QuoteJust watched Christmas On Mars. I really liked it. I was expecting something really epic after seven years, but it was just a nice little movie, about an hour and twenty minutes. Some of the acting was decent at best, but Steven Drozd actually did a very good job. Great music obviously. Some nice visuals. I'm not disappointed.

The greatest movie about Mars will always be Mars Attacks though

One of Nicholson's finest pieces of cinema

I just saw that for the first time last weekend. I liked it. Jack did do a great job but, from what I've seen, he almost never doesn't (even if Heath Ledger's Joker completely destroyed his).

QuoteI got There Will Be Blood from my online rental a couple of weeks ago, just can't find myself in the right mood to watch it...

It does take a certain mood. No dialogue for twenty minutes and more or less pure intensity for the entire running time. But once you're ready for it, it's amazing in every way possible.

It's also not a black or white movie tone-wise; it's grey, plus it looks and moves like a Terrence Malick or even a David Lean film.
Watched it last night...absolutely superb! Daniel Day Lewis was incredible!
I thought I'd watched most of his movies (In The Name of The Father & Last Of The Mohicans were my favourites before last night) but I haven't seen The Boxer or Ballad of Jack & Rose. Anyone?

I still think Punch-Drunk Love is my fav PTA (parent teacher association?) Only just though...

Punch-Drunk Love is probably my favorite too. PTA is talented but doesn't anyone agree his movies are too similar to other directors? Boogie Nights is flashy like Scorsese, Magnolia is a poor man's Short Cuts, I'm not sure about Punch-Drunk, maybe has a french quirkiness, There Will Be Blood draws from Kubrick, but is probably his most original.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

QuoteI think those are both supposed to be good, but havent seen them

Gotta see TWBBlood still too

Cant see it topping Last of the Mohicans though  :)

Gangs of New York I still think is an underrated movie and performance by him.

Gangs Of New York is awesome. I don't get why people don't like that movie. Dicaprio has come a long way, being in Scorsese movies was a great career move. Daniel Day Lewis is really good too.

Whenever I first read DB's post, I missed the PTA part at the end.

Actually, my favorite PTA movie is probably Hard Eight.

I mean, I like a lot of movies with similarities to it, but I thought it was done fantastically. When I 1st watched it, I had seen all of PTA's other movies first. I think the reason I originally rented it was bc he directed, but Im not even sure in all honesty.

That movie resurrected John C Reilly and Philip Baker Halls career I think (well, maybe not), and Samuel L and Gwyneth were also great.

Ill need to watch it again, and that movie is really different compared to PTA's other movies, but he pulls off the crime caper with eaaase.

Loved Hard Eight

I just went to IMDB and Hard Eight isn't listed for PTA. In Fact, Hard Eight isn't listed at all?  :-?

I just felt like Charlie Murphy pre-Chappelle's show right there.

I knew what I was talking about, but both of you were thinking 'what is the Capt smokin?!?!'

Eddie Murphy does have a brother, and PTA's 1st movie is sick.

Everyone should Netflix Hard Eight/Sydney/whatever its called in your country  :)

Lars and the Real Girl. Mrs. and I both enjoyed it. Very quirky. We also liked Pumpkin if that tells you anything.
