Now we just need Hanley Ramirez to slump so we can get the Triple Crown, and the MVP, and the Cy Young and the Penant and the World Series......

Alright. We need to find someone to go all Tanya Harding on his ass.

Okay, I wrote the Twins off months ago, but wow they're still in it to win it. Of course it helps when we're playing in probably the weakest division, but we'll take what we can get. Should be a fun series against the Tigers coming up. Tater it'd be huge if the Sox could win tomorrow. We're going up against Greinke tomorrow, so we'll need the help. BTW, do you think Ozzie going to get fired? I've been listening to The Score at night lately, and it seems Sox fans are restless, and rightfully so.

Twins still got a chance to win the division but not sure if they can advance in the playoffs. We haven't played the other divisions very well this year.Still haven't given up hope.

Can someone enlighten me. When the MLB gets to post season is that when all the match-ups become knockout series?

If so, can somebody post all the match-ups when they have been decided?

Post season baseball in October, truly a magical time.  Go Yanks!

In general, there are three divisions in each league.  The division champions and one remaining team with the best record not to win a division are selected to make the playoffs.  The team with the best record typically plays the wild card team.  However, they cannot play each other in the 1st round if they come from the same division.  Therefore in the AL this year, it will likely be the Yankees (best record) against the winner of the AL Central which as of now looks like Detroit (yeah I know Walts, Twinsies are still there) ;) while the Los Angeles Angels will be playing the Boston Red Sox.

The NL is a little crazier to predict matchups because the division leaders all have similar records.  The Dodgers, Phillies and Cardinals will be the division champions and the wild card team will be either the Colorado Rockies or the Atlanta Braves.

The 1st round of the playoffs is a best of 5 games series while the league championship series and World Series are 7 games.

I hate the 5 game rule for the 1st round.  It makes no sense. >:(

These teams play 162 games to prove if they deserve to make the playoffs than can be eliminated in a matter of 3 consecutive games?  Let them play 7 I say.

Hope that made some sense.

Ok, I got it thanks. Just one more thing. How is it decided which teams play each other e.g. Yankees v Tigers or Twins.

Is it based purely on their winning percentage for the season? So even though the Tigers or Twins might win their division, they are ranked lower than the Red Sox because of their winning percentage, and therefore have to play the Yankees?

Sorry, I wasn't clear above.

Usually, the team with the best record (Yankees) would play the wild card (non division winning team) which in this case would be the Red Sox.  However, the rule is that in the 1st round, teams from the same division cannot play each other.  Therefore, even though the Yankees and Red Sox should, because they both play in the AL East, they cannot be matched up.  Therefore, the team with the best record plays the team with the worst record that isn't the Red Sox.  Therefore, it would be the Yankees vs the Tigers/Twins

How do the Cubs factor in to all of this?

I gotta tell ya Walts I'm torn on who to pull for on the division winner.  I got more friends that are Tigers fans than Twins fans, the rivalry between the Twins and the Sox is a little more tumultuous.  Either way, the ALC race  is about all baseball has going until the playoffs start as far as races go. I'm not gonna lie, I'm happy you guys are getting a new stadium and bulldozing the rollerdome  ;), that place has always been a house of horrors for Chicago baseball and football.
