingham.

Always interesting to see what the Pats come up with.  So, Cap'n, you a Jets fan, eh?  Hmmmm.  I guess this could get interesting.

I'll warn you now, I'm a Pats fan, but not a details guy.  I enjoy watching any game and all, but I don't care about stats or follow players too closely.  I used to play, blew my chance to play college with an injury.  I've been a NE fan since I was born, but will be the first to admit that, along with the dynasty tag the Pats have made some mistakes.

Anyway, I can't get into this now.  Soon enough...

Yac, I think you need to be in our MMJ Fans fantasy football league. We have an open spot if you want in.

Sorry, Cap'n.  I scoured the thread and saw a lot of references to the Jets in your posts.

Sorry, Ruckus, that you're a Jets fan.  ;)

I agree with you that it likely improves our team but somewhat nominally if you ask me.  Like you and True said, for a 5th rounder it's a good deal.  I just don't want any assclowns on my team.

Wow, Lions make another stupid move. Traded pro bowl caliber OLB Ernie Sims to Philly for a 7th round pick and Tony Scheffler (after drafting TE Brandon Pettigrew in the 1st last year). Denver got a 5th round pick.

Why cant the Stillers land guys like Sims for middle round picks?!

So are you silly fish sticking with Henne.  Are they really interested in Shebow like I'm hearing?  Is Marshall gonna be a bitch about them running too much wildcat?  The AFC Beast.  Again the best division in football.
