Let Me In 4.25 / 5

Pretty damn good! I feared for all vampire related material since the inception of the Twilight series, but this movie nailed it. It's a remake of a Swedish film a few years ago. I decided to give it a go after reading it was one of Stephen King's favorite films of 2010. Good character development & interesting storyline. Very good special effects & it is quite bloody at times. I never would have thought I would appreciate a vampire flick for it's dramatic elements, but i sure as hell did with this one. i highly recommend it

You should have watched the original film, Let The Right One In, first. It's superior (more bleak and brooding, with winter in late '70s Sweden acting as a co-star), but both are excellent.

Another recent vampire film worth seeing out is Thirst. It was directed by Chan-wook Park, the mega-talented creator of the Korean Vengeance trilogy: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

Another serious vampire film worth searching for is Cronos, written and directed by the great Guillermo del Toro (The Devil's Backbone, Hellboy, Mimic, Pan's Labyrinth). Cronos co-stars Ron Fucking Perlman!!

Thank you for the suggestions! I tried to watch the original (Let The Right One In) via streaming netflix on my PS3, but it was cutting the subtitles off. Made for difficult viewing.

I thought I had seen all of Mr. del Toro's films but I haven't seen Cronos yet. I'll have to hunt that down.

I've also heard good things of Chan-wook Park so I guess I'll have to queue up his films on Netflix. Cheers!

I second Jaimoe's suggestions, Oldboy, Let The Right One In, and Thirst are my favorites of those. Cronos recently got rereleased on Criterion and should be available on Netflix, or to buy at a Barnes & Noble. Cronos is good for being Del Toros' first film but it definitely has it's flaws. I haven't seen Let Me In yet but I've heard mostly positive things.

The Green Hornet - 3.5/10 - got bored and stopped watching it, then watched the end later hoping it would suck less.  This movie made me get sort of sick of Seth Rogan.  he's in too much shit.

Holy SHIT this movie was wretched. Seth Rogan is terrible. It's a shame, because Christoph Waltz is amazing and his talent was wasted on such a bad movie.

Do you think Rogen is always terrible, or was he just terrible in this?  I dont find him off the charts hilarious, but I think he's consistently funny. IMO he's an underrated comedic actor, after looking at the comedies he's in where he's got a decent size role or the lead, I liked all of them, and some were great. I could see why he wouldnt work for this, but I could also see him being bad in Funny People but thought he pulled off that character in good form.

I generally don't really like superhero movies /comic book adaptations. I am looking forward to Thor mainly because of the cast and director. I like adaptations more grounded in reality such as Ghost World and American Splendor - I also liked the last two Batman films.

I think Ryan Reynolds is a burgeoning good to great actor. He's leaving his smartass/Chevy Chase Jr. persona behind. I'm not saying his upcoming Green Lantern will be good, but Buried proved he has more serious acting chops in him.

I generally dont love superhero movies, mostly as a function of how theyre made, executed, and the characters, but I usually like them if theyre any good. Now the Nolan Batmans differed in all those areas, and theyre just fantastic films, superhero or not.

I agree with you on Reynolds as well. I think he'll always have a touch of that wry, sarcastic humor in almost any role, but when it takes the backseat to his acting/charater - like in Buried - you can tell he's a solid actor (plus if you can make a movie where youre in a box suspenseful for 90 minutes straight, you pretty much have to be a good actor). You could see it to a degree in Adventureland as well, which is 1 of the best dramedies of the last few years IMO.

Yeah, looks like 1 of the more promising movies of March, along with Adjustment Bureau (which Ive already heard good things about) and Paul (which looks meh but I'll trust itll be good since Mottola directed it and Simon Pegg & Nick Frost decided to do the movie)

I couldnt decide which post to reply to, but I seem to be 1 of the few people who didnt like Oldboy all that much. Cool action and all, but that was about it for me.

Don't know what you think of movie reviews in general, or Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) in particular, but he gives The Adjustment Bureau 1.5 stars.  "Freely and feebly adapted" from a 1954 short story by Phillip K. Dick, it "misses by a mile", "dissolves into silliness", and is rendered "preposterous" despite heroic efforts by (Matt) Damon and (Emily) Blunt.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I dont really listen to/look at critics reviews all that much, but I do check out RT scores since its taking a bunch of critics/journalists into account (Adjustment Bureau has a 69% as I look now). In this case, it was just a couple people in another movie thread that saw it and said it was quite good. I'll trust more people's opinions in here than most critics.

I saw Hall Pass with Owen Wilson friday nite.   Without giving any of the movie away I thought it had some really funny but VERY crude scenes.  I heard a lot of gasps from the women in the audience.  I would have to say if you liked the Hangover you would like this movie IMO.

Nice. It looks like the best Farrelly Bros flick since Me, Myself, & Irene (which isnt exactly saying much seeing what theyve made since)

In fact, when I saw Let The Right One In at a great indie theatre in Toronto two years ago and it became one of my favourites of the year.

I'd watch the Vengeance films in order, but it doesn't matter too much. BTW, Park uses many of the Vengeance actors in most of his films. Thirst's star is Kang-ho Song, who was also in the first Vengeance film and another of Park's great films, Joint Security Area. Song is also the star of the Korean monster movie, The Host, which had the biggest budget in Korean history. I highly  recommend it. He's also in the crazy, wild Korean modern western, The Good, the Bad and The Weird. I haven't seen the latter, but I must remedy this immediately. The reviews are good to great.

I could see Rogen as a "superhero" in a movie like Kick-Ass or Defendor, but if they tried to make him a serious superhero that everyone loves, definitely would be hard to believe.

I disagree. Havent seen this Green Hornet yet, but like I said, I enjoyed all his other movies. Since Black got big, his only watchable movies have been School of Rock and Be Kind Rewind (and King Kong but he nearly ruins that one).
