Went to see "Lincoln" yesterday. It wasn't a hit, only ok for me, spielberg is not exciting like he used to. But still it was an important lesson of history, not just for the USA...

Yes, moreso a history lesson compared to the revisionist event that is Argo.

Just watched Lars and the Real Girl. Not a bad movie, but I wish there was a little more to it towards the end.

This isn't a new movie but finally got around to seeing the documentary How To Die In Oregon - about the Death with Dignity law.  Great film and an important subject, but definitely hard to watch.

"Seven Psychopaths" finally arrive here, so went last night. Pretty cool, love it lot more than "Bruge". Sam Rockwell is so great, all of the cast. Kinda unfounded(?) in some parts, but lots of fun and even smart. Love it.

I really like Seven Psychopaths.  But I thought In Bruges was a better movie all together.  Although Christopher Walken and Woody Harrelson were amazing as always.  My favorite Harrelson role though is in Zombieland, i get that the zombie fad is getting annoying but i still love them.  And Walken is always amazing.
Can you keep it simple? Can you let the snare crack? Can you let it move without holding back?

LOVE Zombieland! I just watched it again two weeks ago, after I saw "Gangster Squad" (same director). Still awesome.

once you make the perfect movie everything else pales

Watch Flight last weekend... Really liked the artistic approach to the airstrip in the first 5 minutes... Oscar worthy if you ask me!

Finally got around to watching Skyfall since it recently came out, not a well made Bond movie thats for sure, but was at least no worse than your typical shoot em up flick.  Was hoping for a little more have Javier (sp) as the villian.  I keep on looking for a reason to go to the movies, but there doesn't seem like there is anything too worth while out currently.  Really want to see The Gatekeepers, but it hasn't made its way to DC yet.

Watched a good one and a bad one over the weekend...

Good one - Fat Kid Rules The World.... Typical coming of age movie where two teenagers use each other for their own reasons and the promise of a punk band is the driving force.  Decent for an independent film that was looking for financing on kickstarter.com.

Bad One - Taken 2... I understand it's an action movie, but make some of the story believable... for instance his daughter can't pass her drivers license test in the US but all of a sudden is an expert driver in Istanbul Turkey driving manual speed as she's chased by the cops and bad guys.  C'mon Man!!  And the worst was Liam Neeson gave his stiffest performance yet....

We rented "Beasts of the Southern Wild" over the weekend.
it was wonderful!

I recently watched The Art of Rap and Ice-T could possibly be the worst director of all-time.

I also watched The Raven which wasn't bad, but it needed more action. I watched Taken 2 as well which also wasn't too bad.

manonthemoon

Just watched the Gatekeepers, a great documentary and by far the best movie I have seen in quite a while.  Not one-sided at all and well thoughtout which you hardly ever find in documentaries as someone is usually has an agenda.

I watched The Master last weekend... snooze fest... With all the critical acclaim for Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman I expected something enjoyable... maybe it was just too smart of a movie for my simple little mind.

Does anybody watch movies??

I seen The Man From Earth which was pretty cool. The trailer looks like crap and I never would've given it a chance had it not been recommended. Also, I seen Act of Valor which was kinda cool for action, but not much else. Prometheus was a very enjoyable movie. I'm not sure why some folks didn't like it.

Looking forward to Evil Dead though  The original is great and the remake should be even better

cue Jaimoe for Evil Dead discussion! I'm actually looking forward to seeing ED as I've read they don't try to portray the same story. What I understand is that it is an entirely new direction on the original. I'm interested.

The early buzz is positive too from respected geek sites and mainstream critics. Groovy!

The really cool thing is how the people behind the original are also doing the remake. The thing that kind of hurt the original was the low budget that reduced some of the horror. Yes! As stated that early reviews indicate, this should be a good one.

I respectively beg to differ regarding your low budget comment. When the original came out, especially on video, it was revered and was considered very scary for its time; in fact, it was ahead of its time. It's amazing that it even made it to production.

Part of the appeal of the Evil Dead was the small budget because it forced Raimi to be more creative and innovative along with how well it inevitably looked on home video (it sort of has a "found home video" feel) . Sure, the acting is amateur, but when it was finally released, there was nothing like the Evil Dead in the late '70s to early '80s. I vividly remember being horrified watching the original back in 1984 at my friend's house.  I urge any fans of the original series, low budget filmmaking and the great Bruce Campbell to go out and get Bruce's autobiography, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor. It's a great read and the chapters on the Evil Dead movies are fascinating. Getting the first movie financed was very difficult and Raimi, Tapert and Campbell basically lucked out getting one of the Cohen brothers to help edit the original. Anyway, the original movie became one of the first movies to become hugely popular via home video; it was of a word-of-mouth discovery for many while others were lured in by the awesome box-cover art (the woman reaching out from the ground) and the Stephen King blurb.

Ah I meant that the low budget hurt the horror for myself rather than the movie as I just seen it for the first time in 2013, but it's an awesome movie. I was really getting into it until I seen the moon broadcasted onto a projector screen in the woods and the foam/plastic doll popping out of the basement trap door when he's trying to shove the girl back in.

I haven't seen the other two yet, but I'm really hoping to go see the new one this weekend.
