QuoteThe Social Network This movie surprised me. I know there are a lot of complaints about its accuracy and sour portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg, but I don't think it was mean to be seen only as a bio-pic. If anything, it's fascinating to watch how this anti-social, awkward, completely aloof guy created a "social network" for people to connect. It also comments on the changing ways people interact with each other. I enjoyed the quick dialogue and how the filmmakers were able to write a compelling story about a kid who wrote a computer program.

I just saw this too.    Great acting, I thought.    I bring a lot of personal baggage that makes me too close to be objective, but it was certainly entertaining.   I couldn't believe two hours had gone by when it ended!

That's what I thought! Fast film...but in a good way.

I've been meaning to catch this too. I want to go thursday but not sure since the Pens season opener is the same night.
I don't know how I feel about Fincher remaking The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Pretty good movie. Probably the most interesting I've seen in awhile.
The time is near, to come forward with whatever killed your spark.

I still havent see the original, but Fincher remaking it is a good thing IMO. Them remaking it at all probably isnt a good thing.

I'm just sick of all these remakes, but at least he's doing it. I've only seen the The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, there are two more films part of a trilogy. I believe Fincher is remaking all three. I thought the first one was great, I recommend it Headdy.

No I haven't, but maybe I will sometime. I guess they made the other two movies for television because they didn't think the first one would be successful, what a bad decision that was. If Fincher dose the whole trilogy it could be better as a whole, but I don't think they could top the first one.

You Don't Know Jack - 8.5/10 - even growing up when this was happening I never really understood jack kavorcians(sp?) "vision" but Pacino fucking nailed him.  It was bizarre how believable Al was.  John Goodman was great and so was the rest of the cast.

It's crazy that the court house it all takes place at is literally 10minutes from my house, maybe less.  the 1200 building.  I've gotten called for jury duty there.  All the cities and places they named I knew.  the story was seriously compelling.  a bit long but still definitely worth checkin out.  never knew about his protests in jail and shit.  It's crazy the jail he was in is the jail I would get sent to if I ever got caught with herb on me.  fucking oakland county police suck cock.  Jeff Fieger's house, one of them is just down the street from me.  I could walk there.  check that shit out.

Altitude 4/10 - kinda lame, figured out what was going on before it was half way over.

Monsters 4/10 - had potential but for alien monsters they weren't scary at all.  the ending fucking sucked too.

Dead Cert 5/10 - I liked some of the cast but the movie was stupid.

saw the original.. and i must say the scene where chick takes off her shirt and exposes her pit hair had to be the biggest boner killer EVER, especially since i had the hots for her kinda.

Social Network 7/10 - when I first saw the previews it really wasn't appealing to me.  fincher did an awesome job directing this.  the way it was shot and the overall flow and pace of the movie worked really well.  pretty insane how facebook was created and how the dbag from napster got a piece of it.  timberlake sounded kinda like a girl when he talked but he played his part well.  the dude who was in zombieland and played zuckerburg was pretty damn good.  the dialogue was great and it was solid.  the characters are all douchebags but it's a good movie I'd say.

Paranormal Activity 2 - 3/10 - horrible acting.  boring as fuck.  glad I didn't pay to see this.  don't waste your time with this one if you can help it.

In the past few weeks I've seen these, instead of making a post every couple days I'll post them all at once.

8 1/2 - I watch a lot of subtitled films, but the subtitles really seemed to go by a lot faster than most. Maybe I was a little sleepy too, but that made me lose interest a bit.

The Union: The Business Behind Getting High - Essential Viewing.

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done - I expected more out of a Herzog/Lynch collaboration. Seems like they made shit up along the way.

Angel Heart - As I mentioned in the horror thread, this was a recent viewing. Unique blend of film noir and supernatural thriller. Seems like an overlooked movie, never hear anyone mention it. There's some cheesy special effects at the end that make it a slightly flawed film but I still liked it a lot.

Happiness - I don't really know what to say about this one. It was good but not for everyone if you're offended easily.

RED - Pretty standard action/comedy. Not bad but nothing special. I admit that MLP (and a solid cast in general) was what caught my attention in wanting to see this.

Winter's Bone - Good story and great acting. Don't be surprised if John Hawkes gets Best Supporting Actor Oscar buzz and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress.

Y tu mama tambien - Well made, but not really my cup o' tea.

I'll probably be seeing The Social Network soon.

The American - 3/10 - boring. barely any dialogue.  a fair amount of naked chicks.  Clooney was okay I guess.  never understood why people consider him such a good actor.  he's okay, but he's always george clooney to me.  never can shake that ER version of him out of my head.

Scott Pilgrim, best nerd film ever. Something totally new a mixture of an old jump and run nintendo game and a movie. Well done and great actors.

RED - Helen Mirren behind a machine gun, John Malkovish plays a freaked out ex CIA agent and Bruce Willis is cool again....need I to say more :)

e_wind

Hereafter- 3/10. Just boring and didn't really go anywhere

Jackass 3D - based purely on entertainment it's like 9/10.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

agree with you guys who saw RED, it was solid.  John is one of my favorite actors tho.  it's like truth said, standard but good.

I must say I thought Scott Pilgram was way too fucking long and pandered to indie kids.  it was like I was trapped in a hipsters brain.  some of the fight scenes had cool shots but after a while  I really stopped giving a fuck whether or not the chick and him would get together or not.   it was one of those "rap it the fuck up already" things.

Scott Pilgrim is one of my favourite movies of 2010 and it has little to do with it being blatantly based in Toronto nor its geek hipness; the film actually throws back to the late '80s to early '90s more than young "hipsters", so I guess old hipsters is more accurate. I love the film's bold imagination and style (Edgar Wright's 2nd best film; I didn't care for Hot Fuzz). I do think it ran a bit too long (one or two less villians would have been better), but overall, there's few films today not produced by Stephen Chow that can pull off over-the-top action/fantasy like this one did. I love the Beck-heavy soundtrack too.

that's impressive its only the guys 2nd movie.  I thought the video game stuff was cool but after awhile.. I don't know, that movie is totally for indie kids.   they even dressed like wanna be art students.  blah.  beck is the man tho.

watched "my son, my son, what have ye done"  last night and thought it was pretty good.  herzog always finds the weirdest stories to tell.   he finds poetry in people's madness time and time again.  so lynch just produced it?  couldn't really tell, it felt like herzog 100percent of the way.  the classic long takes he does are fun.  there was a certain rawness to the overall visual part of it too.  one scene the camera even gets bumped but they use it.  herzog/lynch are weirdos and I love them for it.

Wright was also the director for the great Simon Pegg series, Spaced (he also acted in the show), and he also directed Shaun of the Dead. He's a co-writer on the new Tintin big-budget adapatation (Peter Jackson, Spielberg). Wright also co-writes most of his films, including Hot Fuzz, Pilgrim and Shaun of the Dead.

that's cool, I always thought that simon pegg guy directed shaun of the dead and hot fuzz for some reason.  interesting, very interesting.
