QuoteGuy Ritchie's Revolver.  Very different from my favorites--Snatch and Lock, Stock, & 2 Smoking Barrels

Didnt like Revolver at all. I think I almost turned it off an hour in, and I love Snatch and Lock Stock.

I keep forgetting I need to see RockNRolla still though so thanks!

Appaloosa - Good revenge western with a few unexpected twists and turns. Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris are excellent as is villain Jeremy Irons. Nice work, again, from Lance Hendrikson. Rene Zellweger was miscast somewhat, but she didn't bother me too much. If you like traditional revenge westerns, then this is well worth watching.

yeah, Im pretty sure when that Western thread was started I saw this around then and liked it a lot.

Ed Harris' character was great. Pretty sure he wrote and directed Appaloosa as well.

He co-wrote the adapted screenplay and directed.

This just in: John Hughes died of a heart attack today. My favourite of all his films is Planes, Trains and Automobiles. In fact, it remains one of the funniest and best buddy pictures of all time. R.I.P.

I enjoyed RockNRolla, knowing that it's part 1 of a trilogy.

"The Wrestler"  HO. LY. SH. IT.  not what I expected yet it surpassed all my expectations and increased my love for Mickey Rourke 10 fold.  I felt drained and exhilerated all at the same time
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

I Love You, Man - an honest, well-developed and very funny "bromantic" comedy. I liked this film better than all the recent Apatow flicks.

Really? thought it was the worst of anything Apatow affiliated from the last 5 or so years that Ive seen, not that that means it was bad though. Im not sure he had any part of this movie though either.

Saw Funny People on saturday and I liked it a lot. Plenty of comedic parts, I liked how there was stand up in the actual movie, but plenty of serious themes and storylines as well. It clocks in over 2 hours but it didnt feel long to me.

I loved The Hangover, but a lot of the laughs in that were over the top or sensational so I kind of discount a comedy for that because it doesnt have the rewatchability as much. With that in mind, Funny People is probably my favorite comedy of the year.

If you havent seen it yet Jaimoe, it blows I Love You Man out of the water and is worth seeing in theaters.

I Love You, Man has no affiliation with Apatow, other than a crossover of some of the actors and some nods to his style. I have to say The 40 Year Old Virgin is better (I forgot about it) and I haven't seen The Hangover... yet.

I thought Superbad was classic.  Funny People was really good.  Funny and serious, lots of good actors and writers working on it. I like a lot of the actors he works with in general.

Also, Capt, Apatow as only been making these movies for four years, although it seems like more since he seems to come out with two a year.  Before that he was mostly a TV writer.

Yest ye forget so soon about a post I made like a week ago in response to your Funny People post..

It definitely looks very funny.

Most people dont realize its only the 3rd movie Apatow's actually directed because they think he directed a lot of the movies he's associated with and/or produced (Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pienapple Express, Walk Hard, Anchorman, etc).

The only movies he actually he directed are 40 Yr Old Virg and Knocked Up, which I actually think are my 2 favorite movies out of any of the ones I just mentioned and other comedies with the Rogen's, Rudd's, etc. so Im definitely looking forward to seeing this one.

I think I brought this up when BH asked about favorite Burton movies, but typically people only call a movie someone's movie based on the director. I know about Freaks & Geeks (but havent seen it) and Undeclared (watched it when it originally aired and loved it), but if were talking about Apatow movies, then the only ones are technically 40YOV, Knocked Up, and Funny People.

I personally dont mind including what he's written or produced with what he's directed, but for every Superbad, Step Brothers, and Anchorman (and I'll also mention The TV Set, because its very good but I dont think Ive ever seen anyone mention it), you're also then including Fun With Dick & Jane, Year One, & Drillbit Taylor. Its kind of a double edged sword in his case.

For the record, out of every movie people loosely think are Apatow movies, its very possible 40 YOV, Knocked Up, and Funny People (in that order) are my 3 favorites. Superbad and Anchorman are the only ones that contend with those three, although Funny People will need a couple more viewings.

I definitely consider the ones he's written as Apatow movies.  Well, except the early stuff (see Heavyweights).  If he just produced, that's one thing.  A producer can be listed just for the name recognition, but writing is integral to the film, moreso than directing, IMO.

I might add Freaks and Geeks as well as Undeclared into the fold since that was the beginning of Apatow finding his voice as a writer and finding a cast of actors that liked working with him and with each other.  However, I might excluded the Tom Arnold Show and the Larry Sanders Show, which he was a writer on.

Not sure if anyone posted about this yet, but I'm pretty pumped for The Road. It combines the talents of two of my favorite movies from the past  couple years - John Hillcoat, the director of The Proposition, and writer Cormac McCarthy (i know everyone knows about him here).

I remember K was pimpin The Road.

Watchmen

decent. the special effects were some of the best ive ever seen, but that was pretty much all it offered that impressed me outside of the overall cinematography. I never read the comic, but the flashbacks and jumping around of the storyline actually detracted from the movie building into something IMO (and I love me some flashbacks), and just made it seem disjointed. Just when you thought it was going somewhere, theyd flashback or something and once its done you feel like youre back at point one. the acting wasnt anything special for the most part, and I found the characters outside of Rorschach and the Comedian to be pretty uninteresting. the villain was barely developed, and the little that he/she was happened very late in the movie. the ending is anticlimatic, at best.

Not so bad I wanted to turn it off or anything, but I wont try to watch it again. It starts off very good, but after the first 20 minutes or so, its all downhill.

I saw 500 Days of Summer and really enjoyed it. The music was great, too. But it is still really weird to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt grown up since I loved him so much as Tommy Solomon. :)

DISTRICT 9 was pretty decent. This is one of those movies I will have to think about for a week or so before I decide if I liked it, hated it, or loved it. It's got some beautiful effects, but the main character is basically Borat.
