We saw The Impossible over the weekend.

Very powerful and emotional story. And incredible effects to recreate that disaster.
I think it's the best movie I saw all year, and I saw a lot. I can't imagine why it is not nominated for best picture.

The children in the movie were incredible as well.

Lincoln, tonight and it was amazing, i loved almost every second.
Can you keep it simple? Can you let the snare crack? Can you let it move without holding back?

We took the boys out to see The Hobbit and really enjoyed ourselves. It was gorgeous to look at and was a fun ride. There is a tonal skewing - as compared to LOTR - toward the preteen boy crowd but I'm cool with that.
I thought it was awesome. I really love The Lord of the Rings (both the books and movies) as well. I've seen it twice now, I think I'm just gonna keep going until the cinema stops showing it.
How loud can silence get?

I just watched Winters Bone.  It was interesting.

50/50 and Looper

I enjoyed them both, and Seth Rogen didn't bug me for a change, which is a testament to the quality of 50/50. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a hell of an actor.

Agreed.  Have you seen The Lookout?  Plus, it has One Big Holiday...

Nope. Is it good, other than the soundtrack?

It was a while ago, but I believe I did like it, and was impressed with JGL.  I also enjoyed Looper.

Silver Linings Playbook.  Both leads are outstanding and Bobby D. shines, as well.  Poignant, sensitive, humorous, thoughtful, and happening all around us.  Now more than ever does this society need to talk about and address mental disorders.
Give me a butt load of reverb on this one - just pile it on.

Mama: A great little horror film/ghost story. Good acting, locales (shot mostly in Southern Ontario and Quebec) and a movie with heart and a soul, not unlike other Guillermo del Toro horror pictures The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. By no means is Mama big-budget, but it is well-written and tells a heartbreaking and intriguing story even if you aren't easily frightened.

Good soundtrack too:  Stevie Wonder, Dead Weather, Alambama Shakes, Led Zeppelin, White Stripes, Alt-J, Bob Dylan/Johnny Cash doing Girl From North Country

Silver Linings Playbook was a good movie, not perfect but really good, and the music was amazing.

I indulged my intellectual side last night and went to see Django Unchained.  It's right up there with Tarantino's best.  Given the language and violence, probably not one to take your maiden aunt to this weekend.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

Agreed with the posters above about silver linings playbook. Went in thinking it was just a chick flick love story and came out totally surprised. Great acting! Also Jennifer Lawrence was a total smoke show,

Good solid flick overall, liked the randomness of some of the humor in the film.  It did remind me a little bit of Cabin in the Woods, but I preferred this to that overall.

I just watched John Dies at the End, and i was thoroughly entertained.  It was and is a sci-fi horror comedy with twin peaks like weirdness.  Low budget film but well made and very fun.  It's based off of the book by David Wong who is a writer for cracked.  I loved the movie and hope to read the book in my free time.  I highly suggest to anyone who finds sce-fi horror comedy to be entertaining and if you like twin peaks and enjoy wacky humor.

Went to see Central Park Five this weekend. A documentary about a group of 5 teenagers who were wrongfully accused of raping and attacking a female jogger in Central Park. Very disturbing police behavior that got these innocent kids convicted, and sad to see the ridiculous racism that existed in NYC in 1989!! Really good movie though, highly recommend!

I also watched Crossfire Hurricane, about The Rolling Stones, this weekend at home. Also great!

Saw "Zero Dark Thirty" the other night. Really loved it. Kathryn Bigelow can really make those dramatic-suspense moments all through-out the movie. Like she did on "The Hurt Locker". I think it's a big shame that she and Ben Affleck didn't get nominations for directing at the oscars.

It's on my radar. I'm a fan of the film's director, Don Coscarelli (Phantam, Bubba Ho-Tep).

Went to see "Lincoln" yesterday. It wasn't a hit, only ok for me, spielberg is not exciting like he used to. But still it was an important lesson of history, not just for the USA...
