QuoteAnd based on MJ and DB's raves I saw both Dead Man's Shoes and This Is England. Both were really good but I thought Dead Man's Shoes to be slightly overrated. Don't get me wrong though, I'm glad I watched both.

Precious......dark and disturbing look at the real world for some people.I can't say I enjoyed it,it's not that type of film but it affected me like no other movie I have seen.
The fact that my hearts beating

The DARK

Finally got around to seeing Blazing Saddles. Not sure what I can add to the discussion about the movie that hasn't been said before.  ;) Just great comedy.

When I went on the internet afterwards, I glanced quickly at the news headlines. Somehow the world just seems that much more funny and ridiculous after watching anything Mel Brooks.

QuoteThoughts on This is England?
It was cool, it seemed pretty authentic to me. Since I loved punk rock at one point of my life I was familiar with the fact that skinhead culture started as a non-racist thing, and that there were racist groups that came up as well.
I only thought Dead Man's Shoes was overrated because I saw it on several top ten of the decade lists, I don't think I'd put it up that high. I like that kind of violence in movies, I don't like over the top gory/slasher/torture flicks. It was well done in a genre I enjoy, and I like when some things are left open to interpretation.

EDIT:
I only paid 4 dollars for Dead Man's Shoes, and 6 for This Is England!
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

King of California

Really liked this movie, and mostly that comes down to Evan Rachel Wood and Michael Douglas' performances. Ive known about this film for awhile, but for whatever reason never saw it. I HIGHLY recommend it. Douglas plays ERW's dad who just got out of a mental institution and believes he's on the trail of long lost gold in Cali. In reality, the plot is secondary to the 2 lead (and basically only) characters relationship, but both meld nicely. ERW seems to like the lost/castoff teen roles, and she pulls this off better than Ive seen elsewhere. Ive never considered Douglas to be a great actor, but I really like quite a few of his movies (wall street, the game, traffic, a perfect murder, ghost & the darkness, war of the roses, etc), and I honestly think this is the best performance Ive ever seen from him. If not best, definitely the most enjoyable.

Really good movie, full circle ending that for me was enhanced by closing it with Wilco & BB's "California Stars"

Id say 3.8/5 but Douglas and Wood raise it to 4.3/5

Terminator Salvation...

they just ruin these classic sci fi movies these days.  Hasn't been a good terminator since terminator 2, hasn't been a good aliens since... aliens, hasn't been a good predator since predator 2

Terminator salvation was fine, but there was no compelling story, the acting was nothing extraordinary, the graphics were fine but nothing to be amazed by.

People should have to be held more accountable for not making good movies off of the classics!

QuoteWhy does Nic make it so easy for us to hate him?

;D

It seems like he's made so many movies like this, the only actor who should have made more money this decade is Will Smith

...it totally came and went here in the states and I dont even remember seeing it in theaters, but I heard the Herzog directed Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans was actually pretty good. Its funny how Cage can def pull off roles like that, but 75% of the time he does movies like this one. I liked the original Bad Lieutenant, although my favorite Abel Ferrara movie is King of New York

I actually kind of liked Alien Resurrection, but yeah, its no Aliens. Despite David Fincher directing Aliens 3, I didnt like that one so much.

Totally agree with your basic argument, although Batman went to shit and Nolan totally resurrected that series. That said, I dont think you can just go back and rehash Terminator, Aliens, or Predator.

No but they should just ignore that terminator salvation was ever made (like they did with the hulk) and try again. I mean, the basic timeline is there, At this point it should be judgement day, but they should take time to really start at the beginning of judgement day, where the world is just going to hell.

In a perfect world, I'd rather have McG NOT make any more Terminators; instead, I'd love another two years of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The Hangover - hilarious with great performances; Ed Helms rules!

Star Trek - a reboot that delivers big time. I loved it.

My only complaint about the Hangover is that since so much of the comedy is crazy, outlandish, surprising scenarios, its not nearly as rewatchable as other comedies that are that good.

Avatar - I'm no James Cameron fan (give me Alien over Aliens any day of the week) but I have to admit that he just took cinema to the next level...see it in 3D & have your mind blown!

Peeping Tom. Pretty damn excellent film. This was my first time watching it and I think I need to see it again to know if I actually like it/want to own it, but it was definitely effective.
