QuoteLike True said, I dont really know enough about draft picks in hockey to really comment. Now football and basketball, thats another story. I know we got Ulf Samuelsson's son though!

You're not alone, and that's the problem. Zero coverage, equals zero awareness. Watching that 5 minute youtube clip of Don Cherry is more than most sports fan get to see of the sport. And that's a shame. I was shocked that Wild passed on Jordan Schroeder...twice! Great player outta the U of M, and one of us. They always say that don't care where the player is from, because they take the best available player. But here in Minny, the Xcel Center is like Lambeau Field. (Not by history) They never have not sold out, waiting list to get season tickets, and crazy fans. Sometimes you have to give the people what they want.

QuoteI actually read something yesterday that said Gaborik has only played less than 65 games in a season twice, this past year and in 06-07. That surprised me, it's seemed like he's missed a lot more time than that.

I wouldnt want Koivu if I was you, unless he ends up making much, much less than the 4.5 he was making last year. His skills aren't near what they were 5 years ago. If I wanted a Hab, I'd definitely go for Kovalev or Tanguay over him.

Gaborik is a gutless player. His heart? He has no heart. He plays when he wants to. Comes into camp overweight and outta shaped. Injuried pretty much the whole season, but had no problems sitting front row at T-Wolves games. It's ridiculous, he's ridiculous. I don't see Koivu playing with us. It's kind of crazy right now, and it seems we're a few years aways, not something a vet wants to walk into. Weak FA class for centers, and we need to fill the hole.

Forgot to say I thought San Jose re-signing Ryane Clowe for $3.5/yr for 4 years was a great signing and price. He's a real good all around player who probably hasnt even reached his offensive potential yet.

TSN and TSN2 carried the draft live for the first few rounds. Many Canadian hockey fans know the Top 10 picks very well - Tavares has been a household name in Canada before they stretched the rule in the OHL allowing for a 15-year-old to play. The CHL has a number of games a week on Sportsnet and TSN, plus the CHL (OHL/QMJHL/WHL) get daily press in all the papers across the country, not unlike NCAA. College and university hockey gets almost no press. The annual world junior tournament puts the top international players on the radar.

All four sports channels covered the Free Agent Frenzy Day for at least 5 hours.

Jeremy Roenick retired today. Thanks for 20 great years of big hits, 512 goals and great sound-bites. Roenick is one of the game's most entertaining players. I hope - for hockey and his relevance as a hockey broadcaster - Hockey Night in Canada hires him immediately, but I bet he'll end up on TSN, Versus and NBC. He ranks #2 on my all-time favourite US-born player list. #1 will always be Pat Lafontaine.

I just got back from my 5 week European vacation (and North American sports news purgetory) and found out the Jays fired their GM and my Bruins traded Kessel to the Leafs. At least Boston will get some high picks since the Leafs will suck ass for a couple of years.

i called Directv and told them I wasn't happy with Versus not being on, and since I am a Penguins fan I was counting on watching some of their games on Versus since I live in Maryland. Well, they gave me Center Ice for free and Starz and Showtime for free for 6 months.

I wasn't rude or anything, didn't even demand anything. They offered it to me to make up for not having Versus, but they said it will be back on Directv soon.

Anyway, just thought I'd toss that out there for anyone else who has had Versus taken away on their Directv due to the conflict with Comcast.

Best bet for you this week - if you can get it - is the prime time Saturday night game between the Pens against the Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada. The Leafs may suck, but they are Charlestown Chiefs tough.

With the free Center Ice for the season, the only games I haven't been able to watch are the ones on Versus. The first conflict of real interest for me will be on Oct. 20 when the Pens play the Blues.

The game Saturday night against the Leafs should be on Center Ice for me.

the other night i was all excited to watch the rangers home opener, but for whatever dumb reason it was blocked because apparently people from albany live in a buffalo sabres home market area! what the fuck?! no wonder why buffalo always brags that their local broadcasts have such high ratings. all my friends are rangers or devils fans, dont know a single sabres fan from around here. the only good thing was that when i called the cable company, the nice lady told me that i have a month long free trial for center ice, and i didnt even know it.

time warner customers, you have center ice until october 25th.

Center Ice is awesome. I know the place I live at now had it last year. They're all former hockey players and current men's leaguers, so hopefully they want to get it again this year. Like baseball, way better value than Sunday Ticket.

Someone I work with found a website from China that sells hockey jerseys for around $40, name and numbers are there. I've seen them, dude got a Vanek jeresy, so there's a Buffalo fan for yah (or poser). I'm getting a Kessel jeresy. One, it's the Leafs. Two, it's a former U of MN standout.

Also if anyone is interested in fantasy hockey...I've got a league set up that drafts tonight at 6:45central on yahoo.

Yup, wearing my Kane jersey right now for the first time, and it's perfect. No complaints at all. Thank you China and zero copyright laws! It's so easy, google "cheap hockey jerseys china" and you get a bunch of sites. I got a Zettersberg jersey for my brother, and I'm still gonna get a Kessel. Why not?  Over $160 off the team website or around $50 from China? Pretty easy call.

Sucks that Malkin is out for a couple of weeks. One of my roommate is big on Russian players for his fantasy hockey team. I ask him how thick his passion was for Russians...Rocky 4, Russian or Rock...he went with the Russian.

Well I'd assume that that's where the jerseys are being manufactured for Reebok because of cheaper labor. The hockey jersey tags say "made in canada", i think they're stretching the truth. I don't know if it would fall under copyright laws (they're not imitations), but it can't be legal. I'd assume Reebok will crack down on this eventually, so get them while you can.
