I'm sitting here ripping my Pete & Pete DVDs to my media server and listening to the Mark Mulcahy tribute album and wondering if anyone else here is a fan of the man. A lot of his stuff reminds me of Carl's album with a more 90s/less guitary feel.

Here's the National covering "Ashamed of the Story I Told"

The National - Ashamed of the story I told

And Thom Yorke doing "All for the Best" from Mark's first band, Miracle Legion

Thom Yorke - All For The Best

Otherwise, those of you in your mid-to-late 20's probably best know him as the shaggy dude from this video:

And here's a nice live cut:

Mark Mulcahy - Cookie Jar

The tribute album is a great compilation. Mark's wife died suddenly in 2009 I think it was, and all the artists made the album without telling him, giving him all the proceeds to help out with raising his kids and bills and stuff. The album's got an incredible lineup:

Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy:

01 Thom Yorke: "All for the Best"
02 The National: "Ashamed of the Story I Told"
03 Michael Stipe: "Everything’s Coming Undone"
04 David Berkeley: "Love's the Only Thing That Shuts Me Up"
05 Dinosaur Jr.: "The Backyard"
06 Chris Harford and Mr. Ray Neal: "Micon the Icon"
07 Frank Black: "Bill Jocko"
08 Vic Chesnutt: "Little Man"
09 Unbelievable Truth: "Ciao My Shining Star"
10 Butterflies of Love: "I Have Patience"
11 Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne: "Cookie Jar"
12 Frank Turner: "The Quiet One"
13 Rocket From the Tombs: "In Pursuit of Your Happiness"
14 Ben Kweller: "Wake Up Whispering"
15 Josh Rouse: "I Woke Up in the Mayflower"
16 Autumn Defense: "Paradise"
17 Hayden: "Happy Birthday Yesterday"
18 Juliana Hatfield: "We're Not in Charleston Anymore"
19 Mercury Rev: "Sailors and Animals"
20 Elvis Perkins: "She Watches Over Me"
21 Sean Watkins: "A World Away From This One"

Love everything about this man and his music. The Pete and Pete soundtrack continues to be a frequent spin btw me and my fiancee. Love Drenched by ML. Don't have any of his solo albums (have heard some songs) any suggestions on where to start?
Oh, I will dine on honey dew And drink the Milk of Paradiseeeee

I think Fathering is the likely best start for his solo stuff.

I think the tribute album was made to help him get on his feet because a solo dad with young twins is not likely to have a lot of time to get to the studio

Huge Pete and Pete fan. I have the Polaris disc and the tribute album but I still haven't bought any Miracle Legion.  :-[

I'm a huge fan of Mark, Miracle Legion, and Polaris. I noticed that lyrics for all of Mark's efforts are really hard to find on-line, so I created a site about five years ago and spent a lot of time (and got a lot of help) adding the lyrics. If interested, or if you can help me fill in the blanks, go to http://www.poiks.net
