First European gig!  Nice find, BH!

Latitude Festival
Henham Park, near Southwold, from July 14-17

The full list of names announced so far is:

Music: The National, Paolo Nutini, Suede, Foals, Paloma Faith, Yann Tierson, Villagers, The Duke and the King, Lloyd Cole, The Waterboys, I am Kloot, Caribou, Avi Buffalo, CW Stoneking, Glasser, Bellowhead, Thea Gilmore, Esben and the Witch, Phildel, The Bees, Chapel Club, Grafitti 6, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Edwyn Collins, Bright Eyes, Everything Everything, Gold Panda, Kele, Rumer, The Vaccines, Jenny & Johnny, Hurts, The Naked and Famous, Anna Calvi, Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, Crocodiles, Trophy Wife, Tripwires OMD, Foster The People, Marques Toliver, Crystal Fighters, British Sea Power, KT Tunstall, Fight Like Apes, My Morning Jacket, and Violens.

Its custom made for Sara, but not exactly in her backyard.  You gonna do this, SBB?

The festival site is marked below orange.  Where are you on this map?  How will you get there?

Oh Mr. Yac, always such enthusiasm and organization, I love it! You have what we in Sweden call a "soul of fire" (very loose translation there). This is where I am on the map:

I'd have to take a flight from Gothenburg to Stansted airport, then train from Stansted to London, then bus from London to festival area. It would be worth it, but then again, if they do play anywhere more convenient that would be nice too. I don't have the money right now anyway, so I'll have to wait a little and perhaps they'll announce some show closer to me. Like a very smart man said, they probably won't fly to Europe for just one show. Right? Right?!
;)  :D

That isn't that far! I expect you to be there Banana!
The fact that my heart's beating,
Is all the proof you need

No not that far I guess. I just need money for all the different tickets, but not being there simply isn't an option, unless they announce a show closer, like say... London or so. But I'm more than happy with this! :D

I don't want to embarrass anyone or put Sara on the spot, but I'd gladly send $20 to help get her to Latitude!  This woman MUST hit every MMJ show she can!  She has brought so much to this forum and this fan.  She deserves the rail and dinner with the band.  She is our European ambassador!

PM me if you're in.

Happy to provide UK logistics / lodging help.  I'd have to say, though, that the Latitude festival is in the arse end of nowhere in the UK, and Gothenberg is a fair distance away.  I've got all sorts of juju going on to ensure that the Jacket play an enormous slew of Euro dates this summer...

Fair enough.  Forgive my enthusiasm, Sara.  Just want to help a deserving fan.

I think we're all a bit overeager with each announced date, when there's bound to be many more, likely more close to home for us all.

I remember telling my wife last year that I had to do the 3 shows during my April break, as I might not have another chance.  Then they showed up in Vermont, Mass., Maine, and NY in the late summer and fall.  Oops.

Have you been to a Jacket show yet?  I can't recall.

Yes, two full shows and a festival slot.  London Astoria in 06,  London Forum 08 and Hop Farm festival in 08.  I'll be going to as many Euro dates as I can get to this year (assuming we get some more).

I can more than understand wanting to get SBB to her first show!

bus from Stansted to Norwich would be best, not Stansted to London. :)

JY: Thank you so much for your kind words, know that  they mean more than money ever could  :) The reason I don't have any money right now is that I graduated in January and I won't get my first pay until next month. And I used up the emergency concert money for the two Bright Eyes shows. I didn't expect MMJ to come here so soon, but I am beside myself with joy that they are. I just hope the tickets won't be sold out by the time I get my pay, anyone know if they usually sell out fast?

MarkW: I like the sound of that juju, keep at it! I'd also like to see the band Villagers though and Bright Eyes doesn't hurt either, so... so far Latitude sounds really, really nice. Unless something more convenient shows up, logistics / lodging help would be most welcome.  :)

Oh thanks for the info! I've only ever been to London (and Manchester, but then the flight went straight there), so I just had it in my mind that we'd have to go through London, but apparently not! Hopefully that might make it cheaper, however there will be buses going from London straight to the festival area so that would be nice. I might get lost otherwise...  :-\

Hey Sara, what about a ferry to England from Gothenburg? Would it take too long and/or cost too much anyway?

They run free festival buses from Diss in Norfolk.  You'd need to get the train to London Liverpool Street, and then another back out to Diss.  It would probably be the fastest way there.

I saw that flights to Stansted were about 270 SEK on the Thursday (more on the Friday) - and pretty cheap on the way back on Monday.  The festival is pretty nice - small and friendly.  I'll be there on the Saturday to buy you beer too!

hey now!  i'm so happy for you european folk :).  had a feeling they'd HAVE to head across the pond while touring the new album.  glad to see it's official

crispy beat me to the ferry suggestion (great minds  ;)) - i know for a fact that they have ferrys from amsterdam to england, just not exactly sure what port or whatever.  but it looks to be a straight shot across the sea from amsterdam to the oranj (hee hee) "pin" on john's map, so me thinks a ferry could get ya pretty close to that festy!  whether the route from your home to amsterdam would take too long, or be too costly etc. - i do not know.  something to mull over maybe ???

BUUUUT, i'm also thinking that more euro festy dates (or maybe even some non-festy shows) will be added.  the announcements for the US dates kinda came trickling out one at a time so it may be the same for over there.  i agree - it's hard to imagine that they'd head over to europe for just 1 show.

did i say i'm so happy for you folks?  :D

Thanks for the suggestion, but the prices on the flights are quite alright, at least until people start booking their summer vacations and that should leave me a while yet. :)

Well, that's great, glad you get to go to the show! I was actually kind of wondering though, because once upon a time my buddy took a ferry from Gothenburg to England and now I can't find anything in the interweb indicating that there is still one running. Just before that we took a ferry from Helsinki to Stockholm and it had ridiculous Smorgasbord (that's what they call it, people!), and I was able to buy a huge bag of Dumle for cheap at the duty-free.

Thanks for all the help and info Mark! And oooh I like the sound of free! The buses from London would be something like 35 GBP unless I completely misread it. This is all very confusing, but I've been to London Liverpool Street, so no problems getting there. But I haven't been to Diss, is it best to buy tickets at London Liverpool Street once you get there or online?

Flights to Stansted are cheap indeed, no complaining there, usually it's even cheaper to fly to Stansted than go by train to Stockholm... crazy! I don't know if we want to stay for the whole festivals or just some of the days. We figured we will be there Saturday and maybe Friday or Sunday too depending on when BE and Villagers are playing I guess. (I've been trying to find that out, but can't seem to find any info anywhere ???)

And hooray for beer, I'll bring some Swedish snacks to go with the beer! (Can't think of any snacks that's typically Swedish though, damn it... I'll just bring Swedish pancakes! ;))

Aww, thank you so much! I really appreciate that you guys are all so supportive :) And nomnomnom Smörgåsbord and Dumle, I wonder if Dumle is typically Swedish, maybe I should bring that as a snack...  When was it that you visited the fair region of Scandinavia?
