QuoteI was just thinking - there's a lot of white folks around here.

"Hey! Where all the white women at?!?!?!"

I can't believe no one beat me to that yet.

QuoteVisiting Mississippi was a real culture shock for me. I loved the experience and want to go back as soon as I can.

Well then you have to go to Oxford, perhaps the most happening town in Mississippi. Bands come throught there too since they have a university (Ole Miss) plus Sweet Tea records and WSP George has a guitar shop there. He's some Oxford links:

Thanks for the links! Oxford was on my list but I really wanted to visit Clarksdale first - it was the reason for my trip to the delta in the first place. Life in Clarksdale and surrounding area was what shocked me the most, in both good and bad ways. Fascinating all the same.

I wanted to travel more into Delta Blues country, but I didn't have enough time. I stayed in Clarksdale for two days (at the Shack Up Inn) but before that, I visited Nashville and Memphis. I enjoyed Clarksdale and Greenwood the most - although Nashville was a lot of fun too.

I want to go Oxford the next time I'm in Mississippi - which I hope is in the next year or two - I'm going to France in May and then I'm off to Cuba in August and the Costa Rica in the new year.

OK, last suggestion. To be in the delta during harvest time (first of October)is truly an amazing experience as the cotton fields are being harvested and some fields are seas of white.  Also, The King Biscuit Blues Festival in West Helena, Arkansas (about 30 miles from Clarksdale) coincides with the harvest-http://www.bluesaccess.com/No_31/kbbf.html

(you got me going down memory lane here!) ;D

Is no one adding pictures anymore?  I guess I'll have to step up to the plate.  This one's my modeling photo, which snagged me a 3 year, 20 million dollar contract with Abercrombie.  I start next month ;)

man, you couldn't pay me a BILLION dollars to put any picture of myself up from the ages of 8-21, aka the awkward years.

ali

and yes, there is NO way i would put an "early-years" ali photo ANYWHERE.... way too embarrassing...

story behind that one:

third grade i joined a wrestling team because my friend was on it. so it comes time for pictures, and all the kids take the ready stance and smile nicely. i decided i'd look as menacing as possible. this is wrestling, after all.

nevermind the fact that i had only three wins that season. all of which were forfeits, as my opponents just didn't show up. but i had the best picture :)

oh yeah, and please note the moobs (man + boobs = moobs)

Tom, if that's not the picture you use on your first album release....

you could do a reflective and pensive album, put that pic on the front. Call it: The Uncomfortable Years.
