Congrats to the Hawks. My Pens really gotta make some changes next year. I thought Bylsma getting fired was first in line but he got extended  :undecided:

Also, I was shocked Ovechkin got the Hart over Crosby. Ovechkin had about 1 good month of hockey. Sid I think was still leading the league in points going into the final week. Whenever he was one the ice, regular season and post, Crosby was clearly the better player this year.

What about Kane winning the Conn Smythe? I don't think he deserved it. Odds on favourite was Crawford, but Keith was my pick (and Toews really played well down the stretch, injured as he was).

BTW, according to Sportsnet in Toronto, Bergeron was playing with broken ribs, a separated shoulder and torn ligaments.

I honestly did not watch a second of the cup finals, so I couldnt say. Being swept by your B's left far too bitter a taste in my mouth. If we lost in 6 or 7 games, alright, but that was a frustrating series that I didnt expect to be over so quickly.

Well, you missed a dandy. After just two games, the hit total was over 200. Bone-crunching back-and-forth series between two evenly matched - and generally likeable -teams that can do it all.

I think Kane felt the same way.  He said he thought the trophy should have gone to Crawford in the post game interview.  To Kane's credit, he did pretty much carry the Hawks past LA in the semis.  Toews didn't really show up until the Finals.  Kieth was freaking awesome though but it's tough for a defenseman to win it.  Sharp was the one I thought would get it until he kind of disappeared in the Finals.

And props to Bergeron.  Hard to imagine what he could have done had he been even close to 100%.  He was a thorn in the Hawks side even with all of those injuries?!  What a gutsy performance by him...

Reports say that Bergeron played with a punctured lung. Toews was really hurt throughout most of the playoffs. Horton played with a separated shoulder. Nothing beats the NHL playoffs, with all due respect to March Madness.

Happy Hockey Day, my hockeybros.

I caught most of the Habs-Leafs and Jets-Oilers games last night. Missed the Pirates-Reds wild card last night. Cheering for Votto's Reds, but GO PITT!! Gotta love October sports!

Ugh, last seasons implosion by the Pens still has a bitter taste in my mouth. It feels like it was only a month ago, Im not even in the mood for hockey yet almost.

Already off to a blazing start with Vokoun out 3-6 months with a blood clot condition.

Steven Stamkos taken off the ice today with a suspected broken leg. Terrible news for the Lightning, NHL and Team Canada's upcoming Olympic team. Stamkos is having another great year as are the Lightning, and was already pencilled in as Crosby's centre man for Team Canada.

joey_rogo

Just saw it. Ugh.

Stamkos is one of those superstars that is almost universally liked. Shame to see him go down. Looks like he'll be out for a while too. Best of luck to him.

Completely selfish of me to say, but this fucks my fantasy team.

And selfish of me to worry about Team Canada, although "we" are really solid at centre. Goalies? Well, that's another matter.

Stamkos wouldve centered Crosby? I figured it wouldve been the other way around since Crosby is the better assist guy and Stamkos the scorer.

Cant say Im sad for Stamkos for Team USA's Olympic hopes

Stamkos thinks he'll be ready for the Olympics.

On an aside, Canada, Canadian heritage and the hockey world are still reeling over last week's coup by Rogers Sportnet with its $5.2 billion purchase of exclusive NHL rights. The network will now control CBC's Hockey Night in Canada for four years, then the iconic show may be cut loose. TSN will be eventually left out in the cold after this season. Sucks. Sportsnet is #3 in quality.

Hank signed for 7 years.... 8.5M per....

VERY happy to have resigned him... not sure how I feel about the terms. He is probably the one Ranger I could not handle seeing in another sweater so this is a net positive for me.

The US-Russia game this morning was great. I feel bad for Americans that can 't watch the Olympics live.  NBC sucks! The CBC, TSN and Sportsnet broadcast 20 hours a day of live Olympic coverage.

Personally, I'm not watching it live even though I can if I wanted to.  Having a dvr makes it easy for me to not feel the need to wake up at 7:30 on a Saturday and Sunday morning to just to watch a game live.  Btw, I made sure I sequestered myself so I didn't know the outcome of the USA/Russia game...

I think the NBC sports channel (formally Versus) is showing the games live. The quarter-finals are tomorrow morning. The US looks strong as they are at least gelling faster/playing to their potential compared to sluggish starts by the Ruskies and Canada. Speaking of the latter, Crosby has looked so-so for cripes sake and reigning Norris Trophy-winner P.K. Subban and stars Patrick Sharpe, Matt Duchene and last year's scoring champ Martin St. Louis have been in-and-out of the press box as healthy scratches.

I've been able to watch live on NBC sports network.   Awesome way to start a day.  Quicks great game and shiftiness was a major asset in the win, Oshie was incredible in the shootout.  I'll start disliking him again when he goes back to the Blues.

Solid defense too. The Russians can roll two big lines, but have a KHL-heavy defense, which will be their undoing I think. When Montreal's Markov is your best NHLer on D, things ain't looking good, even though they have the best two goalies. Malkin and Ovie look average.

Agreed on the US's defense.  I think this could be what could propel this team to gold.  Especially seeing how Canada is struggling to find offense.  Did I hear it correctly that their leading scorer so far in this tournament is a defenseman?  How can that be with all the firepower they have on offense?

Snowed in today so I'm getting ready to watch some medal round games here at noon!

That defenseman leading the team ain't no hack though: LA's Drew Doughty.

We'll see how the offense gels in the next game. Sometimes a team with too many stars has trouble with offensive chemistry. Heck, only a handful of US players would make Team Canada, but it's a team sport and the US have a damn solid squad.
