I watched Dune and Amelie last night. I really liked Dune, didn't really know what to expect. Started kind of slow but once it got going and they started riding giant worms around and with that badass theme music i started really enjoying it. Amelie was good too. I made two discoveries from these films" Tremors totally ripped off Dune, and Travelocty got the roaming gnome from Amelie.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

+ 2nd trailer for Cloverfield, bit of a let down after the teaser. Very brief shot of the monster as it gets shot at by the military:

Into the Wild

definitely worth the 2.5 hours, great movie.

Following some of the press around this, I dont understand the "outrage" people have towards Chris for doing what he did.  It kinda pisses me off to tell the truth.  I read a few people, making their claims as Alaskan's (for what thats worth), saying that he "deserved to die"  Really??................. :-?

Some jackass sports writer wrote a story in our local rag this weekend that basically went like this:  Chris McCandless was stupid, for $24,000 he could of bought some of the best outdoor survival equipment available, he made dumb mistakes, and got what was coming to him.

I've never read something by somebody so oblivious to the FUCKING POINT!
I'm not saying it's easy...walking into sweet oblivion.

Guy Ritchie jumped the shark named Madonna. He's finished.

I'm Not There.

Maybe I'll start a thread about it.  I was NOT disappointed.  Very good.  I think it would be damn near unintelligible for those not familiar with Dylan and some of the story behind the music.  If you are familiar with Dylan, the man, the myth, and the music I would definitely recommend this flick.  Jim's scene in a crucial part of the movie and it was surreal to see him in the same scene as Richard Gere.  The music was great, of course. Go see it!

Saw it last night too, aMD.  And I agree, it was a beautiful movie.  The imagery in the Billy the Kid scenes was just amazing.  Todd Haynes weaves the different aspects of Dylan into a great story.  It may be hard for non-dylan fans to follow all the sublte aspects.  However, it is a pleasure to watch the cinematography.
It was beautiful.....

Has anyone seen the preview for "Cloverfield"?  It looks awesome.  Check it.

No Country for Old Men.  This is the new Coen brother movie. Go see it. I'll go see it again, probably in the afternoon in the hopes of an empty theater. It's disturbing and enlightening.

I just saw "Into The Wild"     and it was spectacular.    Go see it now!
cheers.

Just saw it too. I was supposed to go thanksgiving night but that got postponed. Javier Bardem was extaordinary as Anton Chigurh. It's easily their best film since O Brother. I never did see Intolerable Cruelty. Its good to see them go back to their darker styled movies, although I would still have to rate Blood Simple and Fargo higher than this.

I agree, partly. I need to see it again b/c there's so many metaphors, so much imagery, etc... that I missed. I can't say I totally loved Fargo the first time, but about the 4th or 5th time, yes. Thing is, I loved No Country the first time, so hopefully it grows and grows and grows.
