Thin Red Line did not translate well onto DVD (IMO). At the theater, I was really moved by the cinematography; like, it really tocuhed me, some of those long shots of that hill. Amazing.

Whereas you get the point of Ryan on the big or little screen.

I've watched all but the last episode of HBO's war series Generation Kill, which I think is pretty good. Now it certainly is comparable to Band of Brothers in style and in its graphic portrayal of modern warfare, but the characters are not as engaging and the series just isn't as good as B of B. It's more depressing though, given that we are all closer to this conflict than WWII and that it is a true story (based on articles written by a writer from Rolling Stone). Overall, Generation Kill is well worth watching.

QuoteTwo of the VERY BEST movies I have ever seen.....

The Thin Red Line

&

The Fall

Just got The Fall on Netflix. Loved it.  I remember I missed it on the big screen. I made a point of seeing it, only it played on a couple of screens in New York for like 2 weeks. That would of been awesome.  :/

Lately it's been Fellini, Buneul, Bella Tarr, Tarkovsky, Emir Kusterica (Underground!), Herzog (Fitzcarraldo!), Kurosawa & Bergman.

hmmmm. Being a former fan of wrestling, this sounds interesting. Sometimes the small circuits are best (and usually bloodiest and most tragic).

Hey man.  yeah me too (well the fake kind at least). we'd be doing DDT's on the bed watching wresltemania.

Never watched the smaller circuits but I've seen that ultimate fighting stuff. That is wrong.
Looking forward to seeing Aronofsky's take.  He's slated to direct the next Robocop.  :)

"The Road" is coming out soon.  I'm a sucker for apocalypse films and the book is awesome.  Cake, DM did ya see this? :

Yeah, some of the smaller ones were really good, ie infamous. It really wasn't any better then ECW back in the day. Chairshots, barbed wire, crazy ass Mick Foley before he became big, crazier ass old Terry Funk, Taz, Mikey W, Raven, Tajiri, Shane Douglas, just drunk and crazy Sandman, Sabuuuuuuuuu, and on and on and on. Man I miss those days.

I never was into wrestling too much but I still want to see this. Judging from his other movies, I can guess that Aronofsky will portray a wrestler with demons - steroids, alcohol abuse possibly. Should be good.

#23 I thought was surprisingly good...Its kind of funny how Jim Carrey hasnt had a good comedy in over 10 years, but consistently has above average dramas..I thought this was 1 of his best with Spotless and Truman Show

Hot Rod..Didnt expect much, but it still didnt deliver. I like Andy Samberg, but that was a dud for the most part

I think what makes you know itll be the shit is that Mickey Rourke is the main guy too...Rourke is DA MAN and I doubt he wont be great in this one

Burn After Reading - Exceeded my expectations. It wasn't what I expected, but it was what I should've expected from the Coens. The beginning of the movie doesn't feel like a Coen Brothers movie, I think the cinematography gives it a different atmosphere. After awhile the plot gets crazier and its classic Coens. Brad Pitt is perfect as a dim gym rat. A good mix of comedy/drama (as usual) with more violence than I expected.

Brad Pitt said at the Toronto International Film Festival last week that he used to be like his character in Burn After Reading. If you want to see what he was like in his early acting days, go out and rent the hilarious film Living in Oblivion. They don't say that the blonde jackass actor is Brad Pitt, but he most certainly is. The film is a film within a film and based on a true story. Fucking funny film I tell you what: http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=1:133594~T1

I liked #23.  Spotless and Truman are both great movies.  Not sure if I'd put #23 with those or not.  I think I'd need to see it a few more times.

As for Hot Rod, I have an odd relationship with that movie.  I was living with a friend of mine and he spent several weeks talking me into going to see it in the theater.  By no means is it a good movie but I think its absolutely hilarious and I've seen it probably a dozen times if not more.

I just watched Wayne's World.  I'm in need of a mood booster right now and thought it might help a little.

Just saw Righteous Kill..And I have to say I liked a lot, apparently more than most people judging by the reviews on netflix and amazon. Its no HEAT, but I think its a solid 4 outta 5 star movie due to the acting especially.

This might be because my initial judging of the trailer was a weak storyline where they banked on bringing people to the movie with the actors, and I thought it looked disappointing. Maybe since I went in with this mindset instead of expecting the next Departed or We Own the Night is why I left the theater happy and with a smile that only a great movie or great acting by a favorite actor can give you.

Ive read a lot of reviews that said it was slow and boring. It was only about an hour in a half, tops, and I was glued to the screen the whole time and thought they made every scene interesting and progressing the storyline, so I dont know why people are saying that. A lot of people also said it was predictable. I mean, just based on how it started everyone should know something is going to go down. People saying they saw the exact twist coming a half hour in are just trying to make excuses for not liking it or something. Maybe the twist they chose was the most predictable, but it certainly could have gone a few other ways.

That said, it certainly could have been better and possibly great. A couple turns the plot took I wasnt a big fan of, and thinking back on some of AP and RDN's actions/decisions once you know whats going on didnt really add up. I didnt think 50 Cent was bad, and he probably only has like 8 minutes of screentime anyway, but I think they would of been better off with someone else (Mekhi Phifer? Michael K Williams? Wood Harris? Omar Epps? Derek Luke?)

If anything though, De Niro and Pacino give excellent performances I thought. IMO, almost undoubtedly Pacino's best since Donnie Brasco and De Niro's best since Ronin or Jackie Brown. De Niro's performance is more tour de force, but Pacino nails all the subtleties of his character. Not to mention, their back and forth banter is priceless at times. So if youre a fan of either of them, seeing as its likely each actor's best performance in a decade, I think its well worth the price of admission

Anyone else see it yet?

Saw JAWS last night on the big screen - the original print that was shown in 1975.

The show was packed and the film still got gasps and screams in all the usual places...

A great night out.
