This doesn't come out until the end of the month, but I just saw the first trailer for it yesterday.  Looks pretty damn good:

Cloud Atlas Extended Trailer #1 (2012) - Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Wachowski Movie HD

It preimered at tiff (Toronto International Film Festival) in early September. The buzz wasn't great; in a nutshell, reports were that it is flawed, but cool to look at with Hanks miscast and Berry out of her league.

The Last Temptation of Christ

Decent flick, nothing mind blowing, but it does have Dafoe.  Interesting depiction none the less.

I saw that when I was a lot younger but loved it when I watched it.  dafoe is a bad ass.  he gets a ton of shit in movie conversations but the dude has made a shitload of movies.  there are some premo gems with that dude for sure.

i think how martin made jesus more of a man in that movie.  boning his wife and shit.  the snake bullshit in the desert.

what is it about that biblical theme that's so appeal, it's hard not to love.  maybe it's just the raw good vs raw evil thing?  dug that movie tho.  not something I'd watch a million times but something that could be interesting over time.

anybody see Looper yet?  movie is fucking great.  I'm going to be bold and say it's the best time travel film made to date, in the sense, that it covered the paradox, etc.   it was complete.  even more so than back to the future, which it paid homage to in ways.

it had a great small cast, with a tight ass cameo from one of best actors from deadwood.

I don't believe movies are generally worth 8-10bucks+ to see at the theater but this one, I don't know there's something special about it.  it's way above the level of something like primer.  it's an action popcorn intellectual fun flick.  jeff daniels, whom I love, did decent but was probably least favorite part.   and that is all I can tell.  I will leave the experience up to you and your 10dollars.  go see this shit if you want to have some fun.

the more I think about it the more beautiful it is.  just a great film.  a peaceful film really at the core when you strip away the fact that it's a mob movie. word.  mark being positive. one.

just saw it yesterday. its fucking awesome. My movie of 2012
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Just watched a movie on Netflix called Oslo August 31st, I thought it was amazing.  The Scandinavians are really making some great movies if you don't mind subtitles (or happen to speak Swedish, Norwegian, etc.), real movies, about real people and real life.  Which is generally pretty heavy.  If you've ever had a problem with drugs or know someone who has, this movie is on point.  Plus, as a general rule, Scandinavian women are pretty hot, so all the bit players and extras are gorgeous, which makes the viewing even better.  But really, I thought it was pretty top notch movie.

safety not guarenteed - I enjoy this a lot.  the first 10were rough then I sorta fell into it.  I love the chick from parks and rec.  would love to make out with her.  clever, funny, romantic.  very indie tho.  less hipster than a michael cera movie tho.  would recommend.

Saw two movies recently

1. Frankenweenie:  I wanted to see Argo, but it was sold out, and the only other movie playing at a similar time was this movie.  I do like Tim Burton's animated work, and I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuge fan of the Nightmare Before Christmas.  Frankenweenie was pretty decent.  Saw it in IMAX and in 3D.  It was somewhat "dark" for a "kids" movie, and really nothing spectacular (or even close to nightmare before christmas) but it was entertaining.  There would be no great loss if you never saw it or waited until it came out on DVD/BlueRay

2. Samsara:  I had been looking forward to this film, as I am a huge fan of Baraka.  It was playing at a local art theater, so I was excited to get the opportunity to actually see it in a theater.  The film, like the director's previous works, have no narrative or a plot.  The filmmaker presents visually stunning images, combined with music, and links them all together for the viewer to watch and draw their own impressions and conclusions about life, the world, how we interact with each other and nature, etc.
Its a really neat experience to watch a movie like this with friends, and then go out to eat and talk about your thoughts afterwards.  If its playing in your area, I suggest/recommend going out to see it on the big screen.

saw that amazing spiderman movie.  so horrible.  I couldn't make it thru it.  shut it off with an hour left.  borderline offensive.

the campaign - funny. end is kinda slow tho.

Seven Psychopaths - It was kind of like a mix of a Charlie Kauffman and a Tarantino script, but not in a good way. The writer kind of wrote himself into it as the leader character, where he's writing the script for the movie in the movie alla Adaptation. It was decent I guess, definitely not as good as Martin McDonagh's other movie In Bruges. It was cool seeing Tom Waits as usual.

Headhunters - Awesome Swedish thriller about an art thief who gets caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Highly recommend it, especially if your into other Swedish movies.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Finally got around to watching "The Falcon and the Snowman", good flick, even if a little dated at this point.  Not really a fan of Sean Penn in this flick, just seems like a ho hum performance as I tend to get with his acting overall, other than Spicoli of course.

The Beaver. Pure disaster. Should have been XXX.

We just got back from Argo and loved it.  That Afflek can direct!

Only one continuity problem: no one bleached their teeth in the 70s!  And everyone smoked, so those damned teeth need to get dirtied up a little. Afflek's teeth can be seen from across the street, in the dark, from behind a curtain.

And, as a Canadian, it was neat seeing footage of Flora MacDonald and having Trudeau, Pearson and Dieffenbacher name-checked.
Babe, let's get one thing clear, there's much more stardust when you're near.

I really liked it too. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if they made it. I'm impressed with Affleck's directorial skills as well.

Last night, my wife and I lost two hours of our lives watching (and, at times, nodding off during) Cowboys & Aliens. It was given 2 stars in the listings, but we figured a 2-star movie directed by Favreau starring Danuel Craig and Harrison Ford might still be fun. We were mistaken.

Agreed. Really well done. Had high expectations due to early critical acclaim and it didn't disappoint.  Intense right from the get go and doesn't let up.  Unbelievable story.  PS. You're right on about the teeth.
Give me a butt load of reverb on this one - just pile it on.

yeah I couldn't make it to the end either.  shit was brutal.  you'd figure the lasers would make it cool.

Looper was pretty good, but 3D Frankenweenie is where it's at

Just saw Sinister, and it was disappointing.  I'm a big horror movie fan and was looking forward to it as it seemed the reviews were not as terrible as they are for most horror movies.

It has some very disturbing images and some good scares, but it's not a very good movie and the story is way too implausible to really hold it together.

Agreed with what was said here about Looper, amazing.  That and Cabin in the Woods have been my favorite movies this year.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

Just saw The Cabin in the Woods, pretty decent flick overall, nothing really terrifying or anything, but enjoyable.

Just saw Safety Not Guaranteed, it was cute, worth watching if you like quirky heartwarming indie movies.  Wouldn't say it lived up to its RT rating, but still good (didn't think Cabin In The Woods lived up to its RT rating either though, should have been like a 45% maybe).

Looking forward to seeing Looper, big sci-fi fan and generally enjoy J.Gordon-Levitt's work.

9.79, the great ESPN documentary about the Ben Johnson steroid scandal. I lived through this disgrace and this doc is fair and illuminating. All fans of sports of any kind should check this out. Ben comes off as a nice guy as does Calvin Smith. No surprise that Carl Lewis is still a fucker hypocrite creep.
