9 Songs- I'm not sure if this was a porno with concert footage or a concert movie with porn footage. The music is fantastic. I mean come on BRMC, Elbow, SFA's.... Outside of the music all the movie is is the sex. They do not really do much explaining on this relationship.

yea i'll never be watching that movie! WTF man? Dafoe gives me the creeps!
He was scarier in Spiderman when he took his mask off. Also, he is the worlds ugliest cross dresser.

i'll say
What, I'm not appealing?

QuoteSin Nombre - Very good movie, excellent scenery! Recommended if you like City Of God and Amores Perros, but I wouldn't rate it as being as good as those.

I came on to post about the same movie.  It's definitely not up there with CoG and Amores Perros, but it's a pretty good gangster road movie.  Loved the train scenes, and scenery, too.

I'm glad I didn't know anything about MS13 when we were travelling in Central America.  They look like proper nutters.

This is a movie I definitely want to see.

Another foreign film from 2009 that caught my attention was Sugar, about a dominican baseball player coming to america to play in the minor leagues

Bamboozled
Id say for the most part, I love Spike Lee joints. After looking over his filmography, Ive seen 10 of his movies and the only one I didnt really like was Jungle Fever. Bamboozled wasnt terrible, and I realize its satire, but Lee beats you over the head with this to the point where you dont even want to finish the movie. The movie isnt better than good in any facet, the acting and memorable characters is surprisingly missing for a Lee flick, and Damon Wayans accent is downright annoying. The only enjoyable parts for me were the scenes with Mos Def or Paul Mooney. Might be the only Spike Lee movie I wouldnt recommend. I was reading over some other peoples comments on IMDB and a lot seem to think its one of his best movies  :-?
2/5

Little Children
I actually started watching this wondering it if Id finish it as I expected sort of a romantic-drama and not a genre that generally interests me, but this movie had me intrigued from the start. The voice-over is slightly tedious at first, but gradually decreases to being used sparingly over the last 45-60 minutes. Instead of a movie with people having affairs and examining morals and such like youll typically see, this went beyond that and was more of a character study almost that demonstrated everyone's flaws in an obvious but brilliant manner. And in the end, these flawed decisions, behaviors, and lack of thinking about the consequences - made by essentially every character except one - was on the level of a child or immature individual. Acting was great all around, especially Kate Winslet (as usual) and Jackie Earle Haley, both of whom were nominated for best supporting actress/actor. Haley was particularly good in his role as a pedophile just released from jail and returning from the community. Although it's been awhile since Ive seen it, many things about this movie had me continuously reminded of Magnolia.
4.4/5

Read the book. It's outstanding and you get some depth the film is missing.

Magnolia is good but basically a rip-off of Short Cuts by Robert Altman. I highly recommend Short Cuts if you haven't seen it, it's my favorite Altman film. Sounds like I'd like Little Children, might give that one a try.

Congrats to The Hurt Locker for all those wins! A quality movie but probably wouldn't have won in any other previous year. I was thinking Avatar would dominate. I have yet to see Avatar actually but I'm pretty sure it's still playing in most theaters. Moon was my personal favorite picture of 2009 and it didn't get nominated for shit.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Alice in Wonderland IMAX 3D

I didn't think it was a good movie, poor story, the acting wasn't overly well executed.  I did enjoy the Cheshiar Cat and the Red and White Queens. Its my first IMAX 3D experience, and that was pretty awesome, although I was more impressed with the scenes that weren't in wonderland, when the whole scene was real and not CGI.  anyway, its an okay movie, sort of impressive visuals, but I wont be rushing to the theater any time soon to see it again.

Yustin and AMC - you both owe it to yourselves to try and see Avatar in 3D if you still can. I think it would still translate well if you have a nice TV and surround sound, but it still wont be the same as the theater. If theres any movie to see in theaters, its that one.

...I wasnt surprised Hurt Locker won as many awards as it did (although I still need to see it) since it was a weak year overall and is the type of movie the academy can favor at times, but I was surprised that Bigelow won best director and it won best movie. Popular conception was Avatar would win best flick and Bigelow director, although I figured it would be the opposite as I didnt really see them giving Avatar best film just because it isnt the type of movie that wins that award. That said, I didnt expect Avatar/Cameron to get shut out on both of those like they did. I bet Cameron is seething.
Also:
-Was it just me, or was the audience laughing when Forest Whitaker was talking about Sandra Bullock but in a serious way?  :-? ;D
-Concerning this ^, I like how they have other actors that have worked with the nominated actors talk about their experience(s) working with them
-I know it was like Jordan on an 8 foot hoop, but Im glad Christoph Waltz won best supporting actor. Dude stole every single scene he was in. I cant remember the last supporting performance Ive seen that was this good.

I agree, go see Avatar if you can.

I leaned over to my friend after Inglorious Basterds and told him Waltz was going to win the Oscar. I'm no film expert, but you could NOT deny that performance.

I saw Alice In Wonderland yesterday. It was ok. Not bad, not great.
Because we're all in this together...

Man, this looks better than the first one I think  :o  8-)

I know it was over money and I like Terrence Howard a lot, but Im glad to see Cheadle replaced him. Also a big Sam Rockwell fan

I never even saw the original (and I probably laugh at the efx at this point), but if anything, that looks like a sweet IMAX 3D experience.

I wasn't aware of this usage of @, which to Canadians (and we use Victorian English) like Amercs means "at". I want to see this film @ a theatre near where I live.

Like Jaimoe said, saw Crazy Heart 'at' the weekend.

QuoteLike Jaimoe said, saw Crazy Heart 'at' the weekend.

Im still confused if @ actually means 'at' then

Saying you saw a movie "at the weekend" doesnt make sense in American speak. 'At' would be like how Jaimoe used it in terms of where you saw it, not when you saw it. Maybe its a Brit slang or something?

Then again, I was totally wrong in the "A or An Historic" thread with my grammar as well.  ;D
