 Not ruining anything Crispy. There are drunk idiots in every town who feel that's how championships are celebrated. It's an unfortunate contingency for cities these days.

Nothing could ruin this, though.

The parade and speeches were so good.  I honestly can't believe there is another team as goofy, quirky, good looking and talented as these guys are.   The gold "broom to the city"  was a nice touch too.

Oh man, Ruckus, I just tried to imagine how happy B-more would be if the Orioles won the World Series...

I'm guessing the National Guard might have to be deployed around the entire length of 695 to contain the joy.
You ain't lyin!

Ok guys.  I'm done being salty about the O's.

Congrats Jaye, bbill, Ms. Y, Fredo

Saw Vin Scully at the DMV in Thousand Oaks today. He looked GREAT for a few weeks shy of 85. Looked about 70. I was in a long line, he walked right passed me, and no one noticed or knew who he was. He then drove off in a modest car. A multi-millionaire 85 y/o man drives himself to the DMV in everyman style.

the Marlins doing Marlin things:

Fucking awesome news... for Jays fans. We gave up non top prospects and a shortstop with ugly baggage. Marlins fans should be furious at the crazy owner.

Admittedly I am a San Fran Giants fan, who lives in Miami (less than 10 minutes from the stadium) and a Marlins season ticket holder.

I really really wanted to believe that with the new stadium (essentially funded by the public) that the ownership would really commit to winning now (as they've stated they would).

However, they really did show their true colors with this move.  The front office of this team is full of business men, not baseball men.  Their first desire is to make money.  There's nothing wrong with wanted to make money, unless you are running a baseball team.

For years they complained that they couldn't put a solid team together because they had no income (from playing in a stadium owned by the Dolphins).  They told us that once they got their stadium, they would commit to winning.  Because they'd have increased revenue from the concessions, suites, etc.  The city basically paid for their stadium based on that promise (and some corruption within the city commissioner's office).
We believed that after their off-season spending spree last year that they really were focused on winning, and not making money.

This however, is so embarrassing.  The entire city feels like we've been duped, but we also know that we should have seen this coming, considering the guys who are in the front office, and their track record.

Its all just really sad.

Jeffrey Loria ran the talented Expos and their legacy out of Quebec and has ruined almost everything he touches, including the Marlins eyesore new ballpark. A couple of the Jays prospects could turn into keepers, but Loria will have to keep them when and if they do turn into good MLB players.

That trade was so Marlins.

Giants re-signed Affeldt.

Congratulations to Bob Melvin!

Jeffrey Loria is the anti-Midas.  Everything he touches turns to shit.  He's like the G.W. Bush of baseball owners.

Absolutely!

I read an article recently that was questioning whether Posey has had the best start ever to a major league career, which is an amazing claim since he spent a third of it injured. There are a few others (DiMaggio, Musial) that have had better starts, but Posey is up there. I'm not saying his career will be as great as those guys, but as starts have gone (NL ROY, NL MVP, Batting Title, 2 World Series titles), he's been about as hot as you can get.

sorry to hear about this.  when i heard about the marlins fire sale i thought they might have been in the same position the padres were in after building their stadium:  needing to keep payroll down to pay for the park.  took them a few years to start spending for players again.
sounds like the guys in charge of the marlins are in league with the tool that used to own the dodgers.  that man was a grade-a greedy creep with no interest in baseball.
i'm not a dodgers fan but i live in los angeles.  so happy to see they're front office fortunes are shifting.

bbill:  why congrats to bob melvin?!  (gonna have to look this one up)
--follow up:  congratulations, indeed!  big year for bay area baseball! <3

Giants resigned Pagan and Scutaro in the last week. Not having reliable, effective lead-off guys had been a real problem for the Giants until last year, so I'm really glad to have those two coming back. With Crawford at SS, our middle infield defense is going to be solid, too.

Only free agent that I think hasn't been signed is Brian Wilson. It'd be a bummer to see him go, but I wouldn't want the Giants to give him too much guaranteed money.

What have your teams been up to?

Lotta complaining in Baltimore, since we haven't signed Josh Hamilton, Zack Grienke, Mickey Mantle, Walter Johnson, blah, blah, blah...

The owner hatred (somewhat justified) hits a fevered pitch in the offseason when we don't spend like the Yanks and BoSox.  It's all bitching and pitching here in Charm City.

The Jays are loaded now, but may want to add a relief pitcher and will probably deal a starting catcher since they have two good ones now (with a blue-chip prospect waiting in the weeds).
