Forgot to mention - picked up Breathless and Pierre Le Fou from the library today.  It's time to get my Godard on.

QuoteSlumdog Millionaire was perfect.  I forgot how powerful of a filmmaker Danny Boyle is - always loved his visual style.  Damn was it ever great.
Glad you liked it. What a love story...

I saw The Wrestler this past weekend. It made me physically uncomfortable watching Mickey Rourke, but I think that's a huge part of why he's considered such a great actor. I really enjoyed it. I loved the theme of identity and escapism with his wrestling life vs. real life. Evan Rachel Wood is a fantastic actress, too.

Hopefully its good. I really enjoyed the first one, but the definitely set the bar pretty high with that. I liked the plot of the first one a lot too, so hopefully this one has that going for it as well.

What I really cant wait for is the GI Joe movie, although from what I remember about the show, the movie looks nothing like it from the 30 sec preview, so thats a little disappointing.

I questioned the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander, but I think he has the ability to pull it off. Kind of like how I felt with Ledger and the Joker. What really perplexes me though is Christopher Eccleston as Destro. Really guys, thats the best you could do???

Ruckus

Made it through Fitzcarraldo.  Not my favorite.  I read that the local film people that worked for Herzog during the filming would physically hurt him if he ever showed his face back in their region.

Hmmmm.... His drive and arrogance is clearly a constant double edged sword

I just lost some respect for Christian Bale.  Something tells me he'd get along great with David O. Russell.

I think his rise to the A-list over the last few years has gone to head and his ego has gone pretty much into the atmosphere.

This, combined with him getting arrested for beating his wife, kind of comfirms that, or at least confirms he needs anger management.

Yeah I read this yesterday & thought the same thing.
Beating his wife? I know he got arrested for a fight with his Mum & sister last year but I didn't know he beat his wife.
I remember reading an interview with him in Empire a few years ago whilst he was filming Batman Begins. He was really short, even rude sometimes when answering the questions. He's a good actor, shame.
I guess he's the new Russell Crowe now...

Hawkeye

Just saw:
Burn After Reading - Thought it wasn't as bad as everyone was making it out to be, but definitely not as good as it could have been given the cast.  Malkovich had some funny scenes, especially when he's working out on the boat.

Traitor - Has Don Cheadle and Guy Ritchie.  Again, thought it was pretty good, nothing too special except the ending, but I should have seen that coming anyway.

Repo - The Genetic Opera - WOW is all I can say.  I thought it looked kinda cool based on the movie poster  :-/  It was pretty horrible.  It is literally a horror opera, but way too light on the horror.  The music was catchy enough, but the lyrics were downright laughable and made the movie unwatchable for me.

The Rocker - A few semi-funny moments but otherwise terribly cheesy and just plain terrible.

Gran Torino - Wasn't sure what to think of this one.  Eastwood at his age still trying to be a badass...not that cool.  He was, however, funny whether intentional or not, in his interactions with the neighbors.
We could.

I started watching this on the plane, had to change the channel!

I watched Step Brothers last night - not bad, quite funny I guess.
I'm a fan of John C. Reilly & it makes me smile to see how well he has done for himself. Who ever would have thought that the c-list actor from Casualties of War, Days Of Thunder, What's Eating Gilbert Grape (one of his best roles) etc would be making comedies with Will Ferrell 20 years later?

Max Payne

Now, for me to not at least be entertained by a popcorn flick or box office movie, you really gotta fuck it up. Well, Max Payne was pretty damn bad and fucked up. I even have the 1st video game of it that probably came out almost 10 years ago, and if they just stuck to that basic story, it wouldve easily been a little better.

Rarely is a movie ever so bad that I have to turn it off, but this 1 was just about that bad. From about 20-45 minutes in, I kept trying to find some other reason to turn it off than it just being terrible, but I couldnt. Luckily, the last 45 minutes do get a little better and more true to the video game, but honestly I dont think it couldve gotten any worse. Has got to be the worst thing Marky Mark has done since writing Good Vibrations. Watching Mila Kunis or Olga Kurylenko look good, or Marlo Stanfield have a 2 minute part, doesnt even help this one.

This makes Doom look like a cinematic masterpiece

1.02/5 (if not for the 2nd half being a little better, this wouldve ended up 0.4/5)

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

As funny as I expected it would be and I particularly liked that there wasn't as much annoyingly long, self indulgent Kevin Smith dialogue as I would have expected.  Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Smith but sometimes it is too much.

Otherwise, this movie is nothing more standard fair romantic comedy with the a coating of sex and vulgarity.

I'll be grading my films with emoticons out of 5.

Defiance

Solid movie all around. Heard the story was great, and it was, but something else was missing according to a few people Ive talked to who ahd seen it. I didnt think so. Acting was great all around and the story was captivating with a minimal amount of violence. Despite that and clocking in at 2hrs 20min, I thought it moved pretty quickly.

Def worth seeing

4.0/5

Step Brothers - I enjoyed it. I think this was the first Ferrell movie I've seen since Talladega Nights. John C. Reilly is a very good comedic actor, but I'd like to see him do serious stuff again too.

RocknRolla - I was kinda sleepy during the movie. Either the movie wasn't that good and made me sleepy, or I was too sleepy to enjoy it. I'm not sure.

That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Everyone Ive seen talk about RnR says its good, but not quite as good as Snatch or Lock Stock. Which I take means its better than most movies youll see
