Saw Cabin In The Woods on Saturday with my oldest and dearest friend and her husband. All 3 of us laughed our asses off. I really am not a horror fan and I do not necessarily view this as a horror movie per say. It was deftly written, funny, and pretty creative IMO.

Go see Lawless. I may go watch it a second time just because it's that good. I also have to put money aside for the release of Looper and Frankenweenie

Moonrise Kingdom, very enjoyable overall if you like Mr. Anderson's work.

Caught this at a bargain theater last night.  Agree with your assessment.  Clever, great cast, smart, funny, and pretty sick.  Suprise cameo at the end and a happy ending.

cabin in the woods - dug it. fun movie

Chernobyl Diaries - pretty dumb

V/H/S - POV horror, very amateur/indie-ish.  it could have been college kids who made it.  like 5 or 6 horror movies in one.  kinda okay.

Safe - Jason Statham is the man.  ching chong ying yong.

prometheus - watched it again and was kinda bored.

the dinosaur project - POV indie shit yet again, I sorta liked it tho because I love me some dinos.

Just saw a movie on Netflix called Bellflower.  Had never heard of it, but looked intersting.  Wow, it was really good.  The lead actor also directed, and he made the movie for under 20k.  So I usually read reviews before seeing a movie, don't like wasting my time and I'm a bit of a movie snob, but I watched this one cold.  Well, it got pretty good reviews as well.

It's pretty dark and heavy, but that's my thing, if it's yours, I recommend it.

The only thing I enjoyed out of that Hipster flick was the awesome Flamethrower, other than that I was pretty disappointed with it in general.  The plot line was okay, but there was a lot left out like how do you guys have money for all these things etc that never really get hashed out that bothered me.  With that said it is a pretty good flick if it was produced for under 20k as that is a total shoestring budget for a full length film.

Hmmm..., well I guess everyone has different taste.  Not saying it was great, but the camera work was interesting and thematically I thought it had something to say.  But to each his own...

On that note, enjoying different things, I just watched Cabin In The Woods.  I did check the reviews on this first, and they were almost entirely positive.  So, since everyone here was raving about it, I thought I'd give it a try.  Big mistake.  I knew it wasn't my type of movie going in (decent size budget, horror, mass market) and was willing to cut some slack, but I was pretty disappointed I spent an hour and a half on it.  I 'get it', I suppose, but didn't really care.  I thought Scream did it better years ago, and I don't really go in for the 'fantasy' as real aspect.  Anyway, I would say Bellflower was at least twice as good, but everyone's got an opinion...

Red Lights - pretty great acting from the scarcrow in this one.  it was awesome until the last 3 or 4minutes then it just totally went off the deep end.  a shame it had potential.  still probably worth watching for fun.  nice, small cast.

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

Sound Of My Voice - it was pretty lame.  the idea was cool, but the overall substance and way it was done was mucho gayo.   it makes me want to write a movie about time travel.

Saw The Master yesterday.
I'm a huge fan of PTA and really thought I was going to loooooooooove this move.  Unfortunately, I did not.  I just liked it.

The movie is beautiful.  Visually its a real stunner.
The acting is fantastic.  Joaquin Phoenix and PSH are amazing.  Amy Adams is strong as well.
Where the film lost me was the plot.  I just really felt like the characters didn't go anywhere (as far as their development).  Who they are in the beginning is who they are in the end (perhaps that was the point, and it was just lost on me).
I'm ok with movies that don't have a traditional "plot/story," but rather follow a period of time in people's lives (like PTA's last movie TWBB), however I really thought that the plot was really lacking.
Perhaps I'm wrong and just not sophisticated enough to appreciate the plot/story.

I did enjoy everything else about the movie though, and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone, and let them make their own opinions.

I saw Looper. It was really good

I hear ya. Saw it last night and I chose early not to try and "understand" anything but just enjoy it and keep in touch with what I was feeling. Just to see JP writhe on the big screen was worth it and I could probably watch PSH eat a head of lettuce and enjoy.

And yes, visually it was stunning and there are certain scenes that are stuck (in a good way) in my head :

the expendables 2 - wow.  this reminded me of the movies my friends and i would make when we were in middle school.  a lot of it I truly think they just went with the first take.  hilariously bad.  the ending is the end of macgruber but serious pretty much.  some decent stuff during the first hour but I had to shut it off before it was over.  just too damn horrible.

the positives, you get to weigh the celeb action heroes side by side now that they're old.  bruce willis dominates this one tho.  jason statham is just as good. it blows tho.  watch it once for a laugh.

anybody see Looper yet?  movie is fucking great.  I'm going to be bold and say it's the best time travel film made to date, in the sense, that it covered the paradox, etc.   it was complete.  even more so than back to the future, which it paid homage to in ways.

it had a great small cast, with a tight ass cameo from one of best actors from deadwood.

I don't believe movies are generally worth 8-10bucks+ to see at the theater but this one, I don't know there's something special about it.  it's way above the level of something like primer.  it's an action popcorn intellectual fun flick.  jeff daniels, whom I love, did decent but was probably least favorite part.   and that is all I can tell.  I will leave the experience up to you and your 10dollars.  go see this shit if you want to have some fun.

the more I think about it the more beautiful it is.  just a great film.  a peaceful film really at the core when you strip away the fact that it's a mob movie. word.  mark being positive. one.

I'd like to see Looper sometime. Have you seen Timecrimes? I hated Primer, thought Timecrimes was much better.

I'll check that out.  looper was the balls.

The Last Temptation of Christ

Decent flick, nothing mind blowing, but it does have Dafoe.  Interesting depiction none the less.

This doesn't come out until the end of the month, but I just saw the first trailer for it yesterday.  Looks pretty damn good:
